  8. My scenario is pretty much finished. I'm looking for a beta tester or two who doesn't mind slogging through an ocean of words. I've played through this thing enough that it's mostly polished (so if you're the only people who ever play it, at least it's playable enough), but I'd like it to be seen from a different perspective to work out any kinks, and any weak and/or confusing spots. With the scenario, I'll also send a few issues I haven't resolved yet.

My fees (public school) are about €600 per year; most of that pays for public transport. I know I live in a den of old European socialism, but I didn't realize I had it this good. It really depends on the school in the states. I paid about that much per semester while getting my associates degree at a community college. Honestly, for the price I paid, the quality of education was phenomenal. I'm surprised that more students don't take care of their basic core classes this way before going to a more specialized school for their degree.
  10. I tried using the set_terrain call to turn some unlit braziers into lit braziers and the light braziers don't actually give off any light. What?
  11. Started with Exile, but I played the heck out of Exile 2. I probably wouldn't have the patience to play Exile 2 today, but my memories of it as a child are impossible to beat.
  12. Doesn't the game on Steam come with all of that stuff included?

Don't take the above paragraph as accusatory or anything. I'm clearly in the minority with this opinion. I'm just curious as to why someone would want such a thankless job. There's also the issue that people who actually want that kind of responsibility are usually the last people you want in those positions. I haven't seen this so much in online forums, but I've witnessed a lot of cases of moderators turning their little sphere of influence into their own private playground.

The trick is to avoid buying textbooks at all cost because they're incredibly expensive, most teachers rarely use them, and you can usually get by just fine without ever cracking one open. Obviously, this doesn't apply for every class, but I generally like to see which classes make use of them before I start shelling out all that precious money.
  16. Cool deal, just make sure to get your scenario tested before you release it. Getting feedback early can help resolve a ton of problems.
  17. I think you should say as much as you think ought to be said. I'm not going to hold you to anything.

Her father was the ESL teacher at the high school, and he did not approve of the relationship at all (he didn't allow his children to date, period). Her mother was one of my mom's coworkers and one of her closest friends. You can see where this is going. I'd try not to smirk when I'd see them together, because sometimes they were oddly...affectionate. One day in choir our music teacher had to get the soprano part into line. That meant everyone else wasn't doing anything. My friend goes to the bathroom, and since the other three basses were gone that day I was sitting alone. She walks over and sits next to me, and suddenly her hand is wayyyyyyy too far up my leg to be considered "friendly." She starts asking about my day while, um... Meanwhile there's one thought going through my head: Red Flag!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish my awkward moments were more like yours and less actually awkward and depressing.

  21. Quote: 4. Regarding the period around 2004-2005. Who was active in the transitional design community that began using BoA? This is a few years before Shadow Vale, so I'm not very sure. Kelandon and TM, clearly, maybe Ephesos, and I think Jewels and BainIhrno would fit in that community as well. Who else? Stareye created the very first Blades of Avernum scenario, A Perfect Forest. Years later, in SV, he revealed that he was working on a large project, but he, as far as I know, never finished it. TM ported Roses of Reckoning, and followed by making Emerald Mountain and Canopy, along with a host of small scenarios to teach others how to design (not sure exactly when this was). Khoth made Babysitting relatively early on. If by 'transitional', you're referring to BoE designers moving on to BoA, I think that's probably it. Otherwise, there was a spattering of small scenarios created by random users who never really posted and haven't been heard from since. NecrisOmega created a bunch of exceptional creature graphics, and Luz(?) made a boatload of amazing terrain/floor/wall graphics that have appeared in pretty much every scenario.
  22. If the judges wouldn't mind, it would probably be nice to put some reviews up in the appropriate forum. I was looking through the list of scenarios earlier, and I noticed that some of the scenarios in this contest have very few reviews (if any at all).
