  1. I have to confess I'm just a tiny bit excited by American politics right now. Is there a realistic chance that Palin will win the election, or is this just hyperbole?(Or the nomination of her party for that matter.) It would be epic, but I have much more faith in the American population than to believe she might win. But what do I know!
  2. I googled "Fireland". I found only a WOW Guild or somesuch. And no, I haven't made the trip down into the middle yet.
  3. Here in Iceland spring has been rather cold. I planted an oak, a linden tree, a cherry tree and a red leaved maple last summer and now they've all died in the nIghttime frosts in May.
  4. Cease firing. Now if any enemy Planes appear, shoot them down in a friendly fashion. I saw this earlier today, not sure of the origin. Not the deepest quote on this thread, but I'm too tired to care.

One of my favourite quotes ever is a David Caruso-ish one liner. Originally Posted By: Garrett Good thing I´m not afraid of heights. In Thief: The Dark Age, upon entering the chamber where the Horn Of Quintus resides.

What are your favourite gaming quotes? I just played a bit of Planescape: Torment, and started thinking about writing in games. Torment is of course almost unique as games go in quality of writing. I can't really pick a single one, but I´ll leave this here: "What a terrible night to have a curse." It's from Castlevania II. This game is horribly translated, but this sentance puts so much atmosphere into the game. (I also want to confess the fact that I have never actually finished this game!) (Also, a close contender is "What is a man? A miserable pile of secrets!) I look forward to hear what my fellow Spiderwebers have to put foward.

    Custom Titles

Is ET Emperor Tulegolar? If so, which name does he go by now? At first I thought you were referncing that guy a few years back, but realized he was edf or somesuch. I wonder what he's up to now...

    Custom Titles

Schrodinger has lost his custom title, FAQself I think it was? Was not the person Imban a moderator once? He seems to be gone now though. Drakefyre seemed to go on a custom title spree every once in a while, I remember lots and lots of Marathon titles, maybe PiD too?. Then much later Alice in Wonderland inspired ones.(Off With Their Heads!). I played Marathon through again and again, had a little dream of having one such custom title off my own, but I never posted much at the time, and it's unlikely I would have been hit with one of his titles anyway. I could have used the opportunity when custom titles were enabled during the board changes, but it would not have been the same, so I refrained.
  9. Yes, you stated it is a repressive theocracy, and I asked where I could find information to back that statement up, which only lead to information on the nations economic situation. I'm not trying to argue, I started posting in this thread out of curiousity, which has not been sated, and Google isn't helping much. I guess I´m a poor Googler.
  10. That´s still completely beside the point. I wouldn't dare draw many conclusions from economic situations in a country.
  11. That news article tells of oppression of protesters, not of the day to say lives of Iranians. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8060167.stm This tells a bit more though.
  12. I did not say it's a dictatorship. Where did you find information about how repressive the Iranian government is? Also, which branch of engineering are you studying? Assuming from your reaction to your newfound knowledge you are probably studying engineering....
  13. I wonder if Irans current regimes opposition of the US makes people think it's a backwards or otherwise bad place to live in. I just checked and it's 70th on the Human Development index. That's the "High Development" category. Remember that the USA recently had a democratically elected regime that unlawfully invaded another nation, killing god only knows how many people. Ahmadinejad is an airbag. I don't agree with most of the reasons he critisises the US for, but that is completely beside the point. He does certainly seem to be supporting Palestinian and other terrorist groups that have attacked Israel, which is unexcusable. My point is that other than this, he seems no worse, and even a bit better, than many of this worlds dictators. I want to add that I personally admire America greatly for a lot of the things it does and stands for, but even so there are many things that the US government does that there is full reason to critisize. A good deed does not excuse a bad one.
  14. I understood what you were saying Erasmus, but not why you picked Iran and China as points of comparison. I´m still curious.

  16. Good evening Sir. I remember you quite well back from my lurking days. Time can br funny in the way I thought "he hasn't been away for all that long!" but then I checked your posting history and realized you have in fact been away that long.
  17. This minors thing sou nds interesting. I guess the extra year in high school comes instead of that. I gather you can pick any two subjects you want?
  18. Mathematical Analysis 1B General Chemistry 2 General Phsysics 2 Statistics and Probability Should have taken Chemical Analyis too, but I'm finishing in 4 years onstead of 3 anyway, so theres no hurry right now. I always sucked at math, so I don't know why I decided to take a BS degree that requires lots and lots of math heavy subjects, but it's going well enough for now.

One thing I once heard and cannot find any mention off on Google is that viruses could be engineered to repair DNA. I guess it makes perfect sense, since it's exactly what viruses do. I don't see it happening any time soon though. I´m shocked by your view on the working market. I've never seen it as such, that people would continually only be doing what they do to get upwards? When I have finished my education and found a job I like why wouldn't I just stay there? I guess what you describe is the corporate work world, which isn't all there is.
  20. I´ll send you a message with the info. I have only found one of the stories I have in mind, and I guess it's not something that happens regularly. Just out of curiousity, where you Raven W/ Writing Desk on the old boards? If not who was that?
  21. Not talking about students, only about people visiting the US. And no there are not many, but still enough to make me think. Why do you put study into brackets? Is it your experience that exchange students do not study?
  22. Since this thread seems to have gone off course anyway, mind if I derail it further? Many European universities offer exchange student semesters, so that a student can take a little part of his education in another country. Do US schools have such programs? I have heard stories of people get into trouble for the most minor and even no infractions when travelling to the US, which is a bit off-putting. Still there are many very good schools in the US, and living there for a few months would no doubt be a great experience.

Okay, I was not being realistic on the resource thing. I strongly support all actions to preserve resources, and maybe I am coloring the world with my own opinions, thinking that people in general think in this way. Many nations in general certainly do not behave as such. In short, I think that if we preserve resources and work towards finding new ways to do without them, we should be fine. Another take on the resource thing, for a large part of our lives, from birth until around 18-26 or somesuch, and usually the last years of our lives(retirement is at 67 I think, where I live, but this is much lower generally I think, which only raises the cost.) We do not contribute to society much at all, so in effect making lives longer(assuming health gets better alongside it) we make each individual much more affordable. And also, other than million year old tree colonies, there are some microorganisms that seem not to age at all. Turritopsis Nutricula is believed to be this way. The Hydra too. If one kind can get rid of this aging thing, why not others?

@ Lord Safey The whole resource issue is not nearly as much of an issue as it's made out to be. Most resources are very predictable, and their(?) absence can be adapted to with years in advance.
