    Odd weather...

May was unusual: temperatures in the high 20s, low 30s (Celsius). We consider that hot. The average last frost date is June 6th here. Or it was.

  5. But it is only a matter of time before something happens. We could hedge our bets by finding a way to live off-planet, but the obstacles are considerable.
  6. I suppose I was thinking of the area blocked by rubble on the other side--where you say the crystal is. So, yeah, technically "a couple" would have been more accurate than "a few".
  7. Never found one. There are a few seemingly inaccessible tunnels in that area. Someone who has tried ghostwalking might be able to tell for sure, but I doubt that there's anything in them of interest.
  8. Your political compass Economic Left/Right: -7.75 Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.18 Hm.
  9. If they played Beck's show with a laugh track, I'd have no problem with it. Whether he should be taken seriously or not, he is taken seriously by a small but significantly crazy segment of the population. Yes, there have always been lunatics, but they haven't always had national platforms from which to spew their lunacy onto the gullible and under-informed.
  10. Were you able to charm the loyalists guarding the entrance, and now you're having trouble with the downstairs guys? The underground loyalists are much higher in level and thus harder to charm than the topside ones. In fact, you probably don't want to do them just yet.

Real libertarians would be holding rallies to protest the new "papers please" law in Arizona. The Tea Party is quick to howl about imagined assaults on their liberty, but strangely silent about this real one. They keep using that word. I don't think it means what they think it means.
  12. You can't get there from the hideout. After you get your boat, you can access the lair from the Giant Lands.
  13. @Failedassassin: It's not really a problem, I'm just wondering if I've lost my mind. Anyway, don't let a little poison and acid stop you from trying basins--that which does not kill you makes you stronger. @Cthulhu: I don't think so; at least I've never heard that.
  14. English to Dutch and back again: Quote: For anonymously the bulk of history, a woman was. I didn't think I could improve on that.
  15. On my first playthrough (which was Mac v1.0.1), I'm sure the hidden basin west of Spire gave my party Enduring Armor every time I used it--of course I had to leave the area before it would refill, but it worked over and over. I downloaded v1.0.3 with a party about halfway through. I just took them back to the Abyss to take out the Loyalists and decided to hit the basin on the way--why not? Instead of Enduring Armor, I got the "marvelously clear thoughts" message that usually means XP. Odd. I left, came back, and tried it again. This time, and every time thereafter, I got poisoned and lightning auraed (aura-ed? Not really a good word, but you get it). So, did I somehow miss this before, or did Jeff change it?
  16. No, those slots are strictly for whatever melee and missile weapons you have equipped. I guess you're looking for a way to make a spell the default attack, as you can do in Geneforge, but I think you're out of luck. Sorry. Personally, I find myself using a fair variety of the spells in A6, so I'm opening up the spell menus half the time anyway. Or using the keyboard; P,E, zap that skeleton!
  17. The Jade Halberd is very good if you're using polearms, but the answer is no, you don't need to save all this stuff (except herbs as Californian notes). Decent to excellent items can be found throughout the game, and it's perfectly possible to win (on normal, anyway) with less than optimal equipment and/or builds. I always seem to end up with tons of craftables left over.
  18. There's a worldwide shortage of hurling virgins.
  19. Hey, maybe the aliens aren't so bad. Maybe we should try talking to them, you know, before we send in the ninja zombie velociraptor robots.
  20. Here is the fatal flaw: Originally Posted By: Cthulhu ...protect their threatened, beloved creators... If I were a zombie, I'd be mighty POed with whoever made me one. Wait, brains are optional?
  21. If you left and came back, you may have to start over, I'm not sure. In any case, the gates you're opening are not immediately obvious. After pulling the two switches you described, go back down and climb the next ladder counterclockwise and pull the switch. The gate in front of you won't open, but if you then go back down and climb the spiral staircase you'll find that the gate there did.
  22. Slith tank, Divinely Touched. You will level up a bit slower at first, but it pretty much evens out as you go, since XP rewards are adjusted according to your level. As for Gladwell, it's a matter of taste. I'm doing my first Gladwell play-through now, so I'll withhold comment for now, except to say that the rewards are nice but not game-changing.
