  1. 419. Aodaria - Creates a herd of beautiful wild (but not rogue) ponies running free across the plains? Aodare, the Shaper loyalist from Geneforge 2 + Daria from the show Daria. The clue is a quote from the first episode of the show (slightly modified to reflect Aodare's firm beliefs). Dikiyoba.
  2. 418. Threnodious Funk - Lexicographer who doesn't want to see the light Funk & Wagnalls is a defunct publisher of reference books, such as dictionaries. A lexicographer works on creating dictionaries. Being in a funk means being sad or depressed. A threnody is a song or poem of mourning. (Edit: Funk is also a genre of music.) 441. Annal Bug - What a dame duplicates when she wants to be surrounded by history Annals are historical records. The name and clue together reference Dame Annals: Slarty's best nickname of all time. A software bug might let you do all sorts of things, including duplicating items (in this case, annals). Dikiyoba.
  3. 430. Moiré Foxfire - A phosphorescent tapestry Foxfire is a type of phosphorescence in mushrooms. Moire/moiré is a textile. 445. Brock Bottom - Gym leader fails to save his mindless charges A pun on rock bottom. Brock is a character from Pokemon: a gym leader who specializes in rock-type Pokemon. Dikiyoba.
  4. I'm going to guess that the explanation for it is the displacer beast from DnD and this thread. And if the explanation isn't that thread, it should be. (Here's to replace the broken one in the old thread.) Dikiyoba gives Triumph one fluffy point for his effort with the Oracle name. It is utterly worthless, but it is fluffy, and who can resist fluffiness?

  8. [Crossposted from CalRef] Attention rebels and recruits! It is time to gear up and take arms against our alien overlords. I am your Commander, and I will lead you into battle and keep you all alive. With reloading of game saves if necessary! The aliens will not be able to resist our mighty chat, nor our chatty might! They probably can't resist our long periods of silence either! Here is our team! As you can see, I am missing some nicknames. If you want come up with some, or suggest any other changes, feel free. I may or may not take them, and will update the album as necessary. PS: Bring supplies. We really need supplies. PPS: Dikiyoba is getting really attached to this hat. Someone find this hat for Dikiyoba in real life.
  9. It's been years since I played it, so I don't remember exactly, but I know that very little was said. There was the "voice that is darkness itself" message and a message to the effect of ending Angierach's power now that you've brought down the leader of the Twelve once you killed her, but that was about it. The rest was left up to your imagination. Dikiyoba.
  10. It's the same key, just reachable in two different ways. Dikiyoba.
  11. Ha, Dikiyoba thought Goldengirl might turn out to be an Empire agent. It was a bit of a stretch, but Dikiyoba remembers her being very quiet when she was a traitor in one of the long-ago witch hunt games.
  12. If you visit Oglai and bring down the barriers before talking to Bon-Ihrno about the Ritual of Welcoming, you can't clear the Vahnatai Ritual quest out of your quest log. It's a bit irritating, but it won't hamper your ability to play the rest of the game. Dikiyoba made that mistake, too.
  13. The last few things, I think. 1. I completed the game twice, but never received the First Rescue medal. I went after the Ornotha Ziggurat soul first both times, in case that's a potential cause. 2. If you fight your way through one of the gray pass checkpoints near Sulfras, it clears out the other one. Dikiyoba doesn't know what happens if you use the pass to go through.
  14. I'm pretty sure I saw Sulfras cast the death curse on easy difficulty. I think she had to be in close proximity to a party member (melee range? A square or two out?) in order to inflict them. Edit: No, wait, she summons shades, and those shades inflict the death curse on whoever they get near. Dikiyoba doesn't remember the fight very clearly, obviously.
  15. Here is a very easy, three-step process for getting through the third guardpost puzzle. It's completely solved for anyone who is completely stuck, but might be too spoilery for anyone who just needs a hint, so proceed at your own risk. Dikiyoba.
  16. Yes, they are in specific locations. Don't worry, you'll find three of them eventually, but not until late in the game. Dikiyoba.
  17. That's weird. Have you tried pulling items out of the junk bag to see if the disappearing items are really there, just not being shown? Dikiyoba just gets a "junk bag full" message and no more items can be put into it.
