  1. I don't know about that I just assumed that a talking thahd stating that Shapers will not rule over him again and a pair of freshly used vats seemed odd. However there is a counter argument to my thesis; the crescent thahd which is at least two hundred years of age. As for the rest... You can start by a few questions -1 why return to Sucia isle? (That's your plot and the begining of your story for example) -2 why Brodus Blade? Why Gaia? Who is your PC? (What do both names mean, evoke) -3 why use the settling of G4? (Context) -4 what are the goals of your protagonists? What are their means? What does it cost them? (Action) -5 what are the conséquences of those actions? (Ending) -6 what are the intentions of your protagonists what moves them? -7 are there antagonists? Why do have them? What are their motives? If they go to Sucia isle via Lab accident then chose carefully what that implies; the discovery of a product, a self shaping technique which causes cancer etc...
  2. He's pretty straight foward, but the games don't devellop much about him except that he collaborated with his captors. I'd reckon he was perhaps involved in the creation of the first spawners on Sucia isle before going wild, create or enrage the thahd Rawbone and used the ruined School for some obscure purpose (Rawbone knows about the Shapers, but we can speculate that such creatures don't live for hundreds of years, and the vats of the school were reported to have been freshly used), stole the gloves and thus set the whole series into motion (Trajkov strands the player because on this and goes so far to form an alliance with the Taker serviles for expertise and goods.). He's known to set up Freeplace an advanced outpost (mines in the woods aren't Taker or Sholai made), using cryodrayks as mercenary guards with gold and gemstones solten from the Sholai, create the spawners in the wastes north of the Awakened lands (and reprogram pylons left in a ruin of the western wastes to protect the spawners) and to create traps in Sentinels and ancient crypt, clear out the shades and whatever horrors which lurked in the great Temple. He's also known to have knowledge of Heutess's (mark) and to use the land to it ´s best advantage (he uses the ghosts of the wastes to detter the Sholai from reaching him.). Goettsch was a strong fighter, skilled alchemist, Shaper and adminstrator before reaching Sucia isle, evreything the player is presumed to have wanted, a full Shaper with all the tools, training and years of practice that one was entrusted for a position of great power. With that said I just see him as a ruthless, evil, manipulative (he tries to tick the player to his side and deceives Trajkov), perhaps xenophobic (he doesn't like the outsiders whom he calls invaders) and power hungry Shaper who is jellous of the power of the isle.
  3. *Spoilers* Well that's where I disagree. We know that the Geneforge is a moral and political tale about misuse of power and that like drugs it is addictive. But I didn't hear anyone say that in G1 the player is discribed to have xenophobic reactions: he is disgusted by the physique of rebel Sholai, or the Sholai ( a people whom also he knows nothing of) scouts at north and southbridge. He behaves in this way so badly that he is even feeling (perhaps out of jealousy) aggressive towards people who both allude to the power that canisters confers, and help him (confer Anya in Astrov's cave). It goes to the point that if the player uses the Geneforge, the ultimate canister, he has a fit of anger and kills any Sholai outsider he finds without warning, despite being previously on (his/her) side, to "uphold the laws of the Shapers". One could argue that if power corrupts, the characters were already flawed before attaining such degrees of power conferred by the addictive canisters. To paraphrase Frank Herbert, Power corrupts because it attracts the corruptible.
  4. Yes indeed there's something of an Alexander in Trajkov, big visions, big people, big power and big paradoxes too. Wanting to be a king with power hungry subordinates of a state where humans and creations are free. Being an outsider wanting the power of the geneforge, a Shaper weapon created to subdue the outsiders and remake the world to the Shaper's whim, according Danette's shade.
  5. Well perhaps before any of that could you tell me what does Geneforge means to you, their characters, the story etc... ? Have you have an idea of a beggining, a middile and an end for your story in the light of this knowledge?
  6. If you need help on G1, you can send me message. Know that there is a ton of information background and art in my files should you need it [ http://www.freewebs.com/geneforgeremaker/apps/blog/ , http://www.freewebs.com/geneforgeremaker/apps/photos/album?albumid=14037541 ]. Oh and there is a walkthrough with all the items and people of G1 which might intrest you, though it isn't finished: http://gary2000.blog93.fc2.com/blog-entry-260.html
  7. Has a communist state ever existed? I thought 20th century Stalinism was promoting a socialist state. Although it's great to have an educated public, what about structural problems of a political regimes how is this only a problem of education?
  8. Well in terms of games G1 and G2 have a descent storyline until, wait for it... It goes mid-late game. In G2 there is little motivation whatsoever to take on the Takers, and the taker ending isn't creative. In G1 there is little motivation and impetus given to search areas such as Freeplace or westgate, other than finding canisters or as an alternative root to trajkov although they have great story plot value. Trajkov loyal Sholai have little development at time, as if we only scratched the surface. Details of Geottsch's collaboration would have also been a nice.
