The infinity Engine games {Baldurs Gate,Icewind Dale....} may looked dated, yes..but they will be much easier to immerse yourself into that say 'Neverwinter Nights'.. it was the first 3D rpg made by Bioware..It loos horribly dated now, to the point where I really struggle to play it.. Even when it was new though I didn't like it as much as the older games... The Witcher Series is pretty darn good, and very nice graphics considering the first game was made with the aurora engine (Neverwinter nights engine) granted it was heavily modified.. If you dont mind what setting your games are in then the Fallout series can be quite good... PS - they have a deal on GOG.com for the next 2 Days... Did you see that program where they built a simulator.. and played Battle field III on it ..? They made a special floor, so no matter where you walk, no matter what direction, you stayed on this special floor.. and to the user it was just like walking around for real... they put it inside a big dome... and made it so where ever the user looked... thast where the screen was.. and then they also had paintball guns shooting at him when the AI counterparts aimed at him... It was proper awesome... When he came out he as sweating and was out of breath, everything... they had him linked to various monitors and he was actually scared... he said it ws so real it was unbelievable... and then they got that SAS guy to go in it and test it... They used all top end harware... it really was amazing.. I cant wait until home entertainment gets to that kind of level.. lol

I have been a member of this forum for years now but rarely post.. Only when games are due for release and during beta.. But I thought I would add my 2cents to this thread.. Imo 'nice' 2D/Isometric graphics will outlast 3D graphics..easily..for reasons already stated.. The creme de la creme of rpgs for me are the 'BigBitmap' engine driven games such as Baldurs Gate,Icewind Dale + their expacs.. And then ofc the ISometric games like Avernum.. the old skool Exile graphics are also very nice, and can be pretty timeless.. The thing is 3D tech moved VERY quickly, and the initial 3D games in the rpg genre just didnt look as nice as the previous games.. Look at Neverwinter Nights, Biowars first proper /fully 3D rpg...as already mentioned it looks very dated now..and I for one find it very hard to imerse myself into the world now... and tbh I found it hard going when it was new..I much prefered the older Infinity engine games.. Infinty Engine games are full 3D scenes, that are then saved as Large Bitmaps, hence the name 'BigBitmap Engine.'... They can then use either sprites OR 3D models in their worlds and they look very nice, immersion is very easy.. The slightest defect in 3D games and we the player notice their flaws, and it breaks immersion.. Nowadays the quailty of the games graphics from AAA+ titles is much greater (If done well with a decent budget) so its not as much of a problem.. Look at WoW:MoP or Skyrim.. Both fully 3D, with very different art styles.. and the art style can make alll the diffrence.. I find the better looking 3D games DO NOT try to be photorelasitic... That is where the problem of the 'uncanny valley' lie..where humans percieve something 'wrong' or 'not quite right' about the game world.. 2D doesnt try to be realistic ..so imersion isnt broken by the player thinking "Oh thats just doesnt look right" or "omg that looks bad" Thast why cartoonish, 2D graphics will always outlast those that try to be photorealistic.. Its similar to the way games went from being text driven (Dialogue wise) to voice acting.. Nowadays there are many who simply wont play games where they have to do a lot of reading... I have several friends from my guild on WoW who 'love' rpgs, and I tried hard to turn them on to spiderweb games, but they just do not like reading...so cannot getinto the games.. (All of these people are much younger than me, and some work in the industry as well).. So some of it comes from what you grew up with...

The net was a much nicer and friendlier place years ago..lol Back on topic.. I was really looking forwards to A:eftp and was not dissapointed when I got my hands on the beta.. I loved the changes made to it.. I think its a really good game and I look forwards to the remakes of the 2nd and 3rd games as well. The first trilogy was my fav btw I really liked Avadon too and cannot wait to see what is in store in the next chapter in the story.. I am not fussy about what order Jeff releases these games..It would be good to see Avadon 2 next though imo.. But I easy with whatever is released first.. I love Spiderweb games, I have played them since they first started, I got stuck into Exile round a mates house and was hooked.. The huge worlds and really cool sotrylines completely WoW'd me.. I had never played RPGs like them.. and still haven't really.. Sure I love my Bioware Baldurs Gate, NWN DA:O etc Oh and Icewind Dale ofc.. But Spiderweb is king of indie rpg imo..

As Randomizer has said "It will be released in April", it is on schedule for the date that given, I have beta tested windows versions for Jeff for years.. And as others have said no one wants it out he door quicker than what Jeff and the rest of Spiderweb do.. All good things to those who wait..

Why 2 priests ? There are many classses to choose from..various fighters, and magic types..as well as custom characters.. plenty of variation..

