I find people's incapability to comprehend instructions problematic. Manuals are placed for a reason. There's always the manna spell when desperate.
-
However, the party is pitted against even weaker creatures, makings it seem they are not weak.

I'm curious as to Jeff's reasoning for not incorporating an editor in the first place. It's amusing to wreak havoc with an invincible character once in a while.

This would have been better suited in the Avernum Trilogy forum. Avernum 4 was an egregious disappointment. Unlike it's throned predecessors, the game had little appeal after rummaging through Fort Monestary. -My browser has the belief that "monestary" is not a word and seeks to correct it with "monetary".

I've played before with all six characters adroit in the field of priestly matters, but magery no. I'm wondering why you chose to do that.

Where do I find the Xian Skull?
Callie replied to Critical_Failure's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
If I remember correctly, the Xian coin granted insufficient quantities of money to make it effective. -
post-nuclear setting, would it be possible?
Callie replied to Vandal delle 3V's topic in Blades of Avernum Editor
I think the most difficult obstacle in creating a futuristic scenario is that custom graphics are required to create a "realistic" atmosphere. -
First of all, I'd like to mention my doubts about activating a terrain by merely clicking it. The old fashioned special encounter pop up functions perfectly. Actually, you have to do this as far as my knowledge is concerned. Just for reference, the following action is in the "town calls" section of the appendix. Anyways, to teleport to another town, the action required is move_to_new_town(Town number, X-coordinate in town, Y- coordinate in town). Basically, if the party selects "yes" in the encounter you only need to include that action. I'm answering on the assumption you already know how to script special encounters. This example demonstrates how to move the party to coordinates (3,42) in town town 5. beginstate14; //Omitted material move_to_new_town(5,3,42)

Anything can be "damned" because it means to curse or condemn. "Darn" means to fix a hole in a sock. Xian items are irksome overall, there's only fun for a short duration of time. -
I just alter scripts to my use and receive the items that aren't present. It isn't hard to do actually.

I thought Rentar-Ihrno died in Avernum 3. She did reappear as an apparition, but having never played A4 or A5 I wouldn't know. The vahnatai are overrated. Ok, I just thought of a place in Avernum 3. There's a whole bunch of dervishes camped near Blackcrag Fortress. I was incapable of destroying their whole camp, so is it possible to do so?

Lord Putidus is a great beginner scenario, even though Kelandon suggests using a prefabricated party. If you start with that scenario, you still have a decent level of skill in thrown missiles after continuing on to another.

Have you e-mailed Jeff by any chance? Many laptops I've seen have numeric keyboards that work only if number lock is on. However, I highly doubt you wouldn't have noticed that already.
-
I edited the town script, and it seems to be working. For some reason, every temple I design has to have at least two doors. Maybe I need to be more open minded.
-
To kill doom guards I often surround them with force barriers. Killing Rentar-Ihrno is easier if you smother her with anti-magic fields.
-
I slew Khoth and all his guardians and blackshades, but I still didn't have access to his treasury (or whatever it is). I've also laid waste to Shayder on numerous occasions, but that's pretty easy.
-
Thank you, I should get around to doing that.

The top picture is the editor, which I'd assume is 2D. In other words, I already am using the default 2D editor. The second image is me actually playing the scenario. Thanks anyways.
-
I placed them manually. The Mac version of the editor I use is 1.1 (On OS 9.2.2) EDIT: No Celtic Minstrel, the two doors are his only route out...which should be blocked.
-
I've encountered that the NPC in the images ignores the blocked monster squares. In this situation its no big deal, but in other towns have the creature obey the blocked territory is integral. Please tell me how to solve this problem. Thanks! Eh, I don't know why the images are so huge...sorry about that. I have to transfer the file from Windows to Mac, so the image appears somewhat blurry.

I liked how a spell targeted a certain area, instead of picking a limited number of foes. Sleep clouds, curse spells, magic map, fireblast, REVIVE ALL...those were the days.

Ok then Name: Excalibur E-mail: int80@sbcglobal.net OS: Mac OS 9.2.2 or Windows 2000 Professional (Preferably Mac) Experience: Shades of Gray Note: If you send me the Mac version, please do so with WinZip. I accidentally downgraded StuffitExpander and am incapable of fixing it.

Why would a pacifist embark on an adventuring trip in the first place? I prefer Avernum's graphics over Exile's, the major improvement being walls. Avernum could do with more spells, but most of spells absent from Exile I can do without. (Death arrows weren't all that deadly)
-
I don't know how you guys do this. I attempted to play A3 on torment singleton and I repetitively died fighting goblins in Upper Avernum.
-
That's not what I meant.
