In the Tower of Magi quest for the demon, just acid spray him and leave the room. When he summons friends, a few lightning sprays will clear the area. Nothing that you cab't do after the Eastern Gallery.
Dispel barrier spell is useful for going back and finishing the Honeycomb. There are some great items behind that barrier. Also in Fort Dranlon and a few other places are a few more items that aren't accessible to piercing crystals.
You can play the game without it, but you miss out on the extras.

Jeff's saving that for GF4 after reading Delicious Vlish's use of Terror Vlish to stun opponents. Drayk will only decrease for PC's creations if we get them.Quote:Hmm... Why Dryak and Vlish don't decreased?

I'm still grinding through GF2 so I haven't voted. I like agents except for having to creep forward in combat mode all the time to get first strike, At least as a shaper I get to wait until contact with the enemy usually. I'm still trying out different creations, but seeing them stronger than most of my characters is annoying. Shapers can be fun if you have missle weapons skill.

It's an attempt to balance out the game to counteract whatever great ideas players come up with. After the thread on Bullseye Shaper you can expect that missle weapons will be less effective.
Players were dealing out too much damage so the weapons are weaker. I think crystals will go next since they have high damage and low action points. You can get two attacks without hasting and even more hasted and with action point bonus items get up to 5 attacks, Pile them on and even a shaper can clear the field like a high level agent.

Just start with a minor disaster that traps a remote village from the rest of Avernum. Your party was "volunteered" to find a new route back to the main cave system. You have a base and can explore through different levels. Give lots of false routes and side trips that take you away from the desired route.

Customized spellcaster that has mage 5/priest 5 gives you more free spells at the start. It really depends upon what your total party will look like.
In Avernum 1 you could customize a mage to start with lightning spray and have a few priest levels. Then max out a priest to get I think unshackle mind (maybe mass healing) and a few mage levels. This would give greater attack strength and healing ability than a pre-made party.
In Avernum 2 and later there was a limit on the highest level spells that you could start with no matter what your level.

I was a little tired at the time or I would have logged back on and completed my comment on ncp. The next line would have been:
Characterized by poor spelling and being hard to understand because of it.
I spend a lot of time going back and editing out typos. If you know how slow a typist I am you understand why I hate having to read them in other people's posts.
Actually in you Google "noobie" you will find it is used as a word and is considered interchangeable with "newbie" in meaning. There are also a few websites that use it.Quote:While we're on the attack, "noobie" isn't a word. Newbie or noob, you n00b. -
You can also learn it in Harston up in the Giant Lands, but you need Dispel Barrier to get to the spellbook (irony).
-
I had the same problem in Exile 3, with the timed event. I started over just to get it the second time and pace myself.
-
ncp as in non-character person, you know noobie.

Move next to the door and click on it should work.

There are a few other routes depending upon what you have done. The quickest is to use the Orb of Thrani if you have found ot to fly around the Spire Fortress. There are also routes going by Fort Emerald and passing east and then north to Spire. I don't remember having any trouble delivering the box and I don't remember the rune.

Actually in GF1 missle weapons skills are supposed and do add damage with crystals. I raised the damage for Icy Crystal from around 40 to near 100 by going from 3 to 10 in missle weapons. Swarm crystals went to near 200 which meant that 2 of them would kill almost anything in 6 action points, I just used them for the Guarded Dock to see what different endings would be like.
-
I found in GF1 that raising missle weapons to 10 made all the crystals more effective. As an agent they did about 2/3 the damage of battle magic spells in less action points. The swarm crystals that you could make in the mines were a very effective way to remove groups and more likely to hit than searing orbs.
I will try this when I run a shaper because I want to do more than direct traffic for creations and power them up.

They may be related, but it's not likely that they came from Sucia Island. They are more likely related to those on the mainland.

There are different Obeyer endings. If you use the Geneforge there is war. Depending upon whether you destroy the Geneforge or not there will be more like you or just you versus the Shapers. Either way the Awakened do well, the Obeyers are cannonfodder for the war, and the Takers go into hiding after getting worn down.
If you destroy the Geneforge without using it then the Shapers destroy the Sholai who used cannisters and the Takers. The Rebel Sholai get to go home in peace and become trading partners. The Awakened go into hiding and the Obeyers come out on top.
There are more versions that I haven't tried.

I'm hoping for Erika's shade to come back with another major quest and a series of challenges on the way to visit her. After all she was the most powerful one down in Avernum.

He is Ornk Lord. Think Slith Avatar level from Avernum in terms of power. Even the rogue ornks are nasty if you let them swarm you. I got nailed twice before I defeated him.
-
I nailed the worms with my singleton. I think I used area spells like divine retribution and lightning spray while hasted and blessed. Just keep blasting until you've cleared the whole area before leaving combat mode to loot.
-
That problem with demons was addressed in Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Ed. They changed the names but kept the monsters.Quote:"I'm picturing an upset parent, who probably thinks Avernum is against their religion."
I loved the Knights of the Dinner Table issue that had the Dieties manual withdrawn for having God's stats included. The players had a copy that had the information and were calculating if their characters could beat God. Now that would be a real problem. -
The only gripe I had about A2 that was fixed in A4 was in combat you no longer needed to delay your actions. Being the last person to cast haste/slow makes no difference in A4.
A2 has a better plot and is more fun to play. Even knowing the plot from Exile 2 it was a blast. I did wish the final battle with Garzahd was a good as E2.

I just finished Geneforge 1 and was wondering if anyone has played the game without using a single cannister or just 1 cannister from the first 2 areas?
I can see a guardian being able to get through even on Torment. An agent can get by with just the firebolt cannister or wait to the Ruined School since he is almost a guardian in fighting ability. A shaper would have trouble with just a fyora as the only creation type.
If anyone has done it what did you play and what level of skill? Also is there a different ending?

You might have one or two spells that are exclusive to a class. I doubt Jeff would want to do even that much extra work. Most people probably wouldn't use the extra spells unless there was a way to break the game with them.

Why I did not like Geneforge 3

I didn't like the dialog choices, maybe because it reminded me of the Anama from Exile3/Avernum 3. While you might agree with some of them, the actions of each group left something to be desired.
I would like to see more of an effect for stealing. I know it's easy to steal without being seen, but they should notice the thefts eventually. You could build up a reputation of being in the area where they occur and merchants will raise their prices to compensate for losses in the towns after a certain number occur in the game. Since most thefts are at the beginning or are for major items it will make your actions more thoughtful.
I like the idea that your actions decide your alignment with the groups. It will be fun to find the new path.
