  1. so playing on Vista is an option? What steps would one need to take to get it on Vista???
  2. If you hate hitting the (U)se key everywhere just as much as walking into walls everywhere and are also not fond of eyestrain you could just edit the rightmost two graphics in the Avernum 5 Files/Graphics/G1305.BMP file so that the various "hidden wall switches" stand out visually... Rumor has it some pillars and like objects may also, rarely, be switches...
  3. If anyone is interested I made a complete map of the surface [14x12 grid of 256x256 pixels]. I do not have time to make one of the subsurface/dungeon layer. Ideally someone could use/tweak this map to make a fully annotated and interactive walkthru/website/helper app. <hint> I can't attach it here apparently and I don't have any bandwidth or time to setup a site to host the map but I can email it to someone here who does... <hint> For purposes of getting help/taking notes/giving precise information I recommend using the shift+d 'location' command (glad to see its still there) which returns a grid position and your current subgrid position as well as the equivalent overall (global) position. The northwest-most grid is (X,Y) = (0, 0) and the southeast-most grid is (13,11). Those two particular grid squares are not used -- about 30 grid squares are not used as Jeff elected to leave them empty. The biggest glitch cartographically speaking is east of the broken bridge in (5,4) but alas thats game designers/implementers license for you. Another useful command for mapping is 'portal' - I tried this one on a whim and what do you know it works!
  4. Okay so it follows a certain script for them no matter what you try to do or how lucky you may get (or cheat even). That's what I was trying to find out, thanks a bunch.
  5. Okay, you may be able to say there are some slight spoilers coming up in this message, but they involve what happens at the very start of the game so it's not really much of a spoiling Anyway... At the beginning of the game, I'm wondering if it is at all possible to get through the starting areas with both your partner apprentices still alive? Is there any way at all to get them to get through alive and make it to the first "town" with you, or are they programmed to attack certain monsters and die absolutely on the way? If it is possible to get them to live, does it affect the story or text much at all?
  6. oops.... my bad. I had two of the pieces already anyway!! it's a good thing I asked this question as 'guest' Cheers
  7. Hi there, I've now finished the game twice, and pretty thoroughly exlpored all areas, but I haven't managed to get into the lower(inner) levels of Gazak-Uss... is it possible?