  9. I have a question, when do you become a member? I have contacted arancaytar@ermarian.net to no avail.
  10. Spoilers: In G1 it is simply explained that the shapers learned to modify living organisms, by more or less modifying key gene sections. Then by some miracle they invented essence and learned to shape it into living things. I find no objection to the idea that proto-Shapers were so advanced that they were capable of memorizing how to replicate the effects of shaping already living materials onto essence, herby creating creations without the need of an already existing creature, as they did in the past on Sucia isle at some point. Since thahds, battle alphas and servile can talk, my guess is that they were human at one point. It's also possible that servant minds are from human stock, though it's not an affirmation. In my fan fiction I have Glaahks related to grasshoppers because they seem to have similar legs and functional feet, which do not look like a scorpion's or a clawbug. Vlish are discribed in G1 by Sholai soldiers as "worms" and not squid, which is interesting. As for the rest...
  11. Hi everyone, there has been a substantial rewrite of some of the material on http://shortsstories.webs.com/apps/blog/ , Repharite in peculiar. Three new entries were written down "entry 7", "8" and "9": http://shortsstories.webs.com/apps/blog/show/42599611-entry-7 http://shortsstories.webs.com/apps/blog/show/42601907-entry-8 http://shortsstories.webs.com/apps/blog/show/42603624-entry-9
  12. Super! How do you change your character's sprite in the main map?
  13. Well no, they are westerners like yourself. Neither of them speak russian, but they've known some and worked with some more. I have great admiration for Russia, it's a harsh land and the people in it are survivors, it's a shame that it's such a wrecked land. The day it'll change... like they say: Что у кого болит, тот о том и говорит.
  14. And back to the Nostalgia thread what about Death knight?
  15. Short entry on disney: "I don't usually talk about how mother got fired from Disney. Or how toons and animators got thrown out from Montreuil's studio Brizzy, having to work as animators somewhere else. My mother did camera work on films like Babar,or the goofy movie to the famous scene where Tarzan tree slides. She worked also on films as spohisticated as the hunchback of nôtre dame, hercules, brother bear and more. She was taught and trained by the polac animator Pépé Guy, who was the artistic director on esisentein's Ivan the terrible and moved on to work with the young michel Gondry, who used to date Télé Hachette's directrice. After father got sick she continued working at the Brizzy studios in Montreuil which was bought and later scrapped by Disney. Roy Disney resigned when the descision was made by mr Isner. Pixar moved into the frame thenafter. The mariage between the compagny founded by Goerge Lucas and the fairy tale multi-national corporation is now a solid one, films and animators working on short and long feature films with umbrellas or flying paper planes. But the toons and people who were put out of a job by Disney are not there anymore. The imprimerie at Montreil is overunn by metal brair and empty of people like Etienne, Mary, the Adams, Bruno, Pierre, Christophe and many others. Mickey mouse is being framed in India or in Korea, a so called cheaper alternative to employing a fully trained équipe of proffesional computer-trained and dedicated artists. Goofy, mickey, Donald and Miney all actors of Disney do not voice out our cries. Juan 'Guardino', the famous cat détective, smokes a cigarette, content that his work has stopped there at Disney and enjoys a beer at Angoulème. The toons of Brackenwood are brand new, boiled and dried out from chemical vats, because Adam Phillips had the oportunity to leave the now closed Sydney Disney Studios. I sometimes meet old maleficient who brews there in her stormy mountain fortress as she scorns and ponders over the world, not having been invited at the great Disney banquet. I occasionly look at the recent disney and Pixar films with the same look on my face, the pride of my family broken and wondering how my life could have been had the studios not shut down. Toons equally anxious. Sprites have left their two dimension homes for places such as Desura games, playing wizardry with Dominions 3 and 4 or sit gloomy before tumblr and Facebook; Alice of wonderland all grown up has died her hair black, pierced her tits and wearing tattos, works online. Alice sometimes stop working and looks over betty boop, who puffing on weed, remembers better times. Their neighbour, Little Nemo, now all grown up, is all melancholy in his heart while Brair Rabbit struggles with the tar baby of daily living and earning money in a jobless world. The king and the bird have retreated from this world into an other. Brock Samson and the Venture Brothers mock the dreams of old and those of today's. Buzzard from men in black, Roger Rabbit, Tex Avery's glutton cat and Dumbo discuss the future with J.c Denton, Old Mortrax, last of the five dragons of Avernum, Commander Vibus of Nethergate, Melko, Valar of Angband and James from Silent hill. Even the concombre masqué has given up hope. The pencil drawn and stop motion animation era is over. Harryhausen and Disney have died and the people working for them vanished without a say." - http://shortsstories.webs.com/apps/blog/show/42016720-why-so-melancholy-prince-phillip-
  16. But Gremlin Wine gives the excuse you really want to beat up low up to intermediate level monsters early on...
  17. I don't think it's a bad thing, having a drop out. We are old fashioned gamers on a conservative board. Even the Angband boards are less crowded. I'd like also like to use this occasion to say thank to you Kelandon for participating in the Avernum encyclopedia project (please correct me if I'm wrong) and the reviews.
