May I ask why you were looking for Eagle Rock? I can see why finding its symbol on the map was a bit weird, one expects to see the name on the map.

On top of Randomizer's point that this isn't a spoiler to begin with, it was also this way in Exile I, way back in 1994.
I don't think you can really spoil something that's 29 years old...
I know. I figured people would still remember me even though I barely post, but it has been some years since I posted a bit. Used to be member #303 twenty years ago. Nice to see some of the old hats still keeping these forums going. Thanks for posting, Slarty. (I said Alorael but I meant Slarty)

Since you are in the remake trilogy, in Avernum: Escape from the Pit, in Fort Draco, Boutell the Blacksmith can repair it when you have all three parts.
Thanks for spoiling it for everyone else! lol

Four and a half months since my last post. I finished those books and have started others.
An Eye for an Eye by Carol Wyer (part one of a three-part series)
The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. (I read one story or chapter a day)
Foxe's Book of Martyrs by John Foxe
I forgot to include last time, but I have also been reading a few Bible chapters a day as per my daily Bible reading for the year.

Especially those of us who take 2 years to reply to things and sometimes forget to play the rest of a game because other life events crop up.
Targeted statements? It's possible I may or may not have left off conversations and games with vast amounts of time between responses. However, as many people say, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder," or something like that.

If you play Skyrim on pc, you can remove the markers.
I know and have removed them. My comments are on things like that make it seem too easy to go from one place to the other.
QuoteAnyway, it's obvious that newer games are made for lazy players, players who don't want to think about what they are playing, resolve riddles (the riddles in Skyrim are ridiculous) and so on. They want linear games they can play fast because "I have other games to play!". Pity, really.
I definitely wouldn't say lazy. As someone who likes to play games (but has almost no time for them), I can see the need for easier game mechanics to get a more enjoyable experience. However, my main (and really only) complaint is that the ease of playing has overridden the enjoyability of playing.
That being said, I'm not saying that newer games can't be or are not enjoyable.

Sorry about not replying. As I barely even have time to play the games anymore, talking about them seems kinda moot. However, I still have a fondness (nostalgia) for them. Maybe making this post was a bit of an 'old mannerism', but I still stand by what I originally said. Games seem to be getting easier with all of the location markers, full and small scale maps, fast travel from anywhere, etc. I know that I'm old fashioned. Some of us still are. Are the newer games fun? Of course they are and I enjoy playing them when I get the chance.
This isn't just about Spiderweb games. If anything, Spiderweb games are probably the most original old-school RPG's out there. Are they like they were 20 years ago? Maybe not, but they're better than most out there. I know that I'm in the very small minority, but I miss the sense of adventure. Having to remember what NPC's say so that you know where to go. I remember playing Skyrim when it first came out. Knowing I had a marker eventually made me not pay too much attention to NPC's about quests since location and item markers did that job for me.
Those things make it a bit easier to play, but it just seems that something is missing. Ok, my rant is over. I'll see y'all guys later.

I'm reading several books. A chapter here from one book, another chapter from another book.
The Story of Christianity Volume 2: The Reformation to the Present Day by Justo Gonzalez.
Reading Romans in Context: Paul and Second Temple Judaism by Ben C. Blackwell, John K. Goodrich, and Jason Maston.
Rebooting the Bible Part Two: Discovering the Authentic Chronology of the Bible by S Douglas Woodward.
Very good reads for the thirsty Christian mind.

Exile: Escape from the Pit. Dang, I haven't played that in over a decade. The first version had white ground and the walls were also way different. Talk about playing a game that was hard. If you didn't keep notes, you definitely lost track from time to time. Those were the days...

I think titles for those who contribute the most are well-deserved. People like Alorael, Drake, and Slarty have done lots of things for these forums.

That is until the defeated peoples that were thrown into the pit banded together and somehow found both a way back to the surface and Emilaine's weakness. These being accomplished, the Pit Dwellers overthrew Emilaine and restored Shaper rule. Story has a bit of familiarity to it, huh?

Welcome back, Sir Motrax. Glad to see that you are still around at times. There are some good games still being made by ole Jeff and Marianne. I also come here from time to time to check in with everyone.

I almost hate playing the newer games because there's no sense of adventure. In the Exile/Avernum games, you get a quest then you have to ask where to find the place where you go to. Now you get a quest and a marker comes up telling you where to go. While it makes for easier game play, I think some of the adventure is taken away. This isn't just a Spiderweb thing, it's been happening for years. That's just mu 2 cents.

Granted, you now work at a fast food place making sandwiches for other people.
I wish the next Spiderweb game was available to play.
Granted, but the actors in the play are soon struck down with the common cold they got from Alorael.
I wish to live comfortably for the next 20 years.

Didn't want or mean to break any rules. I misread the "advance opinions" to mean advancing in the game.

Does the backer beta not have the same NDA as the earlier beta?
DO NOT GIVE COPIES OF THIS GAME TO ANYBODY! DO NOT SHARE YOUR PASSWORD. DO NOT PLAY WITH IT WITH YOUR FRIENDS. DON’T DROP HINTS OR ADVANCE OPINIONS, EVEN POSITIVE ONES, ON THE MESSAGE BOARDS. IT IS VITALLY IMPORTANT THAT THE BETA VERSIONS STAY UNDISTRIBUTED!How does what I said violate NDA? -
They do look pretty good. Can't wait to play it.

So here I am playing the game for the 3rd time and have to say that I still enjoy it. The little differences make a difference. (Does that even make sense?) Maybe it's nostalgia or whatever. Having played E3:RW and A3, you would think that playing this game would get old, yet it isn't true. There is still enough newness within to make even a 3rd play through enjoyable. I hate that there's no horses though.
Currently I'm just wandering around after finishing off the golems doing odd stuff. Feisty fist of pain!

The first game from Spiderweb Software I played was the demo to Exile 2: Crystal Souls I found on a Galaxy of Games CD in the summer of 1997. Three days later, I found Exile 1: Escape from the Pit on another disk. 4 months later I was able to come up with the money to register both games.

Just figured I'd write a line or two to say hello (hello). Good to see that Spiderweb forums are still kicking in there. Can't wait to see what this Queen's Wish comes into. I only put $200 into it, but that's all I could do.
Played a bit of A3:RW before my laptop died. I'd get another one but I hardly have time to play computer games anymore.
I got my CDL in February and have been driving a truck with my brother since then. Been all over the lower 48 except the northwest and northeast areas. It's pretty cool to get to travel around place to place and get paid for it.

Exile 1 Maps
in The Exile Trilogy

Seeing these old pictures brings back many memories of nearly a QUARTER CENTURY ago! I know that Exile: Escape from the Pit came out in 1994, but I didn't discover it until 1997. Great work to all who put together these maps.
