  1. I've had that happen. However, it was because I was playing around with Avernum's data scripts. I doubt that you've been doing that, so I don't really know what it is. My only guess is that one of the data scripts are off. EDIT: The half complete post was courtesy of Sydney the cat.

Sounds like something was wrong before (or is it after? ) they came here via time machine. -------------------- This post is sponsored by Al's Non-Drooping Lightsabers.
  3. No. It would still cover it because it's talking about it as a whole, not just as it relates to Spiderweb.

  6. I see the collectivity as something along the lines of someone with Multiple Personality Disorder , without the multiple personalities. It refers to itself as multiple entities, but is obviously a single entity.
  7. Just a bit of nitpicking I'd like to do, Waylander. Quote: The Shapers do not allow the thought of independence from Shaper rule to even enter the heads of the non-Shaper humans. If that was true, there would be a lot more civilian casualties. Quote: Humans and serviles have no rights, even to that of a fair trial. If a Shaper wishes to dispossess you of your home and your possessions, tough titty. If a Shaper takes a dislike to you and wishes to vapourize you, tough luck. Not true. While serviles don't have rights, outsider humans do. And shapers don't wantonly kill. One of the keys to their rule is that they look flawless from the outside. If they started randomly butchering everyone, this would soon fade. Also, shapers tend to use their ability of demanding possessions sparingly, and I have yet to hear of a shaper taking someone's house. Quote: The Shaper government employs extreme brutality to enforce its rule. That should read "The Shaper government employs extreme brutality to enforce its rules on shaping." They guard their power carefully, and for good reason. Look at what a mess it can cause in the wrong hands. But they don't, in 99 times out of 100, apply extreme brutality for no good reason.

As readers of your story would probably know full well, I was mauled by fluffy turtles for keeping a bit of sanity on me. So that may not be a good idea.
  10. And don't forget, it's cheap! ... Well, comparatively. I thought Retribution was in A2, though...
  11. Option 3.25 is the one for me. Basically, I'd start an underground resistance, slowly picking off the invaders one-by-one. Maybe not as impressive as a blatant, out-in-the-open resistance, but I'd survive longer, and it would probably be more effective. Quote: Originally written by Thuryl: Seriously, guys. I know we all want to play at being heroes, but if you had that kind of courage in real life you'd already be off doing aid work in Sudan instead of gabbing away on a message board. Firstly, I'm not sure a bunch of under-21-year-olds are going to help much in the Sudan (Recent polls and censuses have shown that the two leading age majorities on these boards are collage-age and teenagers). Secondly, why go off and fix other nations' troubles when we have crippling problems of our own right here in the good old U.S.A? The Bush Administration has seen to that. Thirdly, there's a lot of good to be done in our own country. We don't have to run off to a foreign country just to prove we're courageous, or to do good. And as for being a coward: I'm sure that people in the topic situation have a right to be somewhat cowardly, no? Quote: Originally written by Zeviz: that might depend on their upbringing, as much as personality. I think it also depends on your ancestry. If there's violence in your ancestry, you're probably more likely to be violent yourself. I have more opinions on this subject, but it's getting off-topic as it is. 12. Which version of the spell Divine Retribution do you prefer? The Avernum 1-3 version or the Avernum 4 version?
  13. The Barzites wouldn't have shapers if they didn't hand canisters out. Except for Barz(ah/ha)l. -------------------- This post is sponsored by Barzite Bonanza Bazaar. Hundreds of quality canisters for low, low prices!
  14. Quote: Originally written by Shadowplay: 7. One thing that I found strange: I couldn't seem to figure out if Demonslayer had any special properties against demons. Maybe enhanced critical hit probability? Also, did Heartstriker have any special powers other than doing huge damage? The Demonslayer just does extra damage to demons. It doesn't seem that noticeable at first, but have a fighter hack at a demon for a couple turns with the Demonslayer, and then switch to a different sword with similar attack power. The difference is a bit surprising. The Heartstriker bow just does ridiculous amounts of damage. However, it is easily one of the most powerful weapons in the game, and many have claimed it as their favorite. Quote: Originally written by Shadowplay: If you want a great investment, think of a few levels of Priest for your fighters. They become a fountain of free pre-battle Bless/shield and post-battle healing. Are those undead or demons troubling you with their melee resistances? Have your fighters zap away with Repel Spirit. I actually did sort of an opposite of this. I trained my spellcasters in the archery skills, so that if my spellcasters ran out of energy, they could pelt enemies with an indefinite number of arrows. Actually, come to think of it, all my party members had some level of skill in archery. -------------------- This post is sponsored by the Heartstriker for President group.
  15. I use them in moderation. That way, I keep my... Oh, wait, I already forfeited my sanity when I came here, didn't I?
  16. For fake rings, see my above post. If you wish to leave the Anama, however, then you must talk to high priest in Shaydar. There should be an option to leave the Anama somewhere in his dialogue, though you may have to dig around to find it. -------------------- This post is Anama disapproved
  17. Can't you have them removed by talking with high priest what's-his-name and having him turn them to ash?
  18. Just applied. Second time's a charm!

