  1. I go vegetarian every now and again, just to change things up a little. Most of the time, I'm a strict omnivore. You can have my bacon. I like bacon, but it doesn't like me. Try cooking for a longer time at a slightly lower temperature.
  2. I used to play a game called Crusade in Space. The controls were confusing to the novice player; the popup menus were cumbersome and awkward; and I swear I lost about a year of my life to lag time. By comparison, Jeff's game engines are a dream come true. I don't have a cane, sorry. Will you settle for my homemade slide rule?
  3. Among others, yes. In fact, I play the entire Alpocalypse album. I've been known to play the Dare to be Stupid album too. Come to think of it, maybe I should get my copy of BoE out of mothballs, and play the various "chicken plauge" scenarios using "I want a New Duck" as a sound loop.
  4. It's about 6PM on the 21st here. The 22nd is only a few hours away for me, and is already well underway in some places. Surprise, surprise, the world didn't end as the Mayans supposedly foretold. Hey, who hacked my computer and stole my to do list?!
  5. Actually, SubTerra is basically a Boulder Dash clone that combines a lot of the better elements from earlier Boulder Dash clones. Its sequel, SubTerra 2, is along similar lines, but with an almost entirely different set of elements.
  6. Whatever you're celebrating this year, everyone have a good one!
  7. I couldn't help but notice the first cocktail on the list. There's a drink named for me? They shouldn't have! Seriously, though, they really shouldn't; I don't drink that much in general to warrant it, let alone the ingredients listed.

    I live

Always good to see a familiar face. Welcome back!
  9. I normally just stick with the sound loops that come with the game, and I'm satisfied. Sometimes I will play some music, but it's usually Beatles or Weird Al Yankovic. I also have a small collection of MIDIs from various genres that I'll play, just to make the game interesting. Sure, things like "Yakety Sax," "Popcorn," "Day Tripper," and "Maple Leaf Rag" are well out of place in most situations (especially boss battles); but "Time of the Season" works pretty well in a long, hard dungeon crawl.
  10. Or both, IMHO. I once went on to my bank's website to create an online account, but decided against it when I learned I had to create a password exactly 6 alphanumeric characters long. Needless to say, I didn't create the account. I prefer long passwords, especially if the allowed length has both a high lower limit and no upper limit. My passwords tend to be around a dozen or so characters, but some have a length of 20 or more, if the site allows. Nice generator; and I like that it has multiple languages, so you can combine them to create some passwords that are possibly really tough to crack. However, FYI: If you click "Generate another" enough times, words will begin to repeat. Keep clicking, and you'll get some weird phrases, like "herd society government slipped," "body tales raise three," or "carry branch stems too." Yes, those were actual results.
  11. Anywho, back to topic (and the end of a month-long hiatus for me): I don't mind my new member number, but I did notice it took quite a nose dive. IIRC, it started out around the mid- to upper 7800's, dropped a handful or so for the first migration I was here for, and then plummeted during this move. *shrugs* Oh well, new times, new numbers, I guess. "Meh" all around.
  12. Regardless, I think it's a good thing I don't even use my real name most of the time.
  13. Interested, yes. Able, no. I have far too much going on at the moment to do much beyond work, eat, and sleep--and sometimes the second two fall by the wayside a bit. Sorry.
  14. My responses: Undecided No Yes Yes I am going to hunt you down for posting this poll. (Well, not really.)
  15. It's been a while since I had a good cup of Earl Gray, hot or otherwise. And no, I'm neither British, nor a starship captain. You called?
  16. Possibly, but I seriously doubt it; remember, this is Windows we're talking about. The only thing I know of that would even come close to this would be at least temporarily disabling the UAC.
  17. At home, I my coffee is by volume one part milk, two to three parts coffee (to cool it down a bit). In a restaurant, I usually add two or three creamers, and the same number of sugar packets (it tends to taste burnt). I don't normally drink coffee black unless either it actually tases good to me that way, or I simply have no choice.
  18. Eh, I'm not going to waste any time by making predictions now; I'll wait until Saturday, at the earliest.
  19. May the fluffy turtles restore your sanity during your absence. For now, I shall bid you adieu, and wish you good luck. Your return has been foretold. Once Spiderweb has been reached, all roads lead back to Spiderweb. Thus it is written.
  20. Been there, done that. There was even one OS reinstall where I managed to have a complete backup readily available, only to discover that everything in the backup had been reverted back to May of the previous year. As far as paper is concerned, I'll take the hardcopy over the electronic version any day. I hear a lot of talk every so often about how we're supposed to be becoming a "paperless society," but I don't really believe it. Every time I hear some (usually self- proclaimed) "expert" declare the world to be officially paperless by a specific date (never the same twice), someone else turns a cubic mile of lumber into billions of 20-page pamphlets touting the evils of deforestation. This. Minus the dog, though; I don't have any kind of pet. I do, however, usually have a cold drink nearby, and sometimes an LP playing.
  21. I certainly hope not. My theory is the bats have a serious case of dandruff. That, or it's so cold in some places that any condensation on the ceiling falls down as snow.
  22. I suspect that it's because a retrainer could break the game's balance, for example you could go with an entirely physical party against enemies weak against physical attacks, and vice-versa for enemies weak against magic, you could give your party a huge amount of whatever lore you needed and then reallocate the points to combat, In Avadon the skills in which a character can train is fixed, you can't really have 3 shadow walkers or shamans fighting for you in spite of the retrainer, thus it might not be such a terrible idea after all.On the plus side, though, it helps tremendously when you do a bad job training your character (as I have often done).
  23. I'm assuming you're using Windows Vista or later, and you installed your games to the Program Files folder. If so, then you needn't worry; starting with Vista, Windows is very paranoid as to what you can and cannot do with anything installed in Progrm Files, so it's just doing what it thinks is its job. The best workaround I know of, which has been posted elsewhere (mainly in Tech Support), is simple: Create a folder dedicated to your games, either in your root directory, or on another drive on your computer. Then, reinstall all your games to this folder. Life will become much simpler. EDIT: Just make sure you back up any saved games you want to keep, plus all your preference files, just in case they disappear in the process.
