  1. I would advise you to download a demo and see for yourself. For your first demo, I would actually recommend Exile 3. It has better effects and overall the most pleasing graphics.
  2. I always say "litch" too. Sounds right. To me.
  3. The second stone circle you visit is the most common place. There's a stone circle on the Isle of Bigail in the mountains, above Fort Emergence through a secret passage in the mountains, and inside a circular hill northwest of Storm Port, though you'll need to fly to get there. There's also two more farther north. Also, a couple people sell it, though I don't know who. Once you get it, you won't be able to use it unless you have a sapphire. An Orb of Sight is nice too.
  4. No, actually it only works 40 times. But it is a great substitute for carrying a load of energy potions wherever you go.
  5. Ask the quickghast about "fangs", or if you want to fight him, "teeth". I think there's a secret passage immediately above his seat with a button. Push that button, and a hole in the wall appears somewhere. Push the button in that hole. Continue for about three times until you can get out. That's for the one on the Isle of Bigail, if that's the crypt you meant. It seems like I've heard of hordes of treasure in there too, but I've never found it.
  6. I just can't get myself to actually work on a scenario for long periods of time. Now that we don't have our old computer set up, my turns are limited to about an hour at a time, alternating between me and my two brothers.

Why did you play it? One could argue it was the best game on the entire CD. What is your favorite game? Probably BoE, though I don't spend a ton of time playing Spiderweb games anymore.
  8. I've seen your account before, but not you. Aren't you the one that posted a couple scenario walkthroughs at GameFAQs?
  9. You may need to buy Jeff a PC as well.
  10. I though Jeff was much more learned in C rather than C++, especially for Exile, but he could have expanded out a little for Avernum. With more and more features in each of his games, the power of the programming lanugage needs to keep up.
  11. That's because secret passage are elusive, especially when found in the Alien Slime lair.
  12. The answer really is pretty simple: limit the encumberance and up the defense skill. For example, in E3 (and I don't know if any of these items are available in E1) I give all my mages low or zero-encumberance armor, such as the Runeshield, Steel-Toed Boots, and Mitril Armor. I really don't know exactly how much defense you need to consistently overcome each unit of encumberance, and it's probably different between the games and depends on things like level too, so I'm really to lazy to find out for you right now. You could do it yourself though, and the Spiderweb community would be happy to hear of your results.
  13. I don't know if random numbers can be implemented in a formula, but they can in a game algorithm, the precise workings of which only Jeff knows.

  15. Perpetual Holly (or other alchemical ingredients) Feather Chain Mail (same as steel, only weighs 20 stones) Hardened Steel Broadsword (dam. 1-15+6, 1-handed)
  16. Yeah, it probably would. I managed to get past, though, by sneaking across the river by Malloc and coming in from the north or south. Once you dump the herbs, they can't detect them anymore.
  17. Oh, yeah, that brings back another question of the sort. I had a Steel Broadsword and enchanted it for +1 (like 6000 gold or something), but now it's like super-valuable. It seems to be like a weapon that's been enchanted is more valuable that an unenchanted one with the same stats. For example an Iron Broadsword (+1) would be more valuable than a Steel Broadsword.
  18. For most brute damage per hit, I'd have to go with two 1-handed swords. Right now, my party leader has a Mithral Broadsword and a Magic Wave Blade, and while niether may be able to equal the Black Halberd, the combined often does. Also, I'm assuming the editor is essential for obtaining two Black Halberds.
  19. It would basically be just another scenario, albeit a larger than average one.
  20. Something like this ? You may have to convert it back to a .bmp, as photobucket automatically turned it to a .jpg. Copy and paste the grid down as needed.
  21. Errr ... *BUMP* Maybe you guys didn't see the edit, or is the answer just a mystery for the ages?
  22. I haven't worked on my scenario I hope to complete in November for a long time. :-/
  23. No scenarios themselves are rated a 10, but when you take all the 8s and 9s and but them all together in one place, you're bound to get a 10.
