Let's hope the rebels will get some love... GF3 is the only game that I wanted to stay with the Shapers, evil and oppressive as they are, because somehow, the Rebels were quite worse. And they kill all my friends and bully me in the opening.

I'm usually Awakened/Rebel – and I clearly don't remember GF3 well because it's been years since I played last – but I didn't mind them in that game? Maybe I just preferred Greta to Alwan and let that make my decision for me 😅.

  2. I just finished *The Gender Games* by Juno Dawson, which I think is a very... I think it's a unique look at a not-very-unique journey towards gender transitioning that I really appreciated. Even while lots of it didn't apply, it made me feel more connected with my LGBTQIA+ family, and helped me to think about, and reframe, moments in my life that I'd been carrying around my neck.

  3. Hey! Ressurection time: ☠️

I don't suppose anybody has a copy of this on their hard drive for some reason? Not that you would have, it being 10 years ago.

If you do, please get in touch. I'll love you forever ❤️

Another quick area: ignore going south (there's lots of hostile uber-ornks there that jump you), instead go NW through the ruined buildings. The sentinels are all easily bypassed by speech checks. Loot the buildings that don't have acid pools in them (which likely two-shot you at this stage), accept the mark of hatred from Heustess at the end of the Sentinel string, then head into The Great Temple.

Also a quick note on this bit. I discovered accidentally in my first playthrough that if you go around the outside of the map by deactivating the mines, you can skip all the speech checks AND avoid getting the mark from Heustess. You also miss the quest to kill Goettsch, but that seems less important in a run like this. Still, if you're hurting for Leadership, this can be a way to deal with this whole area a bit easier.

-The Sealed Lab, west of the Southern Workshop & east of the Patrol Bridge, is combat-locked and easily avoidable

I'm attempting a similar run now (Agent, pumping Leadership/Mechanics/Stealth) to get these last three achievements. I wanted to flag this because if you're Taker-allied, this clears without you needing to set foot inside the Lab. Which is AWESOME, because it then bypasses an unclearable map (Pentil East), which helps backtracking.

Anyway, awesome guide otherwise/so far. I've definitely referred to it a couple of times!

Hi Forum! I'm back. I saw this Queen's Wish thing and downloaded it and lost a few hours of my life! Yay!

What else is new around these parts? I see Geneforge is back (that's a remake of the original, yes?). I don't recall Avernum 4/5/6 being here when I last visited. How are they? Why do I even ask... I should just purchase and play. :)

Uhh... I guess that's all I have to say. That, and... hello!

    - SMoE

EDIT: Yay! I still have my custom title!

EDIT 2: Also I added a beautiful MS Paint portrait. Now everyone will recognize me around here.

Yay! Nice to see you back. :) Hope the years have been good!

The second Avernum Trilogy play more like modern SW than the older Trilogy, but they're still a lot of fun. They regularly go on sale on Steam, so there's a good chance you can snag them for cheap. And, of course, Jeff still have huge demos so you can try stuff out.

Even that could (irrc) be exploited a little bit when combined with the unlock spell.  Save & start using tools until you got down to about five needed & cast unlock with every tool used.  Eventually you'd get in a tool or two before you could be expected do so with either unlock or tools (or maybe it was a few tools before you were told what would work...).  Reload & use tools until you were right at that sweet spot, put the extra saved tools back into your pack & loot away...whee

Yeah, I don't miss that drudgery.  The dumb things I did way back when when I was younger & goofing off time wasn't so precious.

Yep! Each level of the unlock spell and whatever school it was boosted the power of it I think, so you would use tools until you were two or three away, and then cast unlock. It was tedious and I'm so glad it's gone.

On the other hand, I do not like how my abilities shift around as I unlock new ones/get new items. It's very disconcerting 😛

  8. I want to chime in here and say that I agree with you, Felix. I absolutely appreciate Randomizer and Jeff's comments, but even with minmaxing and playing a Shaper in the exact way that has been described above I'm finding torment MUCH more tormenting than in other Spidweb games. I thought I'd turned a corner when I could start making some level 3 creations but nope... Any fight that goes past two rounds (which is most of them) is almost certainly a fail.

I think, for me, part of it is that GF1M is quite a bit different to the GF I could play blindfolded, and there's a lot more depth and strategy to creations. I'm at the point now where I'm going to start a new save to get my head around everything on Veteran, because it feels very frustrating to have to be picking away at 3 or 4 zones to get enough experience to finish one of them and progress the story.

I'm a bit out of practice with SW games, but in the past I've beaten E1-3, A1-6 (and the remakes), and GF1-5 on the highest settings and this one feels much more punishing and even a little unfair in parts. I'm hoping my opinion changes as I get to play around with the game mechanics a little more!

  9. I did a quick search and saw that if I train in a stat/skill (e.g. melee weapons), I can't get a free upgrade later. Is the same true for using a cannister? I feel like I should know this, based on previous games, but I also vaguely remember later Geneforge games not caring which order you acquired stats.

    Ty!

I thought the time-based autosave has been in previous games too.  Did I make that up?

Sorry, I missed this. Definitely wasn't in previous Geneforge games, which is what confused me (and cry "bug!"). It's been a hot minute since I played a Spiderweb game, so I couldn't say for sure with, e.g. Avadon.

  11. Haha, thanks Randomizer. Yep, I know it's a different slot. I suppose I should have said that the two saves are identical. I'd spent perhaps 20 minutes poking around Pentil which doesn't seem *that* long really... Also weird that it saved at literally the exact same spot as my quicksave.

I guess the question is – is autosave now based on time rather than zones? If so, is there any way to get it NOT be that way!

  12. Like a dummy, I told Dayna in Pentil that the records she was keeping were worthless, which means I can no longer sell any to her. I had quicksaved, accidentally (force of habit), but figured I could just load up an autosave from outside the city and redo the last 15 mins...

    Nope.

For some reason, my autosave AND quicksave are in the same position. Has anybody else had the same problem?

I'm assuming that I'm now stuck with these records (and down a nice bit of money), which you know, is fine. It's not worth redoing a couple hours of gameplay considering gold isn't that important in this game. If anybody did have a solution/fix though, I'd be stoked.

If not, learn from my stupidity and remember to make hard saves from time to time...
