  1. Or what's the easiest way to view the guts of the game files? I'm also looking for the ones from Avernum 6. I want to include a dragon in my D&D game, but I suck at roleplaying these "bigger than you and doesn't take your crap" characters, and I remember being utterly floored by the way Jeff wrote Melanchion and Zephyrine when I played through these games. I'd love to be able to reread their dialogue.
  2. I've been instructed not to let the tyrant or his pet wizard know why I'm in their town. Which makes sense, even if it's fairly obvious and half the NPC's seem to guess, anyway. Everyone clamours to tell me that the wizard seems to know everything that's said about him, though whether this is because of scrying or just good paranoia is left ambiguous. Even the shaman lady also seems reluctant to discuss him, but she also implies that her lodge is protected and that we can talk about my mission. So my question is- does it make a difference to the quest line who I tell about my mission? A couple of the NPC's seem like they'd be safer to confide in then others. Is this the case? Will the bad guys work it out out anyway, or are things more difficult if I go blabbing to every Tom, Dick and Harry about why I'm here?
  3. A mage on one of my games gets the message that her armor is too encumbering to cast mage spells when I press "M" or click the mage spell icon to cast her spells, yet she doesn't when I press "S" or "C" or whatever it is, to bring up that list with all the mage and priest spells on it, and I can cast that way. Bug? Also, can someone explain to me how that works, how much armor can you wear before it won't let you cast? Does it go off weight, or -to hit chances, or something else entirely?
  4. This is almost certainly the wrong board for this, but Ive been reading some discussions where people linked screenshots of the endings to the past Geneforge games. I didn't buy or finish all of them, yet Im curious as hell about the endings: has anyone uploaded them all somewhere, or is there just the occasional screenshot floating around? Id love to read them.
  5. Ah, yeah, duh. Should've mentioned that. Im on Windows. Ratt: Im making the decisions I think are morally best, and seeing how they pan out. Im not trying to optimise.
  6. My hard drive recently got wiped, and I was quite far along in the game: too far along for me to really look forward to getting back there. Would anyone be kind enough to upload or send me their saves, if they have one from around the same point? My first priority is a game from roughly the same place. Ive just reached both the shaper camp Gmma and the rebel camp Aziraph in the north, and have started making sorties into Grosch. I would ideally like one that hasn't progressed past Southern Grosch yet. Second priority is skills: I had very high leadership and tool use. I don't really care about the others- I was playing a shocktrooper, but wouldn't mind playing as another class at all. Third priority is factions: I havn't been siding with either side exclusively. Ive been generally taking any quest to save Rebels/Shaper forces, ignoring any quest to turn in spies or informats, I betrayed the rebels transporting the geneforge, didn't sell out the safehouse, and I killed Moseh rather then repair him. My email is jhjstokes-atsign-gmail.com , if you have a save game from around this area. Thanks in advance.
  7. They pretty much already can... I mean, the original geneforge annoyed me, because I played a shaper and decided to use spells and batons over melee, only to find that my pathetically low strength meant I couldn't carry any loot at all. It got so frustrating to have to make multiple trips to carry my loot back to town, that in the end I just kinda lost heart. But in G4, your encumberance is decided solely by the armor and gear you're wearing, and you just have inventory slots for your backpack items. I think it's a much better system, myself. And how can you be carrying that much on your own? I mean... my girl is carrying 50+ javelins, 25+ pods and powders all sorted and seperated, various crystals, a big bag of coins, weapons and armor, and at various times, assorted furs, bolts of cloth, bars of iron, bags of grain, and other tradeable goods and loot, and you're telling me that she ISN'T making the thahd help with lugging it all around?
  8. Without giving any spoilers, can someone tell me; 1. Is it possible to bring about the destruction of one, or preferably both, geneforges, and still ultimately ally with the rebels instead of the shapers? 2. Is it possible to remain pretty much entirely neutral, and assist both sides sporadically, throughout the entire game? 3. Im at the part at the start of the game where I need to make a choice between betraying the caravan, and letting them through. Will my choice damn me entirely in the eyes of whichever side I annoy?
  9. I reposted this in the tech support forum, where it should be. Mods, feel free to delete the one in the Nethergate thread. Ive reached Vanarium playing as the Celts, and I saved, recruited each of the two NPC's in turn to see what their stats were like, reloading after seeing each, and it seems that their stats are entirely identical- about six points each in all stats, four or five in each weapon skill evenly- apart from Numerius having 4 or 5 points in Tool Use and the celtic woman having the same number of points in Faerie Lore. This seems weird to me, as Im playing through as the Romans as well, trying to keep the storylines as parallel as I can, and Rhiana and the loyal roman guy both had wildly different stats. Ive read a couple of guides just to check, and they confirm that these two are supposed to have wildly different stats, and certainly not the bland, identical layout that I got. What happened, and how do I fix it? I don't think I can just recruit the person of my choice and edit, as the save game editor doesn't seem to let you mess with your fifth PC slot.
  10. Im considering buying it when it's out for the PC. I didn't like Avernum 4. It was just way too damn linear. And, though Im not one of those hardcore people that actually enjoy playing as ascii characters, the superior gra.phics WERE welcome.. they nevertheless came at a cost of gameplay and strategy. Plus, what little I saw and heard about the plot seemed disappointing and uncharacteristically imaginative. That all being the case- am I gonna like Avernum 5? Im willing to make peace with the Geneforge engine, if I wind up getting half the freedom to roam around and be awesome that I had in Avernum 3.
