Guys, I'm toying about with a few ideas here for removing an item from a party. Code: 1) if party_has_item = 473;remove_item = 473; Code: 2) A long winded speech thing, but since I've got another two already... Code: 3) A step by step cut-scene, which makes the players fully understand that they've lost an item. Ofcourse, the coding for removing an item probably isn't that simple (I might ask for help later) but I've got the feeling that that's the best. However, I want to see what you think. - Archmagi Micael

Exile vs. Avernum
Archmagus Micael replied to Hellchimp5's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
The Exiles are nice, I used to have them before I had Avernums, but the entire system is just too out-dated for decent play anymore. I'd think that if Jeff totally re-writes them (just with the same abilites etc.) then a lot more people would go back to Exile, instead of Avernum. Yes, Avernum lacks an awful lot of the spells that I enjoyed form the Exile trilogy and BoE, but that involves a lot more coding (obviously), and the game is still enjoyable even without it! - Archmagi Micael P.S> I'll leave you guessing which one I support! Oh also, those marks are even more outdated than EXILE is! -
Read the above^ I HATE SHOPS! , but I also need them, so I've got to ask you lot if you can help me. As most of you know, any scenario worth playing has at least ONE decent shop. So my problem is... How the HELL do you make shops????? Please give me some help here. And don't say try reading the manual, because I'll understand ANCIENT GREEK before I understand what it says! . So basically I'm asking for an online (posting) tutorial on shopping (making shops in BoA), or if somebody could just create a script for a trainer who teaches you Riposte and Anotomy for immens prices I'd also be happy (I mean that the characters in the game have to pay lots for the things, not me pay for the script!). But I'd still want that tutorial! THANKS (If you help!) - Archmagi Micael

Using this strategy, I have just gotten a game in Avernum 3 where I have 250 in almost all of the stats (singleton + knowledge brew + herb lore == teh roxorz!). With the editor, this is even easier. I haven't really tried to find a maximum, but it's above 500. I have seen this bug in Avernum 2 and Avernum 3. I also suspect, though I have no way of confirming my suspicions, that you you could train untrainable special stats buy managing to raise them to above 100, perhaps with 34 mind crystals. Chears! There's a limit on it, I think, but it doesn't work very well, so the game just crashes if the limit is reached. Kelandon explains it quite well in his HLPM. - Archamgi Micael

Mac and Windows Versions Just Patched
Archmagus Micael replied to Spidweb's topic in Blades of Avernum Editor
^ Or maybe there were so many (which there probably were) that he didn't bother writing them all down, so he just labelled it "Several small fixes in the commands scenario designers can use." and left it at that. - Archmagi Micael -
It's either the above two, or the fact that your editor itself has been corrupted. IF the editor is corrputed, you might want t re-download it from spiderweb. Sorry, that's all I can think of. - Archmagi Micael

It's not possible (that I know of) but it IAS a good idea. Maybe if yopu added that to the bugs and suggestions list, cor send it into Jeff straight (which I think will be seen more than the list) and tell him about it. - Archmagi micael

Quote: Originally written by Gorvin: I gave up on scenario designing a while ago, mainly due to my hatred of writting dialog, which I am horribly bad at (not the scripting, but the actual dialog itself). I still have two unfinished scenarios sitting in my hard drive. I may work on them again one day, but right now I'm concentrating on... other things. One of my scenarios sent you on a quest to uncover the lair of a wizard who was kill by his own summoned minions long ago. All I finished was the starter town where your quest is introduced and the ship voyage to the island that supposedly contains the wizards lair, along the way you encounter a kraken (giant squid monster) that you must kill before it destroys the ship. My other scenario was a test to see if I could create a random dungeon generator. It actually ended up working out pretty well, although I had to use a cheap trick to overcome the 32000 node call limit (it forcecages the entire party and breaks the script down into different sections each round until it's finished). I never added a monster spawner or stairway placer or anything, so it just creates a random maze with rooms and no way to exit. If anyone wants the scenario/script for whatever reason they can email me, but it is mostly uncommented and would be hard to make changes to. The second scenario you made. If you edited that, included the exit, added monsters and so on, you could have a simple scenario - which would change every time people entered the town! Also, if you include more than one town into it, you could have a bunch of towns, all different every single time you play!

The Best Bad Guy
Archmagus Micael replied to SmirfOfDoom's topic in Avernum Trilogy (2000-2002 original versions)
"L = Other" is definetely my favourite. It's basicallly a whole bunch of meanies, comprised of all of the races. Say you g=fight and defeat the Nepharim in the first part of the scenario, then you go on to the Insane Archmage, and so on, like in E/A3. Just have it that the slimes were made by the Nepharim Chieftain of the bad guys, (and ofcourse have the slimes), the cockroaches were made by the Insane Archmage (have the roaches), the Alien Beasts were made by the Vahnatai (have the beasts), and so on - for ever! - Archmagi Micael -

Archmagus Micael replied to SmirfOfDoom's topic in Blades of Avernum Editor
Smirf of Doom, Here's a exerpt of script from the basic "Warriors Grove", which people use for a basic town (I used it myself for Magical Grove, and just edited a few texts). Code: beginstate 10; if (get_flag(0,0) == 250) end(); message_dialog("You find a narrow, concealed walkway between two buildings. Webs hang frome ceiling, and the bones of unfortunate rats crunch underfoot.",""); set_flag(0,0,250);break; This code shows you how to have a "once-off" encounter. However, since this is more code than the basic way of doing it, I advise only using the above way when having long strings of code that you want "Once-Off". Here's a piece of code which I use a lot in my scenario, "Undead Valley". It's the easiest way of coding "Once-Offs", since it requires less scripting, and takes up less space. Unfortunately, this way of doing it is very patchy with other "If" commands, so use it only for short things, like message_dialog("",""); commands. Code: beginstate 61;if (get_flag(6,8) < 1){ message_dialog("At last, after all of the stupid undead and Vahnatai, your end is in sight!",""); set_flag(6,8,1);}break; Hope that helps you. And also, I've probably been told the answer already, but anyway, How "HUGE" is your scenario going to be? (You don't have to say if you don't want to.) - Archmagi Micael -

(they should really explain some of these things better) sorry to be wasting your time... add_dialog_str(0,"You find a small crevice in the wall, and it opens into a small room. What's you favourite part of Nethergate? My personal favourite is the fact that you can choose between celts and romans, as well as each having different traits and abilities. I wish that the differences in BoA were like that. If each RACE had it's own abilities, like divinely touched, etc., it would be so much better and challenging! - Archmagi Micael
