  1. Go for the archers since they seem easier to charm with control foe, plus their poison attack will keep working every round.
  2. Or poke around in the containers in the storeroom in that zone and hope a guard doesn't see you.

That was the only fiscal restraint that they understood.
  5. Exile games had area effect spells, but Avernum is down to Cloud of Blades and that has to be cast on a monster or party member. So I found that I had to summon monsters and cast it on them.
  6. What happens is that there is a slow infinite spawn at the south and west gates of Formello. You can clear it down to the spawns, but it's very tedious and you don't gain experience. I did it a few times to map the area and it was never worth the effort.
  7. You have a corrupt game. It happens on all versions and the only thing you can do is download a fresh copy and then see if you have an old save from before the corruption occurred. I don't know if your current game is salvageable. Because the save game file has the corrupted map and item information you won't be able to find anything in the containers. Villainy could be reduced if the institutions had a better screening process.
  9. It's the way the game is coded. Jeff has stated elsewhere that he isn't the best programmer which is why he recycles past code. You can use the "f" command to end combat at the end of your turn and save sometimes. Jeff did try to end this abuse. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door.

  11. Once you do enough damage to them then the pylons spend their action regenerating instead of attacking. You only need to weaken the pylon behind the throne to remove Redmark's shield, however the other pylon attacks are too irritating to leave them alone.

  13. You need to place it outside the gate or door that you use to enter the area for your side. There is too much to carry away in loot so you need to shift it to the entrance area before finishing the quest.
  14. First time. Summoned spawned like that are meant to make you leave and not be an endless source of experience.
  15. Avernum 4 through 6 were based on the Geneforge game engine so there will some overlap between the way they are coded.
  16. Save files and the game preference file (including your registration) should be unaffected by over writing the game. But why take a chance when you can spend a minute to back them up.
  17. Jeff changed Avernum 6 to allow for slow repopulation of areas with monsters. It does help with collection quests when you need a certain monster.
  18. Original Nethergate had a unique leveless system where you got skill points for a fixed amount of experience with enough random monster encounters that allowed you to raise characters easily. You could make some interesting characters and do things not possible in the remake. The remake has more to do and one quest is switched from the Romans to the Celts.
  19. No, all Gladwell cares about is the one room he asked about. All the rest of the loot is yours.
  20. Leave the area and travel around enough and the red construct will eventually reappear. So will all the other constructs that you destroyed in the first test. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door. Randomizer (the US version)
  21. Sorengard is in the southwest part of Patrick's Tower working on a sentinel. Archmage Solberg is the one that left. You're welcome.
  22. Some of the weapon damages were changed from earlier versions of the game.
  23. A lot of your complaints were fixed in later Geneforge games, but Jeff doesn't like to go back and make major changes to an existing game interface. Someday he will make an updated version of the Geneforge games to run on the current generation of computers and the interface will be updated to something more like Geneforge 5. It will have a little new content, but the main storyline and zones will still be there. The combat system will probably be more like Geneforge 4 and 5.
  24. Plus there is a slight random element in awarding experience even for quests. I saw that when I had to reload after doing a collection quest and one character just leveled up the first time and was a point shy the second time.
  25. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door. The older games had a printed hint book. Avernum 6 was the first to do a download pdf hint book. The best part about the hint book is maps with key locations marked on them. The rest is a walk through for the game with information and hints on how to do the quests. I don't know how much you can edit the maps. Cheat codes are given near the end, but you can get that information here too. Also a list of spell locations and crafters. Except for the maps pretty much all the information is available here and Synergy's Item List includes more information on the caches, traps, and locked items.
