  1. After lots of complaints about waiting to recharge mana to cast a spell, the recharge rate is better and casting a higher level version of a spell takes slightly less mana. So a level 6 version of a tier 3 spell takes 49 instead of 60. I never had too much trouble with magic users except finding something to do while waiting to recharge in Book 1.
  2. Asimov wrote the most including Opus 100 and Opus 200 to quote his own works. So you usually can find something that you like in his works. Heinlein was better in his middle days before he got in the habit of recycling material with new characters. Or his earliest formula sci-fi. Clarke had some good ideas, but the stories themselves aren't as good as the ideas.
  3. Ornks have a chance of dropping meat when they die. Challenge game is creating ornks and seeing how long you can keep them alive.
  4. Edmund gives extra reward after 5 bags and another at 9 that really nice. He does give the most experience per bag of anyone that asks for them in bulk. There are two places which just want one.
  5. Once you have the quest to see Melanchion from King Starrus you need to head west from the Northern Avernum pylon past the giant village through the giant lands until you reach a gate. With the quest you will be allowed through in Melanchion's lands and you keep going west and then south at the chasm into his keep. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Hopefully Book 3 won't take so long, but I'm sort of worried since there is supposed to be a Blades type editor to allow players to create new content.
  7. Avernum 6 is definitely based upon the Avernum 4 map.

There are 4 others in the series, but they rarely get reprinted anymore. Nice story if you like historical novels. Lots of details.
  9. I think this bug is coming from file corruption in general on the hard drive and not from the cheat codes.
  10. Between A5 and A6 Jeff changed to OpenGL for graphics. That makes a big difference for some players.
  11. Jeff wants people to be able to finish the game. So he made it that just do two and then you can quit. Jeff did make the final portal battle harder after some testers just stood there and hit the space bar ignoring the fight as too easy.
  12. Battle frenzy no longer gives the bonus damage it did in Avernum 5. With enough battle fatigue reducing items and blademaster skill you can easily use mighty blow every few rounds and just find other ways to increase AP to get two attacks.

We will have them in the future on whatever comes next to allow mass communication.
  14. Rewards: QUEST 4 - Invulnerable Elixir (2), Knowledge Brew (2), BASIN - Riposte +1 QUEST 3 - Radiant Soulblade (8% Armor, 16-48dmg, +2 Lethal Blow, +2 Quick Action, +3 Parry), BASIN - Lethal Blow +1
  15. There are places in Avernum 2 where you will get information about what happened in Avernum 1. You don't miss anything except the irritation about no quest list. The games can be played without having to do them in order and going backwards can be a pain because of the more primitive features. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. 16. The Fort Monastery quest is the gate into Melanchion's Lands on the west edge of the Giant Lands.
  17. This is why you should have multiple saved games. An older save might still be usable.
  18. There are two groups of Abyss Thugs, the first group that attacks you and some more waiting in a camp to the northeast. Those ones are usually neutral. Scout the Gateway refers to the Horned Gate north of Fort Duvno that the slith control. You should have gotten a message when you approach from the southeast or west about turning back because you have the information. Welcome to Spiderweb Software. Please leave your sanity at the door.
  19. Don't forget you can buy in Dharmon blessing from the priest for your entire party in melee, pole, bows and thrown weapons for 3 towards battle disciplines.
  20. Herwin should be in a southwest room that was empty when you first come to Spire.
  21. There is a one in three chance of appearing in each town and the other time he's on the road so you can't find him.
  22. I haven't done the Avernum version, but your problem might be that you didn't complete one of the steps leading up to Rentar within the keep. There are some lasers that must be adjusted on another level.
  23. The coffin is reached by another entrance on the surface leading to a switch to a secret passage.
  24. The difficulty level applies a multiplier to the monster's health and damage. It doesn't change experience or what the monster will do. Canisters in Geneforge 5 affect you less than in the other games. I only found one place where the dialog options were changed and you don't have to do it. Geneforge 4 forces you into combat if you have used too many canisters.

Your weapons are doing damage, but there are wearing out from lots of use.
