I'll just take a moment here to mourn the loss of the PCs' ability to jump off cliffs.

OK, done now.

Welcome to the boards.
While the dealer in Dharmon does neglect to give you a friendly verbal warning about that (unlike another one you'll meet later), I guess the glaring guards and the sign are considered to be enough of a hint that snooping might be a little unwise here.
Just because the law-abiding citizens of Avernum can't imagine the possibility that you might be breaking into all of their homes and storerooms for nefarious purposes--like stealing their stuff and selling it back to them--doesn't mean that criminals will be quite as trusting.

On the plus side, it's a good way to deliberately provoke a hostile reaction if you ever get around to striking a blow for law and order.
Edit: He does, in fact, warn you as soon as you enter the room.

Never found a way to get there. Maybe it's meant to be the way the squatters got in...though if so, they didn't leave that way. It's funny it never occurred to me to wonder why the sentinels wouldn't slaughter them on their way out.

If she told you about Gall, then your second dialog option with him should be "Hrramen-Drayssa sent me to speak with you." After which he talks to you.
If you're not getting that option then something is wrong. Someone here can probably come up with an SDF code for you.

Bet it wouldn't. -
Did you talk to the slith in Ft. Spire first?

Yeah, I don't know what they're talking about with the smudges, either. They seem to be everywhere. So here's what you do:
Take the middle of the three Northern paths like Soul of Wit said and go down.
Go West and exit the map zone to the SW.
Take the first North tunnel out of the map zone.
Go through the lava area and exit the map zone to the East.
Turn North at the small lava pool and go all the way to the top of the map.
You will come to a ladder on a land bridge with water on both sides. Go up.
Head East. The tunnel winds around to a ramp down. Take it.
After that, you literally can't go wrong.

You can sell them anywhere for 50c, but you only get XP for them at the portal keep. -
Head east from Almaria. He has a dwelling built into the cave wall south of the Fort Haledon ruins. If you hit the road that goes to the Great Portal you're too far south.

Thanks!
You have to approach from the east. -
It drops demon's bile and a radiant shield. For sure.

No, they are the easternmost of the row of three rooms along the southern edge of Patrick's tower, just south of Sorengard's workshop. If you had tried it before doing the quest, the lock would have been "too complicated to be picked". It unlocks afterward. -

I don't know what this line does, but it's not in my version (Mac 1.0.2). -
Well, I don't know how to edit myself 2000 vials of skribbane, but a rough test using about 400 shows a sharp drop-off in XP gain after levelling up from 39 to 40. From about 350 XP per 100 to about 125. This is with a singleton, on a Mac.
So evidently the XP reward does scale down with level, after all.

Sure you do: they sell for good money.

Nicer is to start with 7 Quick Strike.

Cavequakes.

The only difficulty that may arise is if your food-bearer happens to get killed. That food will no longer be available to you, and you may see a few warnings about hunger affecting your ability to fight. But it's usually pretty easy to get back to a town and Return Life scrolls are not particularly scarce, so it's not that big a deal.

There's a thread around here somewhere with a bunch of the ending texts, if you want to know how things turn out.
My personal feeling is that Gladwell is evil, and so are his quests. The dragon doesn't bother me, as long as people have the freedom to join him or not. So I did the two of his quests that most lined up with the interests of Avernum: the Scourge, and the Darkside Loyalists. Apparently if you do more than two, he will take over unless you kill him. Some people do them all and then bump him off, which is also an option with Gladwell, of course.
The rewards are nice, too, but by no means necessary to complete the game.

Unlockable, yes, I think so. Jeff doesn't seem to design rooms not to be seen.
Truly inaccessible areas are blocked by rubble, so you can get tantalizing glimpses but never get there. But there are only a couple of these, fortunately. -
Others here can comment on Torment--it must be doable or someone would have said--but the test is much easier if you start off right next to the red sentinel, so it doesn't use its fire attack. Spineshielded summons and an Acid Shower scroll are your friends.
Though it's true you probably can't survive this quest when you first get it. :-)

It doesn't end when, it ends where. And it has to end somewhere.
-
Are we talking about the apparent smudges of green slime that decorate the walls? Are they supposed to be dragons?
-
The locks that are "too complicated to be picked" usually have quest rewards behind them, so just be patient.

A6 - Jeff's games need some new sounds!

It sounds more like a child to me.
Maybe Lali Bali Cali is the Avernite equivalent of Ring Around the Rosie.
