Or, in the Avernum series, when you deactivate the character editor.

    Really?

By the way, has Anatomy returned to Geneforge?

Because it's the one place that I could actually sort of kick back and relax in, and the one place that didn't have the same air of panic as the rest of the cities in Avernum. Also, in A2, it was the first place I had found magic lockpicks, and in A4, it was the only way to get through Almaria. I think those are excellent reasons for choosing Camp Samuels.

I think so, but I haven't played it in a while.

    2) I played G1 as a Shaper and just started G2 as a Guardian. The fyora I created at the beginning really sucks (he misses his shots as often as not, and I don't think that ever happened in G1). Is this because I'm a Guardian or because in G2 fyoras suck?
Both. Fyora, along with other creations, were going through a bit of re-balancing. Also, Guardians aren't as good as Shapers when it comes to making creations.

    3) In G1 you can pause the game by hitting escape and then switch into some other applications. I haven't found a way to switch out of G2 yet; is there one?
If you're on Windows and have a certain keyboard, you can hit the Windows key (It's the weird little key with the flag-like Windows thing on it.) and it will minimize GF2. It can take a while, though.

Wow. You recognized it just from the small description I gave?

At any rate, Total Annihilation does have excellent music. I actually wanted to have some of the music in a format that could be used outside of the game, but couldn't find any sort of soundtrack, or files on the game CD. I know I would play those tracks in both Avernum and Geneforge. cool
  6. It may be because A4 was switched over to a brand-new engine. Spellcraft wasn't in the previous Avernums, but Magery was. Spellcraft was adopted from another Spiderweb series, Geneforge, and the skill worked on the same principles as Magery. When some of the elements of Geneforge were built into the new Avernum engine, slight oversights may have been made.

Or, more likely, Magery is a sort of bonus for powerful mages. A cheaper way to boost the power of your spells.

I had a game like that. It was an RTS, which allowed you to reassign either the default tracks or your own music to certain categories (Peaceful, Combat, etc.). I preferred the in-game music though.

    +1 to [Mage/Priest] or +1 to Spellcraft?
Mage/Priest skill if you're just starting out, Spellcraft if you have a fairly high levels of Mage/Priest skill and are part way through the game. don't neglect Mage/Priest spells, though. Keep adding a point to it now and then.

    Same as above.

Whichever one's cheaper at the moment. They both have the same effect.

Looking at the screenshots... The graphics are so good that I almost thought this was a big budget title. Wow. And yes, I like the new fyora graphic. Although when it's facing NW, it tends to look like a fire lizard from Avernum.
  10. Try a three person party. A Nephil warrior/archer, with high defense, a mage, and a priest. Then battle most of the monsters in the first part of the game. Then, when the apparition appears in Formello, look around and recruit Becca into your party. She will be your pole-arm warrior, and also will have far more experience and abilities then anyone else in your party. (Assuming you aren't cheating)

  11. I don't know if my villain will be considered any good. I'm aiming for trying to make the party somewhat sympathetic to the villain's cause, yet they still hate his guts. Whether I pull it off is yet to be seen.

I know this isn't related, Kelandon, but I sent you a PM a week ago about your scenario.

There's one massive danger with this train of thought. The shapable version of the creation is also used elsewhere in the game. Therefore, if you turn the shapable fyora into a slith, you will eventually run across other 'sliths' elsewhere in the game.

An example? In GF3, I tried to turn the shapable version of the Ornk into a cameo of myself, which could cast Diamond Spray at will. Imagine my surprise when I walked into San Ru and discovered a bunch of 'me' grazing near the back of the town. This would have been bad enough, except that those 'me' creatures were also mooing!

Needless to say, I promptly returned the script to normal, and never again attempted to modify a creature.
