  1. Could well be. I guess it would make little sense to have a separate board for it, since it is for all purposes a part of the trilogy. Here's hoping Jeff puts out Avernum 5, making Avernum the only other trilogy in five parts ever produced.

  3. The thing with ID-10 T33 errors is, if you've got one, you don't notice. Only others notice, and when they get exasperated with this realization, the ID-10 T33 error causes you to be offended if they point it out. Altogether a very annoying error, especially to those around the victim. It can be "cured" with locks, cans and by pressing Alt-F4. But that's just treating the symptoms.
  4. Quote: Originally written by Not I: You see, it has to do with an ID-10 T33 problem, which I've heard of from some of the other posters. In rare cases, the ISP trackers Spidweb uses to identify you cause your computer to react... badly to Spidweb games. I have the feeling you are telling BS to the poor noob. What you should really do is press Alt-F4.

Error 304: This Topic Has Been Done Before. The reason nobody has responded is that you have posted a spam topic that gets posted around twice every month. You should excuse the people who have been here a few years longer for not bothering to respond to this latest repitition of a question that has ultimately been discussed and debated from every possible angle.
  6. It's potentially a very good move for single PC parties, because in E3 it's impossible to put heavy armor on a mage. That means you'll have to fight either without armor or without mage spells - if you can exchange the latter for priest spells, it's a good bargain. There's no good substitute for Haste though, and that's enormously useful with single PCs.
  7. Quote: Originally written by Glitch, technical: Tolkien and his closest imitators are the ones who capitalize Men, Elves, and Dwarves. Some others capitalize Elves and Dwarves but not men, which is strange, and more just leave them all lower case. —Alorael, who also enjoys pointing out that elvish and dwarfish are words. Elven and dwarven are not standard English. For consistency, it should be elfish and dwarfish, or elvish and dwarvish.
  8. This is very misleading to anyone who has played Ancient Domains of Mystery... I am used to exulting when I see that line: Quote: What do you wish for? >
  9. Quote: Originally written by Gastric Freezing: Actually, there's only one H in "vahnatai". It was, uh, just for emphasis. Yes. Empf Fah Syz.
  10. Vahnatai vahnatainis. Also, Elves and Dwarves are commonly capitalized in fantasy fiction, as are Men, when the term is used to refer to humans. But that's an author's choice too, and apparently Jeff decided not to capitalize species names.
  11. Vah. Nah. Tai. Honestly, the only word that has been misspelled more often is Slithzerikai.
  12. Imban is obviously married to Linda. Drakey and Mariann are two aspects of the same entity, and Jeff Vogel is in fact the eleventh incarnation of Vishnu, while Richard is the current head of the Bavarian Order of Illuminati.
  13. And that's where the discrepancies are going to come in. But I won't be miffed unless he changes the name "Ermarian". That'd be nasty.
  14. I've used Summoning on occasion, but only when I was out of spell points to do anything else (and low-level attacks wouldn't have done it). I've found it can give you a brief edge if the opponents are too tough or deal too much damage in a single round. In high level environments, that additional turn you have to chug an invulnerability potion or deal ~200 damage with another spell can matter a lot. Create Illusions yields the best cost efficiency, because the meatshield doesn't need an excessive amount of health (more than likely they're going to die in one hit anyway). But with a faster, less strong opponent (say, 3 smaller attacks instead of one big one), additional hit points can be useful as well. It depends on the situation. Edit: In BoA, of course there is the added bonus of summoning some monster the designer forgot to disable from summoning. I remember having a lot of fun with Goblin chieftains in Canopy... Edit2: Of course, my point can't be impartially tested by a BoE/BoA arena run. The usefulness of Summoning directly depends on how it is used - and the AI uses it in a very dumb way.

Actually, I would say it makes more sense in the Avernum Trilogy for that reason - when the Priest spells are just about as destructive as the Mage spells, then what is the point of rejecting one of them? Chief Spider, did you seriously try to troll by ranting against a fictional religion? My my, what a funny place the world has become...
  17. Cryptic comment of the day: We really need to get that new RP started... ^__________^

Sure, the Fourth Scenario will be chalked full of uniquely BoA features, but seeing something important happen or revealed would be nice. Your BoA anticipating maniac, Necris Omega Quote: Originally written by Arancaytar: Edit: I assume you're referring to the history 'book' Scipio, since our scenarios won't take Jeff's time. We could all write it together, send it to him for approval and he'd maybe put it up on the site. And the process of checking if the facts are right wouldn't take as long as writing the thing. Sounds interesting, doesn't it? And thus it came to pass that a project was started and never completed! Here's to two great years of the Encyclopedia, that wonderful project conceived on July 17th 2003 and almost updated/fiddled with almost every two months! Sorry. Won't be doing this again.
  20. For half a year I have been trying to design "starry void" graphics for BoA that look remotely authentic. Needless to say, it's not half as good as this. Please, please put those graphics up at the Louvre!

Avernum is an antique name for the Underworld, iirc. It is as much under copyright as the names Anaximander, Erika and Hawthorne are. I've seen "Slithzerikai" used in other settings, but it is probably original to Spiderweb Software, as well as Vahnatai. That said, "Ermarian" is fan-invented and therefore - thankfully - not subject to copyright.

From this, some have inferred that whoever Ms Midori was, Jeff doesn't like her very much any more. Why, what's so awful about Midori Province?
  23. Ouch. Raise Logo somehow, I guess. I'm going to an exam in ten minutes, and doing a lot of hectic packing and catching trains after that, and I won't be online until Wednesday evening or possibly even Sunday. See you!
  24. Well, I'm sure the water floors and terrains would be a useful addition to the graphics database. Even if it's technically hard (or impossible?) to make something like this in the actual game, it might be possible to make an underwater cutscene or some such... Oh, and ef? I'm getting a 404 on the System here. Is it my PC, or do you get it too? It's been such a long time since our last big crash...
  25. What are you referring to?