Quote: Stop your borderline noobish comments Another brave thing for you to say. Quote: and stop saying that cheats are a feasible strategy. They are, though. One that I personally detest, but it is a viable strategy. Quote: We can barely understand what the you're saying, and Nalyd doubts that it would make sense at any rate. Hmm. Let's see if I can clean it up a bit. Quote: Originally written by opon mars (cleaned up): Use dbugkill, since I use it every day to zap all of my enemies. Alorael, the shapers used genocide to build their empire. And as far as I am concerned there is something that mankind forgot that is preventing it to live with sticks and bones: they cut of every way to go back to prehistory. Man at his dawn was much fitter and more intelligent than now because of the push of survival, and the extremes of life. And that is why we are cozy and warm, not like our ancestors that were cold and uncomfortable. Oops! Another mass extinction! (God used dbugkill in the late Permian period) That's better, and also a bit more understandable. What it has to do with the topic is that... I'll have to get back with you on that one.
  20. Hmm. I'm not a big fan of canisters, because the price is too steep for the rewards. However, there are a couple of experiments I would like to see done, simply to sate my curiosity. First, using canisters as a form of accelerated evolution. Have several people use a canister, but not allow them access to further canisters. Then, have the next generation of the canister descendants use a canister, so on an so forth. This might be able to gradually increase the strength of a population while avoiding the detrimental effects on the mind. Second, using canisters as a form of pre-programming someone's genes from birth. This might be able dodge the mental effects because the young body would (hopefully) be able to adapt to the change.
  21. Quote: Originally written by Kyrek: Shapers use their will to control creations. They have trained their mind to be incredibly powerful. True, but even the best Shaper can lose control of his/her creations, especially if he/she is pushed to the limit of his/her ability. Quote: Have you seen a mage that knows Kill? I can't remember seeing one. Both of us probably have. I can remember one instance of a mage using Kill. Also, have you used the Kill spell against everything you meet? Just because you know a spell doesn't mean you'll use it. Quote: I also seem to remember that in Dhonal's Keep, the magic school's most dangerous spell was Ecsence Orbs. That may have more to do with the fact that you are an apprentice Shaper. Skilled, and with plenty of field experience, but an apprentice nonetheless.
  22. I believe that canisters should be used, but only in moderation.
  23. That was quick. Quote: Originally written by Kyrek: Shapers don't let mages have that kind of power. Magic doesn't give you an army. Shapers can make an army and can probably keep you from making it go rogue. Not true. Shapers allow mages to study almost all forms of magic, Shaping excluded. Also, don't forget, that while a Shaper has the power make an army, a mage has the power to turn said army on it's master. Also, most Shapers can't prevent a creation from going rogue, unless they are solidly built. And in a combat situation, Shapers generally have to make them on the fly.
  24. Quote: Originally written by Kyrek: ET - There would have been war then, and the Shapers would have won and tried to force them off their continents. It would be genocide, it would be war. It would happen, shaping or not. Magic is a far more powerful tool than you give it credit for, which brings me to my second point: Quote: Have you met a soldier that can defeat a wingbolt before? No. But powerful mages are scattered throughout the Shaper empire, and they are probably fully capable of taking an army of creations.
