My thoughts exactly. The prefabricated character types are only for beginners who think they generally know what they want, but don't know how to train them. Always use custom characters because when the skill points used aren't put exactly where you want them, they become effectively useless.

Some more names I use are Michael/Michelle for my Priest-spell caster, Peter, and I also like to keep Aldous sometimes. There's Huckle for my Nephil, Leagare or Kass for my Sliths, and Phaedra. Sometimes it feels like I'm naming children.

Most of them you just wait to go away... webbed you have to pause, confused, charmed, and dumbfounded you wait for or use unshackle mind EDIT: or unshackling crystal, acid, disease, and poison you wait for or use curing spells/potions, slowing, you can wait or use a haste spell/potion, Dumbfounding is really annoying because it's sooo bad on mages and takes the longest to go away.

What about resistance rings/armor? Do the effects of those stack?

I hate it when outdoor monsters just run when you get your level high enough. I like the new system in Avernum where you get to choose whether to fight them or not because of Nature Lore.
