  1. After you get to the Eastern Gallery you start to pick up named blades: Flaming, Oozing, .... So pretty much any two will be great except the flaming blade doesn't do as much against sliths with their fire resistance.
  2. No, but some things have complementary skills and stats. It's been a long time but increasing dexterity would help with traps, I think. The hardest parts with a singleton is you can't carry all that loot and if you get too many negative buffs.
  3. Once Annatolia is dead you can't get the quest from the Spire priestess. The gates you are talking about only open if you are doing the kill Farrar quest for Melanchion and have killed Farrar. This gives you a safer route out of Bargha. There is also some minor loot out of sight. There is nothing to stop you from leaving the way you came into town. The guards and one other will attack, the townspeople will flee, but that only means that there is no one left to go hostile when you loot the place.
  4. The first is southeast of Fort Draco just east of the group guarding the main bridge south of the fort. You can bypass the camp using the tunnels or approach from the east. The slaves are in a building in the southeast corner. The second is southeast of Formello in the southeast corner of the zone. Approach from the north to avoid since the area south of Formello is heavily guarded. Save frequently here because this fight is tricky.
  5. All the work went into graphics and setting up the game engine. Content was the last thing added after coming up with the basic plot. Examples are the boat near the lighthouse that was originally meant to allow you to travel to Ash Island for more quests and there was another quest from the goblin living in the bee cave that only exists in the script but can't be accessed in play. Book 2 has the same flaw that getting the game engine to work is first priority, removing bugs is second, and content is still being added less than a month from release.
  6. You have to be charming for it to be easy.

Dikiyoba. The teleportation part was easy, its when two objects teleport to the same spot at the same time. The resultant explosion of two objects occupying the same space has been a major delay. Also the cleaning crew is on strike demanding more pay for removing the mess of all those bloody parts when they run live subject tests.
  9. Lightning spray has a separate chance for each target, but area effect spells seem to work better.
  10. I never saw any mention of an editor or cheat codes in either game. It's easy to make a horrible character and then get killed by the first rat or monster that you encounter. Fighter types have a bad time since they can easily miss. Spellcasters can always hit but easiliy run out of mana (spell energy).
  11. You will get a message that Seleeass will be upset about the Cultists' damage to the scrolls when you find the right ones.
  12. Sorry. You will be happy to know that the game has been fixed so when you enter a town your walking speed doesn't slow to a slow motion crawl unless you have too many other things running in the background like downloading a video. Game file size for downloading is fast approaching 300 Mb, for those of us still using dialup.
  13. Book 1 has lots of balance flaws. A few levels of hide in shadows is better than invisibility or chameleon to avoid being hit. There are plenty of other problems but it isn't a bad game for a first effort. Very pretty but not much content. Book 2 should finally be out at the end of April/beginning of May. Lots of flaws have been fixed and even more new features especially for fighters. There are now feats at level 10 for weapon skills where you get a special attack. More potions to duplicate spells. You can also set challanges that the game will keep track of to increase experience like requiring food and water, not being able to save near hostile monsters or when severely injured. The game balance seems to be better in that you need to build up skills to get the best results. You still need to get cartography skill to use the automap, but with some practice you can get around without it. You still need a Slartyanalysis to optimize your character build. If you can wait then I would recommend waiting for Book 2.
  14. It's been a few years since I've played Avernum 2, but ... 1. Increase assasination since at higher levels you get a better chance of bonus damage. Anatomy isn't as helpful. Increase your melee skill. 2. Sanctuary was useful only once when I first left the Tower of Magi to give me time to buff. 3. The forums were merged so Avernum 4 and 5 were dumped into the older Avernum Trilogy (A1-3). There wasn't a need back them to mark the games.
  15. Strength helps carry all those arrows once you find them. It doesn't increase missle weapon damage. The arrow merchants are in the towns once you pass back from the Vahnatai lands. It's always a good idea for a fighter to have a melee weapon skill since there are lots of nice once and they do more damage than arrows.
  16. You don't need to reregister the game and get a new key. The registration stays with the computer in a different area. The problem may be in a bad file that will be fixed by downloading a new copy.
  17. You should be able to open the door after you report to Captain Meyhew. There is another door to the Job Board through the barracks to the east and then north. If that fails then download the game again because you have a corrupt file and there may be more problems ahead. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door.
  18. You were supposed to do the quest in Tenevra and ask there about the Crystal Shards. They then open a gate downstairs to the area you want. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. *grumble* Blood thirsty adventures. Always killing the NPCs off before they usefulness is over.
  19. There are switches in both Avernum V and VI that require certain levels of tool use. Most are marked in Synergy's Item List whenever someone finds one that requires more than what a player normally has at that point in the game.
  20. The final banshee that dies should drop the Spectral Falchion, however it's possible that the last version never occurs and therefore it never drops.
  21. UBBThreads will still be there, God help us. This will break all the links within the board so there will be massive dislocation when we return for Strategy Centrals.
  22. In Avernum 5, Kingsley the Chitrach Hunter ate them.

  24. Three is the required number, but since experience drops the higher your party level getting the quest done early means more experience. You can always come back later and kill him for even more.
