I indeed meant "haec." Sorry for that. Quote: EDIT: And your location doesn't much matter. The proverb is Latin, not English, which means that everyone in Western Europe (or the descendant cultures) uses it to some degree.[/QB] My Latin sentence actually says my main struggle in the proverb. My final point about this matter: I don't know the words and don't have acces to a good dictionary. i suppose you are right though, about living in different countries (what you say in the quote above).

My point is, I can't know what it is, if I don't know it and I don't live in circles where its used. EDIT: Can somebody translate what i wrote in the previous post? (I'm just curious if somebody knows a bit of Latin).

Avernum 1: "Scimitar"
Thralni replied to Archmagus Micael's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
*** Warning: don't read this post because of extreme sarcasme *** Maybe this post is unnesecary, but I will post it anyway, just to irritate everyone. Because Aloreal always puts some important information in his signature and I usually don't read signatures, i may miss the information. So, and I'm trying not to be to offensive, please, if such a thing happens, you maybe could try to not fill up the forum with these messages. In mt eyes, this is spam actually. Maybe this hole message is also spam, but just to say the thing I wanted to say, I wanted to post this message. -
Oh... I'm not English, so how can I know?

EDIT: Tell me if I'm wrong here, but the translation should be something like: "de gustibus (does this word exist in latin?) shouldn't be spoken about." My English isn't so good, so I may have made a mistake in the English. EDIT 2: Oh... Thuryl got in before me, so just discrd the previous EDIT.

Avernum 1: "Scimitar"
Thralni replied to Archmagus Micael's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Although I only played the demo, I've read enough walktrouhgs to say, that if you don't join them, you can't finish the game. -
Keep working, it looks really good! (Is it just me or have't you been here for some time, I didn't see you.)

A Question about the Slith and Nephilim
Thralni replied to Slp006's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Why put it in your signature? and why starting with Aloreal (or something)? Does it have some hidden message which a new comer like me doesn't understand? -
After reading this stroy before my post, i think i can say that there three things I always liked in avernum and probably will never see again in a RPG: It is relaxing in a way that you don't have to be ready for attacks all the time, because one thing you know for sure: I you don't take your turn, the enemy also wouldn't take his turn. So if you are just walking in a dungeon and you see that in front of you this haakai is blocking the way, you can be sure it wouldn't come running at you. It will only move when you move. You can explore the world in your own tempo and you can explore the dungeons in your preffered way. In geneforce you have to explore the dungeons in a certain, way and you can't really choose. the third thing is the graphics of Avernum. I'm hooked on that sort pf graphics. I just find it more fun then all the beautiful good graphics and the good motions of the characters. Give me the old fashioned way. i don't like the Exile graphics because i do like the 3D world. It will take some time until I start understanding the world of geneforce. but thanks for the advice, I will try geneforce 1.

Thanks, that's good to know. I hope I will master it soon, because I have trouble playing it after Avernum. What I can see though, is that it just doesn't atract me as Avernum atracts me.

A Question about the Slith and Nephilim

First off: were is the thirs reason? I most things i agree with you. I only find it very unimaginitive, all these humanoids. -
Yes, I have two. The second creation however wasn't created by me, but it was a guardian whom I asked do join me, and he did. does he also take up essence?
-
can't you get it in Exile 3? it thougth actually you could. I don't have it though.
-
I'm new to geneforce, and i don't understand why my shaper has only 6 essence. before, when I started, he had about 30. Now he doesn't recharge to something more then 6, also when I'm at a pool that should recharge me. What should i do?

I only know about boats going on water and waterfalls, nothing else. Lava would be quite cool, I gues, but I never tried it.

Hintbook for AV 1.
Thralni replied to Soltedas's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
I tried it myself a couple of times, but it didn't do anything useful. I also read in several walkthrougs that it doesn't really do anything useful. -
Hintbook for AV 1.
Thralni replied to Soltedas's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
I don't have the hintbook, but I can tell you that natural mage hasn't got whatsoever of an effect on priests. -
Quote: Originally written by Exterior Monologue: In similar confined areas, you can use ranged weapons to take out enemy archres and casters even when they're buried in their allies and can't be reached for melee annihilation. OK, so this is were i use my archers for in Avernum. In exile I use my casters.

Help Finding Empire Brooches in Aver 1
Thralni replied to sco50000's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
With the spiders I assume you mean the GIFTS. they are north from the big Nephilim castle at the edge of the map. thy have a cave there. Its also west from fort Draco. when you get there, find the spider chief and talk to him about some mission. You get a quest to free a baby spider (or was it an eggsac?). When you did that, He will let you into a cave were empire soldiers were trapped. there is the brooch (Or am I confused with avernum 2, were you find in their cave a red empire pass?). EDIT: Actually, if you keep having trouble with the brooches, there are many websites who have wakthroughs. Just look at the "neat stuff" section of the spiderweb homepage. -
A Question about the Slith and Nephilim
Thralni replied to Slp006's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
Quote: Originally written by Thuryl: Um, I'm not sure what you mean. They're not "projections", Just look at the similarities between the sliths, Nephilim and humans. They all look very the same. they walk on two legs, also eat mostly human food, they use Nephilim. So why can't they wear clothes. Its almost the same story as the aliens: How do we imagine aliens? We give them two legs, two arms an head and two huge eyes. they also have clothes. That's what I mean with projections. The human fantasy is not really developed, you know. it takes some time until you find a writer or director who doesn't see aliens like this. they are just a sort of projections of the human race, modified in some way. the other monsters, like rats and the like we know. Thet are just three times as big. this probably all sounds philosifical, but I think that's a reason which I would accept for this question. -
I myself haven't really done anyhting with floors (although I will do it), but if you work on a Windows, Don't you have to make a bmp file and give it a number like this: G(number).bmp? They work exactly like terrain types. Are you sure you made a correct script? I also had an error like this, but it was on my Mac. if you made a resource file, the Windows doesn't use it. That's what you have to make for the Mac. For windows just the bmp file a mentioned above. If the program crashes whenever you try to use the floortype, according to my experience it definetly has something to do with the scenario's datascript. if there's an error, the editor wouldn't recognize the graphic ans dometimes even quit. EDIT: As others said before me: Don't put the graphics in the game's resource files. make the bmp file i mentioned (but cut all the white around the graphic! or just move it to the upper left corner) and on Mac make an editional resource file. Both (bmp and resource) have to go in the scenario folder that YOU made for your OWN scenario, just like all the .txt files.

A Question about the Slith and Nephilim
Thralni replied to Slp006's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
I don't think they have clothes because warmth or something like that. i think, because the sliths and Nephilim are mainly human like creatures, only they have other skins, like fur. maybe they are bigger or smaller, but actually they are just projections of humans in an other identity. because humans wear clothes, These human projections should have it to. re Byte?: I think that that's indeed a part of the puzzle why they wear clothes, but that they just wear clothes because of the reason I stated above. -
Thanks to you i got a very good idea for a new quest for the old man to give. Thanks very very VERY much!
