I would awnser, but I don't think you want to hear it. Lets just call them noobs and be done with it? Are you suprised anyways? This type of thing happens all the time around here I've noticed.
EDIT: Then again, having not noticed, you could call me a noob, for arising a week old post (though one on top) for a 4 sentence response. Eh, whatever.
-
Yea. I just found that out. Please disregard my stupid question. I should have realized that I would have to say what type of creature it was.
-
When using the call place_monster(location x, location y, monster type, not worth xp), what does the monster type refer to? Is it the same as the monster race? (demon, humanoid, etc...)
-
I sent you the correct format recently. I will also send you the correct format for the full set (doors, windows, etc...) not too long from now.
-
I wasn't complaining about the 1 hour thing, more along the lines of 4 posts on a pointless topic as compared to 0 here.
.gif I've always found to murder them. It really makes no difference considering any graphic editor can open a .psd and then select and copy it. I think he just wants them for the web, but I think i'll get him to put all my terrain into a link. (if i can)

ok, i'm trying to create a script which gives a character a special ability. i'm having a couple problems. i'm not going to say what the special ability is, because i want it to be a suprise to some sort of degree. heres what i need to know.
1. how can i return a characters energy points left? i searched the appendix and couldn't find anything.
2. ok, here's the main situation i'm really having difficulty with. i know that if i am making a custom item that i can use the call who_is_custom_item_target. however, if i am making a special ability, how would i allow it to target a creature? (i really hope there's a way to do so, otherwise, that would be lame........ extremely lame)
EDIT: even better, is there a way to allow someone to target a space within sight? i know that BOE had one, and there really should be a way to do so here.
thanks for any help, in advance.
also, i now have 35 (roughly) working floors, and i'm debugging the wall graphics. if anyone wants them, let me know, because Brett want's me to convert them into .gif or .jpg but i refuse. (i won't murder the graphics that way) (hopefully i can convince him to just put it in a seperate folder like the color edits)
EDITAGAIN: you know, i have to say, i have seen 4 replies to a dead topic (The Community Is Criminally Ignorant), and yet no replies to this yet. this is a valid question without all the drama and stupid bs, but no one seems to awnser it, odd. i think if people spent as much making scenarios as they did arguing pointlessly, maybe we actually get something done. i'll stop rambling now.
-
it's not so much that it's not updated constantly, so much as it's not updated. it seems that Brett has lost his interest and we no longer have a graphic database.
-
i have noticed that either no one has made any new graphics at all, or Brett simply has been slacking. does anyone know what is going on? he had a family crisis not too long ago, but as far as i knew he was back in business. i know that before he responded within a couple of days about graphic submissions, as compared to now, which i have still not gotten any replies. maybe someone should make a new graphic database.
(unfortunately i have a mac osx so can't use geocities pagebuilder and know absolutely nothing about web page making)

update:
my wall archive is just about complete, so far i have the basic walls, the first and second complex walls, and am about to start working on the third type (Vahnatai)
-
through many tries and frustrations i found that there is NOTHING back there. enjoy the pointless maze.
oh, there was a servile corpse, it had nothing worth the trouble.

what are you talking about? "you shouldn't attempt to kill it without a high level party or trainer or other MODs"??? I killed it with no higher level then the unregistered version with 2 Thahds and 2 Fyora. all of them extremely weak, and died in one hit from the Drayk. however, being an agent was a mistake in my opinion, they have to be the weakest class around, so i would suggest the leadership trick.
-
before flooding this forum with posts that could easily be found out for oneself, go ahead and find out for yourself.
beyond that, which three rogues? i'm guessing the creations because you mentioned earlier about not having a registered version. in the unregistered version, there is only about 1/6th (if not less) of the map that you can cover, is it that hard to go through every area and kill everything?
i don't remember the specifics, but one is in the area west of drypeak, one is to the south, and another is somewhere around.
as far as the drayk TENDON goes, you can't find that until you register.
-
yes, yes you do.

