  1. Well, genetic engineering is still advancing by leaps and bounds, from what I hear. We're not Shapers yet, or anything, but progress is being made.
  2. I'm betting the Vahnatai have something to do with the Blight. Not necessarily the Olgai, but some tribe of Vahnatai or another that got annoyed by the invasion of humans...

  4. The thing most of us like about Avernum, more than anything, is the plot.
  5. Like many of the people here, I started off on Real Arcade. Geneforge 1, then 2. I got interested in what else this bizarre company had made, and wandered through the Avernum games. Which is also around the time I signed up for these boards.
  6. The longer the series go on, the worse the cities get. Most of them are supposed to be big, yet seem the same size as the original cities of Sucia Isle. Vakkiri always seemed like the most realistic, to me.

  8. Yes, you can. There's one point in which you are tempted with canisters, but you can get away with using them if you have high enough leadership.
  9. Drypeak Colony is gone. The Drypeak Mountains, or at least the western half, are the current theater of battle between the Rebels and the Shapers. Drypeak Valley lies just east of Gazaki-Uss, and just west of Turabi Gate.
  10. The Oracle south of Zephyr Oasis, in the Dera Reaches, will give you a general indicator.
  11. Now, mind you, I haven't finished the Trakovite or Ghaldring route, even though I'm close. However, I absolutely adore Astoria's faction. It is the natural successor to the Awakened, I believe.

However, there's also a reasonable case for it being off of the Nodye Coast. That is, after all, where all the civilization is. I mean, the Shapers could, theoretically, have fled from Sucia all the way to the Nodye Coast... But I doubt it.
  13. The problem with blending them is that the scale differs between G4/5 and the original trilogy. However, they do all match up quite nicely. The G2 map fits in between Turabi Gate, from G4, and Inner Gazaki-Uss, from G5. I'm fairly certain that the Okavano Barrier matches up perfectly with the Western Morass. G3, the Ashen Isles, is, of course, north of Burwood and the Greyghosts. As for Sucia it's either off the eastern or western coast. I'm not sure which.
  14. Why not just have it in the General forum, as usual? That said, that would make, what, three RPs at once going on?
  15. I have to say, reading these reviews makes me feel insulted.
  16. Actually, to all concerned, it has been discovered that Guardians are always male, and Agents are always female, with rare exceptions. This bit of information was gained from Guardian Whatsherface, Rawal's servant in Isenwood's Spire. She was one of the aforementioned "rare exceptions." Thank you, Geneforge V: Overthrow.

Given that there are a few Agents sent out on missions by Shema in G5, Dikiyoba thinks it's more likely she was just on a mission on behalf of the Council and not a member of the Council herself. That is, actually, what she said. Although, she also said there were nine members of the Council, three from each sect. Which would make sense, as there were two extra provinces, Burwood and Illya, back in those days. Although, if the Dera Reaches get counted as a province...

OK, I admit, Sharon is probably the only NPC in four play-throughs that I never killed so I can definitely see her surviving (common, you can't kill Sharon, she helps you non-stop and gives you the best bracelet ever). I can't see Sharon shaping herself in her old age though. Maybe ... Maybe agent Mouawad from GF4..she was on the council..back when there were 9 council members. Alright, you've clearly got things messed up. Here are the most likely people it could have been, from each game. G1 - Brodus Blade G2 - Sharon G3 - Lankan G4 - Pol

  20. I haven't played through all the classes, yet, but they seem to be in much the same order as Geneforge IV, other than the Infiltrator/Agent being not quite as good.

I can't imagine people wanting to buy the games again, and if they were free it would be a huge waste of time. Which is why sales in the Avernum Series went horribly... Besides, I recall asking Jeff if he was going to update them. And he said he would, eventually.

  23. Okay, so as of late, I've been reading To Kill a Mockingbird in English class, and Les Miserables at home. Les Mis is miles superior, I think, to To Kill a Mockingbird, although I may think this because I've read Les Mis before, and we're reading To Kill a Mockingbird at a pace that puts me to sleep. Although, at this point, all I want is something entertaining, not thought provoking.

The Last Archon He who would give up a little freedom for temporary safety deserves neither freedom, nor safety, eh? I support the Awakened, as always.
  25. The Portal Fortress would be an interesting place to live, I think. I mean, if you're there, you're basically on the crossroads of the world. It's easy to make a living on trade there, and you're pretty much safe from anything short of an invasion/Vahnatai portal disruptance. Plus, it's easy to go anywhere from the Portal Fortress, even if it costs you.