  18. It's mostly just alternative ways to get around a puzzle and minor loot. Maybe a spell book or two? Offhand, Dikiyoba can't think of anything important (besides Thompson's key, which you have) that you need Move Mountains for.
  19. Here's a screen shot with all four quest books highlighted. The ones in orange are the indices that must be read before you can access the books in red. Dikiyoba recommends you recheck the indices first and then try the red books again. If you do that but still can't read one of the red books, then you may have a weird bug.
  20. TU means Tool Use. In order to activate the hidden switch, the individual pushing it has to have 8 points of tool use. Dikiyoba.
  21. Wilvron-Bok doesn't give you Move Mountains. Move Mountains is in the lower level of the Serpent Cult. You'll need the Blessed Athame (from the Halls of Chaos in Waterfall Warrens) in order to read it. Talking to Quinby should open a hole in the wall for you to escape through. Dikiyoba.
  22. Mod updated to version 2! Everything should be in the first post, but just in case you are feeling lazy: Changes, version 2 1. Fixed Waterfall Warren Sliths 2. Changed intro text 3. Changed text related to looting the shrine in GIFTS cave 4. Tor now recognizes you from Fort Avernum 5. Infernal in Angierach now has a name 6. Mother Clarisse now asks for 500 coins to cure the Dread Curse, instead of the erronous 1000. 7. Fixed a variety of typos and odd phrasing 8. Changed frenzying mob pronouns from "it" to "they" (optional; don't copy over the file "mobfrenzy" if you like "it" over singular "they.") --- Things I don't know how to change, version 2: 1. Is there code for checking to see whether there are humans in a party? 2. If anyone can figure out the code to make a poor leather helmet no longer a requirement for entering the starting tunnel in Fort Ganrick, that would be great. 3. Is there any way to make the door in the Barrier (Pyrn's) Tower openable through tool use or a key? 4. Any ideas on the Angierach text boxes? --- Dikiyoba would also like to know who is actually using the mod, and whether any bugs or problems (with the mod) have been found.
  23. If you've "finished" the game, you should have returned all three souls already. The Crystal Souls are found in Ornotha Ziggurat, Angierach, and Pyrog's Lab. Dikiyoba.
  24. So I'm just frustrated with Jeff's handling of Angierach right now. It's one of the more important dungeons in the game, because of the Crystal Soul. It should be creepy and suspenseful. But it's not either of those things. It's just boring and badly done. 1. The Arena battle is way too long. There are loads of monsters with lots of HP but no interesting tricks. So it was just a long, long, boring fight. (At least they couldn't actually kill my party members, because at least it meant I didn't have to redo the fight and get frustrated because of that.) 2. I'm okay with the Twelve becoming the Ten (even though twelve is a cooler number than ten, and it leaves the fortress with an empty corner, and it would have been easy to replace the nagas with two drakes or eyebeasts or some other intelligent magical creature), but why is one of the Ten a random cryodemon with no name when the other nine clearly have names? It's too easy to miss that the cryodemon is actually one of the Ten and not just a random demon the rakshasi summoned, which is what I thought on my first playthrough. Ugh. 3. The text boxes when you approach the living quarters of some of the Ten are all messed up. The Rakshasi have Midori's taunts. Midori has the old naga taunts (plus her own, just outside her chamber). Down the main hallway, the human taunts are too early, being closer to the Crystal Soul chamber than to their chamber. If you approach the humans via the efreet chambers, you don't get human taunts at all. You can also avoid the efreet taunts by going into their room via the human chamber route. 4. Midori is now just some crazy lich. Her motivation? Crazy. Her cruelty? Crazy. Is she evil? No, just crazy. Is she an interesting villain? Not anymore! Was it heroic for my party to slay her? Not really; it's awfully hard to feel good about killing a crazy person. 5. The new text for Quinby is boring. The original stuff is great, telling the party about his torment and helping you escape. But then he's all "I suddenly no longer care that you have avenged me. Look at me fading away!" He was literally flashing red with anger earlier, now he feels nothing? His new responses are out of character. Dikiyoba.
