However, I can tell you how to get Demonslayer : go to Patrick's Tower and speak with Solberg, who will tell you about Lord Bhoralon. East of Patrick's Tower, guarded by some lizards, is a stairway. Go down, then go northwest. Find the red demon (Lord Bhoralon). Kill him. Go back to Solberg, tell him that you killed the demon, then ask him about where Demonslayer is. Go to Fort Emerald. From here, go north, then west, then north as soon as possible, and hug the wall, going north until you find a secret passage. Enter, go down, deactivate the golem-spawning machine to the southwest (if you can), and use all of the panels in both control rooms (northwest, southeast). The entrance to the Demonslayer Hall is southeast, and is protected by blue traps, get rid of them and follow the path. Kill the demon and the golem (make sure that, each turn, you attack the one that isn't protected by the magical barrier). Use Smite on the demon, and Acid Spray, Lightning Spray, and physical attacks on the golem. Once the golem falls, get Demonslayer. EDIT : You can also use physical attacks on the demon. Once one of two guardians falls, the remaining guardian will no longer be protected by the magical barrier.
  2. After reading jestrada5's thread in the AT forum, I thought I would try something similar with A4, just for fun. So here's my party : Ssschah Slithzerikai Blademaster Brittle Bones Frail Mmrrr Nephil Archer/Explorer Brittle Bones Frail Mycroft Human Priest Strong Will Frail Cordelia Human Mage/Thief Nimble Fingers Frail Well geez, at first I wasn't being serious, but now I am considering replaying the whole game with this party. My PCs are leveling up really fast. If I keep playing, I'm pretty sure my slith will be an ur-blademaster in no time - and he should be able to get some Parry quite early, too. So far none of the enemies I've met have been too hard - and I haven't even used the Daze spell yet. Even Blackfur was a pushover and the Fort Draco shade wasn't that tough. I had to use a bit more armor than usual for my slith, but that was all. So, um, I'm afraid I strongly disagree with Schrodinger about Frail.
  3. Dexterity does not [EDIT : seem to] increase bow damage in Avernum 4. Strength, on the other hand, may increase it a little, I think. EDIT : Okay, I think we need an expert to confirm this.

Or whatever's left of it now. You can't get to Erika's Tower until very late in the game. You first need to get to the Abyss, then to Bargha, then to the Giant Lands, then to the tunnels in said Giant Lands, then to the Remote Lands, then to the Dark Lands, and from here you need to go west, then south to the west side of the Remote Lands until you reach Erika's Tower. Phew. And I hope boats will be back in Avernum 5.

And by the way, you have to be on the west side of the river to find the real entrance to this Darkside fortress.

The Vengeful Shades it spawns fall quickly to Divine Retribution and Fireblast, and when it's 'invulnerable', you can still do good damage using bolt of fire and repel spirit. The Red Shade of Hatred, on the other hand, uses very powerful attacks and keeps spawning monsters. I had to use two invulnerable potions to beat it (I probably could have beaten it without them if I had waited a little, but I chose to destroy the Shades as soon as possible, which means I hadn't even the Divine Host spell yet).
  7. ...And you need 16 tool use to turn off one of the machines in Rentar's second keep. By the way, you don't really need Demonslayer if you use Pole Weapons. And even if you use Melee Weapons, it shouldn't be too useful. Although I suppose it could help when fighting Rentar, since she's vulnerable to Repel Spirit and all that demon/undead-killer stuff.
  8. Let's see... Armor : Emerald Chestguard - Nociduas's Lair (Slith Lands near Cotra). Pole Weapon : Jade Halberd - Darkside fortress under Fort Saffron. Melee Weapon : Radiant Soulblade - Darkside fortress in Erika's Ruins. You need to beat Dorikas before you can get it, though. The blade is in a box behind the portal. EDIT : Schrodinger's FAQ says that the Radiant Shortblade does more damage. I prefer the Radiant Soulblade, though, due to its bonus to parry. To get it, complete Crewl's quest to kill Annatolia (in Bargha). To get the quest, you must first speak with Annatolia, and tell Crewl she wants to kill him. Bow : Heartstriker Bow - Dark Lands, guarded by a bunch of pylons that will come to life when you get too close to it (the bow itself is in a pile of dirt, your party needs to have 25 nature lore to uncover it; keep in mind you don't have to concentrate this skill on one person).
  9. Find Philip in Fort Monastery and complete the quest he gives you. Then talk to Goodman Thorious again and tell him you helped Philip. He'll give you another quest. You should be able to see his other son and his daughter now.

And yeah, Assassins are indeed not much compared to the Dark Shade of Venom (especially since you can't kill it right now). I think the Red Shade of Hatred is even worse, though.
  11. Hint : Once you find yourself in the city, 'hug the wall' until you reach another stairway (this path does not involve getting noticed by the Dark Shade of Venom or by the Almarian people), which will take you to another part of the sewers. Here you'll find a path that will take you out of Almaria. You'll have to fight a bunch of Assassins, though.

Although I'd probably still tell her first, first because it's a bit more honorable, second because Spire already is quite easy to destroy, so let's not make it any easier, shall we?
  13. Quote: Originally written by *i: Outside of the final dungeon, before the entrance, just north of the field of pylons head to the far west. You need very high nature lore to get it. 25 nature lore, in fact. With the Heartstriker bow, I was able to do more than 100 damage to some enemies such as mutant lizards, and I could do 30-50 damage to some very tough enemies.
  14. Wait till you get the Heartstriker Bow (the Ebony Bow an Eliavri's Bow are good too). I used a slith halberdier and a nephil archer, and when I got the Heartstriker, my nephil archer did more damage than my slith halberdier. The Heartstriker Bow seems to be the most powerful weapon in the game.

Still, if it attacks her too quickly, keep casting haste on the priestess and slow on the shade. Haste yourself too. If it still attacks the priestess and she hasn't enough time to summon shades, try sacrificing your warriors. This will give her some more time (and I think she may be able to summon more shades if there are less members in your party). Kelandon : Thanks for the info. I suspected TM had done it, but I wasn't sure whether he cheated or not.

Well, I got the shade down to 1 HP without cheating in the demo. Not sure if anybody else had tried it before. Basically, I tricked the Black Shade into entering the Temple. I then hasted the Priestess, who summoned Divine Shades and Vengeful Shades. I hasted those Shades too, and then kept pounding the Shade with repel spirit, bolt of fire, and acid spray. I would have killed were it not for the fact that it is completely unkillable until you get the onyx scepter (its healing spell only restores a limited amount of HP, all you have to do is damage it faster than it can heal). Oh well, at least I know there's a trick to kill it if I ever have problems beating it in the full version.

  19. Actually, I remember someone saying (writing) that the A4 demo was way smaller than one fifth of the game.
  20. I can't seem to be able to view the poll window either. EDIT : I just noticed that the second part of my post could be badly misunderstood, so I deleted it.

Oh well, I'll be having enough fun snorkelling around that I probably won't think of A4. Too much. Um, I was kinda joking about that advertisement thing. You weren't really advertising anyway.
