Av4 Character Editor... will one ever be made
Ephesos replied to Horus's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy

Anyone that read this, reply if you Agree or Disagree What kind of error? You might be able to fix it with one of the cheats. Jeff won't make a character editor, and we need to make peace with this fact. The cheats are all we're getting. Besides, if he didn't listen to the Mac users when we complained earlier, why would he start listening now? Besides, it's more of a challenge to avoid using the character editor... so I disagree. Let somebody else make the character editor if they need it so badly. -
Ideal ideas that could be done and approve
Ephesos replied to Super ideal idea's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
I'm a little confused here... are you making a character editor? Or do you want someone else to make one? -
Okay, I think I see some problems: 1. Have you tinkered with the Character Graphics file in the BoA Files folder at all? Otherwise, I can't see what would cause this. 2. I don't quite get what you mean... did you make a new set of walls? A screenshot would probably help with this one. 3. Don't mess with the chairs. Copying them never works correctly. It'd be easier to just put down a regular chair, then put invisible light sources around it. EDIT: For some reason I quoted the post...

Perhaps the Tower Colony should get to work on reactivating all of the dead lanterns scattered throughout the caves... and maybe reinstitute the use of candles and torches.

Sadly, nobody's found any easter eggs yet, and we believe there just aren't any... it was a cause of great disappointment during testing. EDIT: Typo... I blame sleep-deprivation.

Slaying Undead - What to do when Buffy's not around
Ephesos replied to Randomizer's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
Or, you could just use Repel Spirit... I find it hard to imagine a party without priests succeeding in A4. There just aren't enough potions (and besides, who really uses healing potions?). Why was this topic necessary, Randomizer? I'd think that people could figure out how to crumble a skeleton on their own. Most of A4's challenge is figuring out the combat tricks... this thread kind of spoils it. -
Okay, sounds like you got the bug that so many other people did. You won't be able to get back into Almaria during your game, but it won't matter too much. The endgame might be a bit more difficult, but otherwise you're fine. For the record, if you play through again, go talk to Advisor Houghton before going after that crystal box. You're supposed to free someone from under Almaria first...
-
If I recall correctly, it's someone in Formello... but just keep looking around. If they aren't in Formello, they're probably at the Tower Colony. (All I can remember is that you finally get them translated in SPOILER )
-
Did you go get the crystal box before freeing Ghall-Ihrno from under Almaria? If so, I don't think there's much you can do about it. Simply put, what else have you done?
-
Which scrolls do you mean? And what fort, because there is no Fort Sanctuary. Perhaps you mean Fort Monastery?

Adjust the brightness and contrast on your monitor, then go look for a lever. It should be roughly south of the gate. This is getting to be quite a problem...

And now, this thread can die the slow death...

Yes, in fact, most of the incredibly difficult doors in the game have little or no reward attached to opening them. I believe one in Patrick's Tower conceals a spellbook, but the rest are pathetically disappointing.

Trying to find dead necromancer whose name starts with H.
Ephesos replied to Milla's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
The question had already been answered, and it was specifically mentioned that it wasn't Hrickis... just so you know. -

I've always been a fan of luck. I believe that most studies revealed it to be a worthwhile investment. I also find that Defense is good for every party member, though only main-line fighters should concentrate on it. A few levels in it definitely help.
-
Sometimes the colors are just strange... but usually the automap is your friend. I'm beginning to think that some levels were just supposed to stay dark to the point of confusion. Perhaps it was meant to be atmosphere, but I don't think it worked.

Send a tank after the pylons, and just keep a substantial amount of healing power back. Coat everything with acid, and keep Bolting Kravit. Generally speaking, haste/bless/shield everyone, run in, smash him, and be ready to run out at any moment.

Coolest thing about Avernum 4?
Ephesos replied to Punctuation rains from the heavens's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy

I rarely used the old special abilities in A1-3 and usually piled them on one character for use when only one character could go through a portal for the encounter. I do miss those adventures and preparing a character for them like getting Demonslayer in A2. You know, I never realized this... but I really miss portals. I mean, there's not a single one in A4, if I recall correctly (not including the Ft. Avernum portal). I miss teleporting across levels, as well as the challenge frequently posed by single-character puzzles. -

Ephesos replied to Milla's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
I know what you mean, and I have the same problem too. (Problem? Problem? What problem? I can stop any time I want to!) I just meant: Why would anyone think to collect the tails from dead rats unless explicitly told to do so? -
Trying to find dead necromancer whose name starts with H.
Ephesos replied to Milla's topic in Second Avernum Trilogy
I believe you mean Harko. He's in a locked crypt under the Goblin Lair (the one south of Fort Monastery). Sadly, you can only start collecting rat tails after getting that quest. After all, why would you bother if you didn't have the quest? -
You probably don't have to go back for it. In fact, it sounds like you're far enough along that it shouldn't matter much. Strange... wouldn't have thought that anyone would go the long route to get to the Scree Caves. I mean, they're the Scree Caves... (and they even got noticeably smaller in A4)
