Ineffable Wingbolt (11/17)

  1. Quote: viii. I plan to include full keyboard support. You'll be able to target and do talking with the keyboard. My favorite upgrade.
  2. I too missed the outdoors. Wandering around as a lonely pixel on a screen of tiny symbols. MAde you feel that avernum was a really big cave, the caverns were something to behold. And it was different. Now the game has too much of the "sameness" feel, the outdoors and the villages are too similar in how you explore them and discover Avernum.
  3. Quote: Okay, maybe we should have revivals but make the consequences greater, i just really hated it in A4 when i hit the cave slimes, died, went back to priest, killed another, died, went back to priest, and so on until they're all dead... it just makes for boring, unrealistic gameplay... Perhaps try playing to avoid having to use revival. And, if you do die simply REFUSE to revive your lost member. FOcus on your strategy, why are YOU having to use revive so often. Are you simply hacking as many monsters as you can until you lose a party member, or are you looking for a strategy which will allow you to win the battle without a lost member? Hmmm... Edit: Crypto, I wasn't being sarcastic, but re-reading my post I wasn't being clear. My point was to rationalize the options, controlling gameplay from the designer (roguelike) by limiting when and how to restart or by turning that aspect over to the player's control. And then offering some justification about why you might choose option B. Of course, both game types tend to have partial solutions built into them to deal with the potentially catastrophic loss of a character - but I perefer games that let me control when and how I deal with such events.
  4. No revivals? How about no resaves. The game automatically saves at certain points and only allows you to reload from that point forward. Why? To prevent people from "cheating" the game. It's a game, meant to be played for personal enjoyment. That's why the editors are fun to use, experimenting with different things and messing around. If you choose to play without re-animation good on you but the reality of gameplay is that many people do not prefer that system. As a commercial product one doesn't want to limit the audience - at the same time as staying true to one's integrity as a designer/artist. For me it's a little like having to eat food/rest. This did little for me in terms of game play except to cause me annoying pauses in gameplay. The only time it was useful was when I was going through a dungeon and part of the difficulty/complexity lay in completing it without being able to re-energize. This meant being careful in battle and judicious use of potions/spellpoints. If that wasn't relevant then the need to rest become academic.
  5. Quote: What about a more realistic version, where the Celtic warriors were all completely in the buff, and just wearing woad? That's EXACTLY how I play the game!
  6. Kel: Quote: Wow. I'm actually excited about Spidweb games again. I was mostly sticking around for BoA, but GF4 has gotten such good comments on the boards, and Nethergate 2.0 sounds like enough of a good thing, and A5 sounds so promising, that I'm genuinely looking forward to playing these games. It was getting kinda depressing in there around GF3 and A4, but I like the way things are turning now. You know, I've never actually played any of the GF games. Perhaps I should. I did do the Nethergate demo, but didn't buy the game (and regretted it enuf to almost do so, but now I will wait for the new version). Yaa for BoA.
  7. Quote: Yes. The intentional irony. Thanks for ruining the joke by pointing it out. Many a statement by me has been taken literally and resulted in offense. Glad to see others suffering the same fate. Crash and burn I say. Quote: Good, i failed English class. For a really, really, short post do I have to use spell check? I hate using it. Obviously the answer is yes. "I" YDF
  8. As a starting point, all Avernum titles met a minimum standard (for me) of being a fun way to occupy some computer time. That being said, A4 was my least favorite but it certainly didn't arouse feelings of disgust or abhorrence. In fact, the deeper parts of the game I felt were better done than the earlier parts. BOA, well a point of BOA is not to produce a playable game but instead to release the engine to independant script writers to explore and expand the experience. So, if you are limiting yourself to Spidwebs universe you are missing out on the best aspects of the game. I am not a scriptwriter (no time, small desire) but I am thankful that the engine is provided so that others with talent and desire have an opportunity to express themselves in the Avernum world. I am also thankful that they are willing to share their talents with the greater world and provide their creations to us. One look at any of the places where scenarios are rated would quickly provide you proof that you need to explore 3rd party scenarios. Many are rated higher than those that come pre-packaged.
  9. The hardest part of the game was surviving boredom after all the hack and slash. Easy to learn, easy to play and torment does help.
  10. Quote: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From St. Louis -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm embarassed. I hope I never run into you. Ha ha ha
  11. Quote: And I think I've gotten quoting to work but still have to manually type in who I'm quoting. just use cut and paste techniques. When your in the reply window you have your reply box, plus a scrollable window of the topics posts to obtain quotes from/use as a reference for comments.
  12. Ducky? or Dik Dik? perhaps Dikky? I've enjoyed all the games, perhaps BOA the most precisely because scenarios can vary so much in mood and texture.
  13. Quote: Originally written by radix malorum est cupiditas: Completing Castle quests before ToM quests? What kind of wacko order did you play the game in? Not the only one to complete in "wacko" order;;;I too did a little of the same. For me, I was tired of hacking and solving quests, so I went on and explored territory for awhile, and occasionally completed quests from the new territory. After a respite I returned, rejuvenated.
  14. After the third crystal was shattered and I got Rentar to consider fleeing I hit the check box and played for 45 minutes of mind boringly constantly repeating destruction with four characters at level 30/31 stats and still didin't destroy that stupid crystal. Rentar was at one point the whole freaking time.
  15. For worms in tunnels, I haste, stand near where they appear, then pop in view, arrow, poop out of view. When they eventually appear to attack me I am right there with melee. Also, when close they don't firebomb.
