Jewels, is there any way you could trim it down to a more manageable number? This is an excellent opportunity for spring cleaning.
  2. I've fallen in love with Charles Bukowski. I just finished Post Office, and plan on picking up a copy of Ham on Rye the next time I visit my fiancee's work.

  4. Since Celtic Minstrel is far too lazy to post the link, I'll do it. Hehe. (If it's not the one you're referring to, I don't wanna hear it.) http://www.ironycentral.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=166756
  5. Some might find this helpful. DreamHost is offering two years of free service and a domain to all existing GeoCities users. Might take some pressure off Aran. http://blog.dreamhost.com/2009/04/24/theyre-internet-history/ Oh, and I <3 the Alpha Centauri quote in your sig.
  6. I've played parties with and without special traits and the extra skills always showed up. When, I have no idea since I didn't really pay attention. Ye Olde Standby: Backup your saves and reinstall. Only thing I can think of.
  7. You're not supposed to be able to reduce skills. That's not a bug. Is your main problem fixed?
  8. Instead of annoying him, we could try melting his cold, cold heart with the warmth of our love for his games. Kind of like at the end of the The Grinch. Would that work? Or is he far too jaded and cynical now? Fah who for-aze! Dah who dor-aze! Welcome Christmas, Come this way!

I doubt it would ever happen, but perhaps some enterprising souls would take it upon themselves. Inversely proportional, I trust? The way I see it, OBoE happened because he got tired of dealing with it (plus the people nagging) and had better stuff to do. With Avernum 6 on the horizon, as well as the possibility of a whole new game, if we really put our hearts into whining, he'll do it. Of course with Ormus off doing... whatever it is he does, there's not really anyone who could do much. But I'm sure he'd pop up eventually. Quick! Email Jeff! A lot!
  10. Any chance of the trilogy ever getting open-sourced?
  11. Oh dear. Umm... bugger. Of Good & Evil maybe? Or Emulations? Possibly even Election? I just don't know!
  12. So Jeff can still make a quick buck if someone's not smart enough to look around. Plus there might be some who still prefer buying the game. Maybe they hate open-source software, want to support the company, or are more comfortable getting it directly from the developer. Who knows.
  13. I find that idea frighteningly attractive. Is there something wrong with me?
  14. Most of the people who still play BoE end up trying every scenario that comes out (if they can find the time). So I think a good portion of people will. I would.
  15. Is it really necessary to 'wrap' every single idiom in quotations? And I find myself agreeing with Eclipse. The series deserved more of a bang.
  16. BoE runs on WINE 1.1.13 with no problems. I've never attempted to play with the sound on though. It interferes with my music.
  17. Exactly my point. I just used those two as examples of what I meant by epic. I didn't know exactly when Bandit Busywork was released, but now that I do it makes more sense. I had assumed he made it as a response when anti-Jeff sentiments were running high. Well, really high.
  18. The ending dialog seemed like a deliberate snub to people who make "epic" scenarios like At the Gallows or Falling Stars. I forget exactly how it was worded, but the gist was that small, polished scenarios have a higher level of craftsmanship than ones that are huge for the sake of being huge.
  19. Thank you. May your camels spit nothing but dates.
  20. In the spirit of Festivus, could someone give me a DL link for working copies of A Small Rebellion and The Za-Khazi Run? I tried using the ones that come in Spiderweb's OBoE package, but they were unplayable. I trust that Jeff won't get his panties in a knot because of this? If I'm wrong, I apologize in advance.
  21. Is there any good reason that only Valley of Dying Things is included in Ormus's download?

After the eighth or ninth innocent you won't even notice you're doing it anymore! *thumbs up*
  23. Right now the only place to download a playable OBoE is Ormus's signature for PC and Khoth's for Mac (which I think is down anyway). There's a link to the source code on the main site, but it tells you to go the forums for anything else. So we should probably take those and put the DL links into a sticky thread. Since the 100% free version is more attractive than Spiderweb's shareware demo (why that's still up I have no idea) a lot of people are going to come looking for it and have no idea where it's at.
  24. Honestly, when was the last time you had a tough fight in BoE? Sure, you can have long and annoying fights but that just comes down to attrition, not skills. As long as you have someone with maxed Priest and a big vat of spell points you can make any party work in any fight. (And that's for hard battles, parties in easier scenarios can ease off on the priestliness.) That being said, I follow a pretty standard formula: -Slith fighter with polearms. Focus on strength, health, weapons, dexterity. ---Gets Toughness, Recuperation, Highly Alert, Good Constitution, Exceptional Strength. -Nephil Thief/Archer with bows. Focus on lockpicking, disarming, dexterity, health, weapons. ---Recuperation, Highly Alert, Good Constitution. Stuck with Woodsman and Cave Lore. (Haven't seen any non-Vogel scenarios that need them which is kinda weird.) -Human Mage. Focus on mage, spell points, mage lore, intelligence, health. ---Recuperation, Highly Alert, Good Constitution, Magically Apt. -Human Priest with maces. Focus on priest, spell points, intelligence, health, weapons. ---Recuperation, Highly Alert, Good Constitution, Magically Apt. But that's just me. I don't sit there with a calculator trying to figure out the best and most efficient way to build my game characters. If I wanted to do that I'd play Dungeons & Dragons. (128-sided dice are cool.)
