  1. They could be ridiculously heavy items. Then nobody but a god party would be picking them up.
  2. I think it to be somewhat worse that almost one in five people think Alcritas is undeserving of said honorific while (assumedly) thinking one of the other designers is. This goes up to two in seven for Stareye, almost one in four for Brett Bixler and Drizzt, and one in two for The Creator. (Kelandon, TM, Thuryl, and Tarl Kudrick are all sitting at slightly over two in three.)
  3. Is it just me, or are the Geneforge 3 outdoors world maps considerably worse than the Geneforge II or Geneforge I maps? Especially Dhonal's Island. And, well, pretty much all the others, too.
  4. As Alorael will tell you, your failed signature theft is probably too incompetent to snipe you over. (Slipped into first person and didn't use any form of punctuation before your name.) I would think a good boss for the Generic Dungeon would be a normal monster (eg. goblin) except larger, different-coloured, with four times more HP than it could ever realistically have, and a random description, like 'venomous' or 'malignant' stuck on the front. Of course, said boss would have another advantage in that it could be used in Geneforge. Just replace all uses of the word 'goblin' with 'artila' and you're set!
  5. You can also see the remains of some of silver's maps on Google Image search. But the annotations are still far too small to read.
  6. Maybe this is a mac/win problem. We don't know if Slacks uses windows, but I know Kel and TM don't, and I'm not sure about Archmagi Micael. I don't see the underscores when I play CV, and I use windows.
  7. I think turrets and mines are rather like bacteria. They live, they perform actions, but they do not of their own conscious thought but just because that is how they are made. A virus cannot help attacking cells. I consider my own creations to be sentient beings as soon as I give them so much as one point of Intelligence. Until that, they're bacteria. But once I do, I get my character to protect them with his life, as they do for me. Geneforge, to me, seems less post-apocalyptic and more pre-apocalyptic. All the new technology, the discovery of megapowerful creations, the growing conflict, it all seems to lead up to the fantasy equivalent of nuclear devastation, or some such.
  8. I am fairly sure this has something to do with either the Orb of Thralni or telling you to go to the Tower of Magi and learn a new spell as a reward. Probably the latter, though you can always go check with the person guarding the Orb just in case.
  9. That might be a good game, but it wouldn't be Avernum 4. In reality? I want a good storyline and a realistic world. And acceptable gameplay. Everything else is unimportant.
  10. ...odds on Soverign being eventual winner are 1:5, San-Racku 7:1, The Master 190:1, and Rentar-Ihrno 1000:1...place your bets folks, place your bets... Anyway, I voted for Soverign and San-Racku. Because, not owning a copy of BoE, I have to vote on knowledge gleaned from reviews and mentions by other people. I voted Soverign because *anybody* can beat Rentar-Ihrno, and I voted San-Racku because he/she/it has a cooler-sounding name. I still think Soverign will win. ...place your bets folks, place your bets...
  11. You haven't done everything you need to do in the lower levels of the fortress. Just go back and make sure you've used all of the control panels/levers/whatever (can't quite remember).
  12. I'm pretty sure this is referring to doing it without any character editor use.
  13. Quote: Well whatever the creature is, let just hpoe it is one of the new creation that shaper could create in GF3. That would not be fun. I am willing to bet it is just one of the old figures, like a drayk or a glaahk or possibly a drakon, except graphically modified so that it has an utterly useless glowing affect, is standing in the middle of a pentagram and has explosions occur at it's feet every minute. Also, it will have a pointless name modification, such as "Inferno Demon" or "Opulent Horror"
  14. Actually, it is technichally possible to mix rollick and grit as much as you want, so long as you do it in separate parts of the scenario, ie the first half of the scenario is very rollicky until you get onto a ship or something, and then it becomes very gritty. Or, the scenario begins grittily but opens out into rollickyness. Or any combination of the above. Also, the Sighing Mountain example is another way to mix rollick and grit, of course. EDIT: After reading The Creator's post, I'll just say "Point taken" rather than argue, probably because I agree.

  16. Great article. Well written. Concise. Both sides of the argument. Meaningful examples. Sentence fragments. But really, it is a good article.

  18. You can't. I believe the game itself tells you that it's impossible. He's just deranged enough to believe that you might be able to. Just kill him and take his stuff.
  19. Has anybody tried changing it? Putting something like Code: question = "Eugene"; when the creature's real name is William? Would it work? If it did, it could be useful for disguised creatures or some such.
  20. Kss-Urg's Valley, if I recall correctly. Having never actually played as a taker, I don't know. You should also check the walkthrough at the top of the board and attempt to capitalise and spell words properly. How hard can it be to spell Drayk? EDIT: Oh yes, my mistake. Clawbug canyon.
  21. The chances of Jeff porting it back are next to nil. He doesn't need Exile anymore. The chances of it being made as a BoE scenario are also next to nil. Nobody would want to waste time porting one of Jeff's rather... inferior products when they can just make their own. Anyway, we already *have* an E4.
