  1. Bug reports should go directly to Spiderweb Software, as Jeff doesn't read everything on the boards regularly. The boards are a good place to ask questions and discuss strategy.
  2. I have to second that. Far from being a power gamer I usually sigh when I read the power gaming discussions on how to beat a game as a torment singleton - not because I can't see the challenge in that but I probably would be unable to do that without getting really tense and annoyed. When, during beta, something killed me, those were the fights I'd go in thinking about how to win next time around. I admit, that happened quite frequently, but pumping Endurance a bit and getting tough armor countered that effectively. Otherwise, it was pretty straightforward on normal, I thought. But it's probably a good idea to take a party through beta with a built that would make more than half the people on these boards wince and the other people irate. Next time, perhaps.
  3. When you apply for a web designer position I want to see your work. Do the sites you design have a fingerprint, do they look good? Also, as this is certainly a position where some creativity is in demand, I would look into other creative things you do, e.g. do you write, act, play an instrument, that sort of stuff. But that's just me ;-)

Wands and crystals I usually keep and don't use either. Next time through I shall dare to sell them all. The Knowledge and Wisdom items are always immediately consumed, though.
  5. I had this feeling of sometimes being lost during beta. I figured it was due to the fact that I couldn't play as much as I would have liked and simply forgot about things. However, when trying to recap what quests I had gotten from whom to send me where and what for, it made me dizzy. Then I decided to live with the little surprises like people giving me rewards for things I had long forgotten about. It's not a game you want to rush through, if you like little details. Also the writing is very good, but that's not really a surprise. Although, it is really good, a lot of closure (and a grand opening for a new world - with, perhaps, an old wizard we all have come to... erm... know?).

    DRM Question

Originally Posted By: Faithful Thanks guys for the replies. I must say though, I am at a bit of a loss as there are so many posts and not all agree with one another. As best I can tell buying form Spiderweb directly carries some sort of DRM but it is very mild in the form of a key that allows you to play the game. I am not sure why one would need to contact Spiderweb to receive another if the game can be installed any number of times with the one code. I would not call that DRM but paying for your product instead. It's a bit like reading a couple of pages in a bookstore to see if you like the book before you buy it. You will want to get a new key if, by accident, you lost your copy of the game or the key. If you redownload the new copy will create a different number with which your old license key will not work. Quote: I only play the game on one computer and typically only download games one time and then burn them to CD/DVD to reinstall if I reformat or simply uninstall and then want to play again later and reinstall. If I get a physical copy of the game do I need the CD in the drive to play? No, only for the installation. That would be DRM of some sort, albeit the old, dongle-like variant. My stance is SW does not implement DRM but gives you something for free. If you like it you may buy more. edit: Not bad. two replies while I wrote this. Not bad at all.
  7. please, continue downstairs solo and tell us how that went with broken demonslayer
  8. Plus, I think the way handles Demonslayer's end is very funny.
  9. The thing is that we're talking about Avernum here. People, like, know where things are at. It comes down to a matter of taste, really. I would argue, your group are handed a map of Avernum before they set out. So there realyy isn't anything to fix, because it ain't broken.
  10. Fissure post is west of the castle by a lake. A bit more than half-way to Dharmon.
  11. Synergy's list is impressive - again. So, thanks. I'm still unsure which weapons are best of their kind. Jade Halberd seems obvious, as does Heartstriker Bow. But what about blades? I've carried a lot around but I just can't decide which is the best combo. What do you think? edit: personally I'm going with venomous blade and ghostly blade thus far. Question is: are there better options?

    buying

The 'No' applies to the 'is this a problem' question, not the other one with the question mark missing. So, yes, you can buy Spiderweb games outside the US.

  14. One of the aspects of 'global warming' one should not really forget is the ice caps melting and Siberia's tundra thawing. When that happens the results in all probability will be devastating and it won't really matter if temperatures in another part of the world did infact decrease to counter the global rise statistically.

  16. As SoT already said: it's amazing how huge the game is and how the quests are designed. It does remind me of Exile 2 when I first played it. You think you've accomplished something and shortly thereafter this little success is dwarfed by the next tier of quests... repeatedly. It's simply awesome.

    Pet Peeves

You know, there is something you can do with zucchini: Slice 'em, salt'em, let 'em sit for a while (gets a lot of mostly tasteless water out); marinade the dehydrated bunch in olive oil, sliced small chili pepper, crushed garlic (plenty), lime juice, a hint of both vinegar (white balsamico or malt) and brown sugar, salt and pepper. Barbecue them on aluminium/tin-foil or fry them in a pan (you will have to let them dry on kitchen towel or sth. like that afterwards. The result is so unlike what you all described - it's delicious.
  18. Becoming lenient with age, ey? Good for you
  19. The error dialog says Geneforge 5. Are you sure you are trying Avernum 6? The latter worked for me with Snow Leopard on two different machines during beta testing. edit: I just checked on Geneforge 5 and there are some graphics issues (colored squares around virtually everything that moves. Which version of which application did you actually download? edit2: and even that glitch is fixed in GF 5 v 1.0.4. You should mail Jeff about this.

  21. How do you know that's not what you are seeing? Who claimed that this is the map you start with? I'm curious.
  22. From what I remember only the "what a place to be starting your life of crime" endings are contained within the scripts. The ending texts are within the application, as SoT said (and I tried to do before).
  23. As far as I recall the end texts are assembled based on quite a few flags set during the game. So I wouldn't know how to get to them as they're not contained within the scripts folder (at least not to my knowledge).
  24. I raise my hand, but skip the brooding argument this time around.
