  1. Fallout 2 is a must in my opinion. Use the restoration mod that RCCCL mentioned, grit your teeth, and clear the first Temple of Trials section. You can get yourself a gun in the second town in the game, and the game is definitely worth the hassle of spearing an ant or two. Warcraft 3 was a classic, Blizzard do a great job in differentiatin the gameplay for different factions. It was one of the best RTS games around, but Company of Heroes might have trumped them. I think I’ve tried the Heroes of Might and Magic series but I’ll give the RPG's a look. Oh, and I’ve tried X-com for the first time. It’s amazing that a game from 1994 can still impress on so many levels. I knew I could trust you Spiderwebbers to big me up some gems. Keep 'em coming.
  2. Wow loads of suggestions here. Let’s see... KOTOR I think I might have tried. It was either KOTOR or KOTOR 2 that was unplayable due to bugs but I’ll give it another go. I’ve completed both Dungeon Siege games, even though they weren’t all that great. Kinda lacking in the brains department, but they were pretty fun. Neverwinter Nights is lying around somewhere, I think I got annoyed at some particularly difficult battle and relegated to the 'I'll finish that later...' stack. Neverwinter Nights 2 had a really crazy camera system if I remember right. I played some Mass Effect, but it was stretching the specs on my PC so I thought I’d better leave it till I get a machine that could do it justice. Anyway, thanks for the tips guys. I’ll go check (or recheck) some of these out. Oh and I’m also on the lookout for strategy games. I’m into most or Paradox Interactive stuff if that name means anything to you.
  3. Played them and loved them. Apart from 3... Black Isle rarely made a bad game, and then only when they were forced to rush.
  4. Ill cut to the point. I need more games to play. Played the first three Avernums, and a couple of the Geneforges and loved them to bits, but now I need something new. To give you an idea of what I’m after, I’m a huge fan of Black Isle's games (and what Troika managed to smuggle out in its few years) and I had some fun with Dragon Age (even if it stretched my PC to the limit). Oblivion is good but only because it charmed me with its pretty graphics and huge world, what I’m really after is something immersive with a substantial and decent plot. Any suggestions welcome.
  5. Hijack. Is nethergate singleton friendly? Ive only just got into playing as a singleton, so should i wait for Windows Nethergate or get stuck into Avernum 2 again?
  6. Well ive never generally cared too much about graphics. I grew up with low spec computers, which when i think about it was probably why i stumbled across Spiderweb games. I do prefer the original Averum-Nethergate style graphics, but that never stopped me playing through a few geneforge demos and enjoying them. However when Jeff finally got rid of that graphic type in A4 it seemed like the end of an era. I did grow up with them after all... Anyone agree?
  7. Ok. I am just moaning, and i know its to late to do anything about it. But dont we prefer the old Avernum style graphics? The Geneforge-based stuff just looks like imitation 3D, and while i cant narrow down what made the classic Avernum stylings so good, they did seem to have alot more charm. Anyway, here goes... EDIT: I can't spell.
  8. I knew i had gone wrong somewhere. Thanks for clearing that up.
  9. Just decided to play through A3 again, and have a sneaking suspicion im missing something. Im pretty sure i rember there being stat dependant skills available, maybe sharpshooter and lethal blow were a couple, which you could obtain through sufficient stat levels in one or more skills. I have a sneaking suspicion im thinking of A2.... If i could have a list of the skills, with the stats requiered (or a certifiate to prove my creeping senility) id be much obliged.
  10. I like my downbeat Rock and Hardcore music. Million Dead's melancholy and Reuben's energy (both local bands!) can create an atmosphere which reflects some of the darkness and exitement (read violence) in Avernum. Then again, music does detract somewhat from my gaming experience, me not being a multitasker. Edit: Add Biffy Clyro to the above two. Just cuz i like em. And Mogwai, for that touch of the magical.
  11. For me, the challenge of wading through endless 'party' references in dialog is challenge enough. These invisible adventurers are taking most of the credit for my singletons work, and i just cant stand it.
  12. Does the moss ever stop glowing? If it doesnt a roof would be usefull to keep the light out. Also, i may be a lower class of person, but i might be tempted to throw stuff into your house if it didn't have a roof, just for laughs. Its hooligans like me that keep the Avernum roofing industry in buisness.
  13. I only change the first characters name to my own. Still looks crap, but with personality. If crap can have personality.
  14. Yeah, but a few soldiers is nothing compared to the beating you should be getting. Why would the xenophobic empire allow a giant lizard to go anywhere near the great cities. Frankly, if it was realistic, youd get attacked at or locked out of every city, village and hut.
  15. There seemed to be a liberal sprinkling of Hispanics, but the Asians seem to be the least reprsentead. And of course, I like the racism in the Trilogies. It adds to the realism, however sad this may be.
  16. I assume that it would be very long and complicated. There are literally thousands of SDFs, and you would (i think) have to scour the whole game after changing each SDF, to identify the function of each SDF. And maybe, as Alorael said, the Tinraya events are controled by many SDFs.
  17. I have no idea what the problem could be. Maybe if you have slaughtered the Divine Lucre church the quest isnt available, or maybe you need a good reputation to talk to Sick Boy.
  18. If i remeber correctly the Haakai summon a few demons with them. If your anywhere near as strong as i was, itll be a pretty easy fight to win. If not, use the bless-before-battle teqnique.
  19. Quote: ....The second person is a beggar named Sick Boy. If you give him a few coins he'll tell you to talk to Judith about a certain artifact. This takes us to the third person. Judith isn't always in Shayder, since she travels between Shayder and Bavner. Once you've found her talk to her about the artifact and she'll sell you the location of the Fury Crossbow for 1000 coins... Direct quote from Rache's A3 Walkthrough. Edit: All this is in Shayder.
  20. I very much doubt Jeff cares. In fact, hes notorious for not caring. In fact send him an email, just on the chance that he answers. That should cause quite a stir. Ho ho.
  21. This topic has been done so many times, but its still so true. I hate having to put all my things on the floor, when i could have a chest for swords, one for scrolls etc. I wish Jeff would listen to his fans....
  22. This is one of those topics that makes you want to play Avernum 3 again. And coincedentally, i just happen to have alot of free time...
