Knights of the Dinner Table. issue 168, page 65 had a great review of Geneforge 5 as a neglected game. The reviewer picked up a cheap copy at Gamesgate and really loved all the things you could do and the replayability. Then he went into what most people hate, the graphics that were old 10 years ago and an anceint game engine compared to other games in this genre. This is the problem with Jeff's games. You have got to be willing to play it in order to enjoy it.

Avadon has been update. The graphics are only somewhat out of date instead of extremely out of date. There are now walking animations.

Avadon will run on PowerPC Macs with OS 10.3.9.

Tolkien didn't draw his own cover art. He painted and some of them were later used as cover art. The art used was always from the right book.

The text never states that the Sholai came from a continent, just a place not under Shaper control. They could have come from an island group or large island like Iceland.

Looking at the larger drawing. The left tower has 9 rings at the bottom implying ringwraiths. The right tower does match the description of Orthanc with the top.

I remember the guy using it would call companies to ask if their products were compatible with Radio Shack computers. After they stopped laughing, they would say they never bother to test and asked to call back if their products did work with it.

Using cover art is a bad idea. The publisher just grabs the closest image that matches the title. Tolkien complained for years about weird art that Ballantine used for the early paperback US editions of the LotR. The cover you show Slarty looks more like Minas Ithil (Tower of the Moon) on the left and Mians Anor (Tower of the Sun) on the right, the original names of Minas Morgul and Minas Tirith before Sauron's forces captured Minas Ithil. That makes the figures of the moon and sun over the two towers.

Phoenix, Arizona got hit with a freak hailstorm in October. Two inch (5 centimeter) sized pieces tore through the valley. I'm still getting ads from companies offering to repair damage.

Jeff finally got to see how overpowered the spells were in the original.

Some exploits that work are: Use spells and missile attacks when a monster is spine shielded. That's why you are taking damage doing melee attacks. There was a message about him taking on the aspect of a beast. Use charm (control foe) from spell and scroll to turn his summoned creatures against him. You don't get experience from killing the summoned creatures so make them work for you. Delicious Vlish always recommended doing this since their summoned monsters were usually better than yours. Summon some creatures of your own to help you. At least they can take the damage instead of you. Use potions and spells to haste your party.

Only in Avernum 6 does it pay to increase endurance early in the game. All the other games give you only a few extra health points. The real jump happens after your characters are level 10 and each extra endurance point gives you a noticeable increase.

Based upon my experience, Jeff takes about a week to send out notices after he closes applications.

Before we switched to UBB Threads the Mod Board was visible. Then we could pop in and leave random messages to make the rest of you think that intense discussions about you were going on and make you worry. Now you can't know how absolutely dead the place has become.

That would be telling if they ever existed. Some are no more.

The 10-cap means that the bonus per level you get for increasing a skill decreases after 10 levels and decreases again after each 10 more levels.

iPhoneOS Port
Randomizer replied to wereguy2's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
There are slight differences in the way the operating systems work and compiling the same program on different platforms doesn't always produce the same results. It's more that Jeff doesn't want to put in the effort to make his programs run on more platforms. He makes more money using the time for a new game than the extra customers for another platform. -
Try a used computer store. They might still have some older Windows versions that came with the computers they are selling.
