A6 - possible spoiler melanchions hoard
Randomizer replied to ĐªгŦĦ Єяŋϊε's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
At least in Avernum 6 there aren't those slowing golems. -
The west circle is where you need to stand. There is a spot slightly east of the center that you need to stand a character to summon shades that will attack Nociduas. Destroy his shades to speed things up. Your summoned monsters do full damage against him.

It's no longer too slow even for older computers. All weapon skills now have feats after you get to level 10 in a skill with each weapon doing something else special. Examples are swords get an extra damaging attack and all attacks that round are riposted. Cleaving weapons can do a sweeping blow that attacks adjacent targets. Bludgeoning weapons reduce the armor of the opponent. Piercing weapons like daggers get two swings. Bows do a focused shot for extra damage. Thrown weapons can be volleyed to hit adjacent targets. More skills and you have to seriously train in them to get the benefits. For instance hide in shadows will make monsters not see you, but you need between 10 and 15 levels in most places. Also this is a great way to rob people without getting caught. Bigger world so it takes about 40 hours to see everything. More quests and areas are supposed to be added on to the game at a later date so the game will get better. More potions so Alchemy is really useful this time. The game keeps track of challenges so you can get extra experience and better treasure for restricting how you play and get a final score to boast about when you finish. Overall much better than Book 1. Edit - I just spent two months beta testing it on an old Mac iBook with a 133 GHz CPU so I know that you can play it without the usual slow motion crawl that Book 1 had when you hit a town. You can still have problems if you have too many other programs open at once especially streaming YouTube at the same time. The game is much better even with the few remaining minor bugs. You can wait two weeks and an update version will be out when the Mac and Linux versions are released.

It probably won't be First Expedition, but some time after the Empire starts using the portal to send troublemakers down to Avernum and before the establishment of Micah as king.

I never saw that one. -
Everyone else has more experience with Shaping than you so they can do it during combat.

Actually Melanchion only reacts if you enter his audience chamber. If you are done talking with him then he won't personally react, but his followers do. -

Avernum and Geneforge have different scales for zones so they don't quite match up. The seamless Avernum maps have all that blank space that you get to skip over in Geneforge. -

Eschalon has it's own problems with simultaneous movement. Book 2 is better, but if you have an old (low CPU speed) computer than you can see the game slow down as the AI plots out the actions of all the monsters and NPCs. Towns are a good place to see this problem and all the NPCs are doing is usally walking back and forth. -
You pretty much want a fighter with mental magic so you can use daze. You should have a range attack since a few places get nasty in melee but are a cakewalk with missles.

I think Avernum 3 has the largest demo. You can easily spend a month at your rate exploring before you have to put up some money. Avernum 5 has the smallest and can be done in about 15 hours. Enjoy exploring. -

It happens quite often on this side of the pond. Easiest way for the side in control of the polling system to keep the other side from getting votes. Certain areas are given fewer ballots so there will be a limit on the number of opposition votes and they can always blame logistics later for the shortage.

I'm shocked that you would suggest such a dangerous idea. Sorry, that was a pun waiting to happen.

The problem is the way the game is coded to have the monsters' actions done in order that they are listed in an array that represents all the monsters in that zone. The AI decides upon a monster's action, checks the pathfinding if needed, and then calls for the graphics commands to do the monster's actions. That's why it takes so long to get through a round. It would take recoding the game engine to speed things up. -

Use the keyboard commnand u to illuminate switches. There are plenty of things that look like switches that aren't. This isn't an easy one to do because of the hardness to find the right one. The two that are important are near the ladder and one west of the ogre statue that you have to be near to even see.

No on the transporters. Eventually he won't be able to flee and you can finally kill him. Also he will run out of soldiers. This is one of those fights where you need to stock up before starting it. The Darkside Loyalist base in the Abyss is another. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door.

Just download the demo or reload from the compressed download file and you will have all the scripts again. The registration is stored in a separate location and is unaffected.

There should be one barrier on the south side that requires less than the others. Synergy's Item List in Strategy Central lists known magical barriers that require higher levels of spellcraft and mage levels to remove them. Magical efficiency doesn't do anything.

Avernum games have a reputation that needs to be a certain level to get a quest.
-
You usually need level 1 in a spell in order to get level 3. Some things that might be why you didn't get the rewards: Did you get the quest from the Mayor first? Find and turn in the evidence.

The door is an opening in the wall in the southwest part of the ruined tower. At least it should open allowing you access to a chest since it doesn't always work.
-
To get to Erika's Tower you have to pass through the Darkside Loyalist base below the Wild Abyss Woods. The button is to: Healing Elixir (2), Wisdom Crystal. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door.

Avernum 6: super secret codes ?
Randomizer replied to Shaper Twilight's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
reload is a leftover from beta testing to allow a player to reload a save game to run on a different version without having to leave the zone. It does reduce or remove some buffs.