maybe the reproduce asexually (or is that aysexually or aisexuallly or aaaasexually, screw it, how about a-sexually)

i hope you all realize that this post had nothing to do as to where to put the graphics. beyond that i'm running into major problems when trying to examine the graphics, i can't seem to get a screen shot, so here is what is happening. i put a floor, it's not the right one. i'm like huh? so i put another, the first one changes and the second one is something completely different, so i do it again, and again, and again, and eventually i find that half my floors are having this problem. any ideas?
note: i hate bugs.
-
don't have one. this has nothing to do with the louvre, this is just because i have like 70 floors, and don't want to see which ones work and which ones dont, however, i decided to test them anyways, because i'm bored, and i was wondering, does anyone know the resource numbers that are available, as compared to the ones used by BOA?
-
i don't know if you realize this, however in order make the wall graphics efficient, you would also have to make the floor "3D" and the characters, and you could just play avernum.
a 3D tileset within a 2D environment will just not work correctly. you could make it look alright, but never as proffesional as the crappy graphics of the game originally were. vice versa it could work, but only in cartoon movies.
besides that, in avernum you have a slanted square. in exile you have a perfect square, which means that you have to work inside of it. all the graphics would have to take up more then 1 square to actually look 3D. it is an interesting concept, but i doubt, a probable one.
-
this is NOT for a scenario. if i put that in the title however, less people woud read it.

i finished creating more floors then avernum ever had, and about as many if not more walls, however, i am lazy, and don't want to implement them into a scenario and see if they work correctly. if anyone would test them for me, and tell me which ones work, so i can send them to the louvre, and which ones dont, so i can fix them, pleas let me know. it would very much be appereciated.
(i know that's not the right spelling of appreciated)
(in fact, i'm not even sure if that one is)
-
Which ones would you like? The selection templates or the patterns? I can't send both, due to the fact that I am still sadly using hotmail.
-
Mainly because I love doing things the hard way. But beyond that, I didn't think about it. I just did it the easiest way I could think of, which was saved selections, and then adjusting the color variations.
Edit: beyond that, it makes it easier to edit every part of the object exclusively. this is extremely usefull for creatures and such.
Update:
a large library of textures has been converted by me into patterns, this is also available
-
will be sent right after i finish this post. do you know how to use them?
if no:
brief tutorial:
first open photoshop
load the appropriate template (the file)
top menu: SELECT, load selection (Complete Selection or something along those lines)
acquire texture
select texture
top menu: EDIT, define pattern
tool: PAINTBUCKET
setting: PATTERN
fill selection
top menu: SELECT, load selection (darken and then lighten, you should know what to do with those, change as necessary)
SAVE AS (preset selections do not transfer to new projects to my knowledge)
note: Vahnatai Selections done. Next in the agenda = UNKNOWN mwahahahahaha (it will be something interesting)

this message is for photoshop users, as the name says. it is also for photoshop element users.
do you want to make avernum graphics, but don't know how?
do you hate going and individually defining each part of the walls/terrain/creatures?
well i have a solution.
recently i decided to make some custom graphics. as i started i realized how tedious a process it really was. well, if you know anything about photoshop you know that you can save selections. i have saved selections for making walls. this includes the light effects, and the walls themselves. so all you have to do is find a texture, drop and darken the parts that need to be darkened and do the same for the parts that need to be lightened. soon i plan on having a few for basic creatures (sliths, nephilim, humans, and vahnatai) and a few for items and various types of terrain. if anyone would like these presets, just drop a post with your email. i didn't know where to submit such a thing, so i posted it here. enjoy.
note: i also have one for more advanced walls such as windows/doors/etc. these are a little harder to work, but much easier then doing them by hand.

Yea...Quote:Originally written by plazma:
your probably right but ive beaten the game withought augmentation or canister use and its quite fun ive also learned how to make fairly strong monstersQuote:Originally written by FZ:
Maybe Jeff is trying to make a point here?
Especially as the *really* powerful creations requires some dubious morality and loss of sanity (through canister abuse) to acquire.... Something about power without control?
[/QB]
but i like taking every canister in the game. i even made a list. i was hoping that my character would start glowing if i took every canister. i was sorely disappointed.
on the actual point, i think there should be a skill that allows you to change your creations in odd ways. maybe a mutation factor. all the sudden you are messing around with a fyora and it become a flying one. something of the sort. but that will probably never happen. -
i just finished making some walls. i submitted them into the louvre, however it will probably take a few days at best to see them in there. they are (mostly) good walls. of medium/high quality. anyone who would like to get a jump on the walls and have them before the louvre ever displays them, let me know by putting you're email address in the replies.
note:
some of the walls do not blend perfectly, others blend seamlessly. it mainly has to do with the pattern i try and use. i will fix as many as possible as time continues.

I did once name a Thahd George W. Bush. Well, I was going to anyways, turned out to just be George, but hey.
EDIT: Oh and BTW Solberg, the reason call them Noobs is because I can, that and the fact that while I may not post too often, I lurk quite a bit. Past that, I, while on very few occasions have done so, very rarely ever revive old, dead topics.