I cannot for the life of me recall where I heard/read it, I did find copies once many moons ago, so long ago I forgot both what happened to them and what they were called. I might try and purchase them again.. Playing the new avernum made me slightly nostalgic.. ok quite a bit

Heyah, Can anyone tell me the name of the book that inspired Jeff to write Exile..? I have seen it somewhere, maybe in an old interview.. but alas I cannot remember where.. Sorry if this shouldnt have been posted here, as its not strictly related to the new game, but any help would would be much appreciated .. Many thanks

I am glad that people do buy it on steam, and I hopethey accept the new game too Jeff.. More sales == more monies for Jeff which keeps him afloat and making great software.. But I realy dont get stream myself.. seems like its for lazy people to me...I mean c'mon how hard is it to email Jeff for a key rofl..and you have the demo to play while you wait.. I have used steam in the past, but now I hate it with a passion...I like owning the game a physical copy.. I really hate having only the option of a digital copy... Plus they do their freaky drm /whatever to the software..

May I ask why people will even buy this game on steam..? I mean Jeffs game are not exactly huge downloads so dont take up much space on the hard drive.. Also for people who go on about how great steam is because of not having to worry about your disc getting lost ot broken, well you dont have that problem with jeffs games anyway..IF you bought it on a disc and it does happen to get broken or lost you can simply download it again and he will give you a key in an email.. I do understand why some people use steam for some titles, although I wouldn't myself..

I was mainly thinking of how some devs have cut spells/talent trees/abilities from their games in the later versions. While I agree that in some cases it can vastly improve a game..I have also seen games ruined by it(ruined for me anyway).. Like the old saying goes "If it aint broke..don't fix it" Dragon Age Origins was 'the best' rpg from bioware since baldurs gate imo.When I got my hands on DA:II I was so excited. However upon installing and starting it I was so shocked at what I saw that I literally just sat staring at my screen with my mouth hanging open for several seconds before mouthing 'No..No!, oh god NO! what have they done!!' I was so peeved at what they had done to it, the interface was all differnt and looked more like SWKotOR..(I have the PC version) I had a ciggie,spoke to a mate who had just bought it as well and he said 'Just play it, give it 30 mins' So I sat down and started playing and sure enough, I soon started to see the good points about it..and after a while I was hooked and wanted to finish it.. Now while I still think it was a good game, and I enjoyed it. I do however think it strayed far from the path of DA:O to the point that I think maybe another title should have been used.

I just hope that Jeff doesn't dumb down his games to make them more casual anymore than he has done so far..

I dont see how steam makes it easier...Hardrives are now of a asize where you can have many games installed on your system at once...go to public>users>Games> <Name of game you want to play> What is so hard about that ? And ther is no problem where you lose access to your account and therfore ALL of you games ..as ther is with steam.. That and the price at which you can pick up used games now from amazon and the like I really see no point in steam.. I think it is good that Jeff can try and reach new players there (as I already said).. But other than that..I dont see the point. And all of my mates that used to harp on about how great it was have all come to have problems with it and have since stopped using it for new purchases..

There is no benefit imo, only hinderance... EDIT: Well, there is a benefit for Jeff..it gets his games to a wider audience..which is good, very good in fact.. But once people have found spiderweb I think they are better off getting them from Jeff...pay a little more and help keep him earning enough to continue doing what he does best.

I would rather buy form jeff than steam...I myself dont like steam, a mate of mine who was always banging on about how good it is and buy a lot of games via steam was recently left without any access to his account for about 8 weeks because of a problem with it. Steam wanted to know the serial number for EVERY title he had purchased via steam and refused to budge when he could only offer 4 or 5 of the more recent ones he had purchased... Needless to say that after much digging around he found them and informed steam, but it still took them about 2 - 3 weeks after that to get his account back. I would much rather buy the tile from the shop/Amazon or in Spiderwebs case stright from Jeff.

Its not too hot here in Cambridge (UK), we've had dark clouds and rain, light storms for the last few days, was really sunny and nice the week before though. It was so cold ay night last week that i put the heating on..rofl Over the last few years though, I have noticed hotter summer's, milder winters(normally) there has been the odd bad one.Oh, and the seasons seem to have shifted round slightly as well, weather staying nicer till later in the year and being worse at the start of the year..

I doubt the Navy Seals used M16's for the osama mission..they could've however gone for incapacitating shot's rather than the kill zone...It seems to me like the mission was all about the kill, and the capture was never even an option from the moment they left for his compound. And the whole buried at sea within 12 hours of death...Hmmmm, sorry but seem's like its a bit suspect to me. I understand the need for not informing Pakistan before the mission(in case of a tip off), and I understand Osama not wanting to end up like saddam, paraded round and hung on TV, and would probably want to go out in a gun fight as a martyr. Then again, maybe his money/connections could have bought his escape/freedom. I think most people would have liked to have seen more evidence of his death though, the way its been played out will certainly fuel the conspiracy theorists imo.
