  1. As if I needed more reasons to adore Joss.
  2. I know I made an account, and I probably posted once or twice. Never really stuck around, though. And now that I tried to go there, it seems the forum doesn't load. It's still http://calref.net/ , right? Odd...
  3. I think we're now manely done with the puns, neigh? (Oh dear, I think I'm infected.)
  4. It's at the end of the animation before the credits, and it's hard to pick out. Dikiyoba knows that Trine shares several sound effects with Spiderweb games. On a totally off-topic note, how did you do that? I can't even quote myself without making an HTML mess. Edit: Oooooh! I see this newfangled and mildly irritating wysiwyg editor is good for something after all.
  5. Perhaps I am. You know I'm a bot. Maybe she built me? But seriously, it's very relieving not to be the coder on call whenever the boards are on fire or something. Four hooves are better than none, or however that goes.
  6. Ever since SV stagnated and it was CalRef's turn to become the foremost (and now only) satellite, I've felt a little twinge that I didn't get in on it earlier. Now there's all this history and I'd feel like an outsider.
  7. I'll probably archive the old forums in the near future, but I don't know of any immediate plans to remove them.
  8. Need any assistance? I think I've had this kind of fun before.
  9. I'm surprised at the CalRef graph having three modes. I've seen many 24h activity curves, and it seems that with sufficient data they all settle down into a single global maximum. Though a small community with a few very active members could probably get a curve that still reflected those members' individual curves.
  10. I don't hear anything either. Is it really at the end of the video, or at the end of the animation before the credits?

... that irony wasn't intentional? *headexplode* Matt Smith just got a TARDIS cake too!

Remember when nobody was implementing the Unicode standards properly so it was barely even possible to reliably display umlauts and accents, let alone complex characters? And all those incomplete character sets in fonts... man, software was awful back then. ♥

A TARDIS and a Myst cake? I love all of you!

<----- is this the face that wrote ten thousand posts? You betcha it is.
  15. It sounds interesting, but woah do those screenshots and descriptions ever make it look like a clone of the Avernum engine.
  16. Irrelevant side note to Slarty's quoted community chart above: Pretty certain I was active in Shadow Vale since early 2007 when Polaris imploded.
  17. Holy wow. So many people resurfacing from the abyss of memory. This thread apparently has the mystical power to summon anyone whose name is mentioned.
  18. That was on Polaris, I think?
  19. There are a surprising number of members who went through that process, though by no means all. I think I'm one of them.
  20. The frustrating part is that before now the Angels' time-bending was justified as a threat despite being theoretically trivial to fix: In Blink the premise was that the Doctor had lost the TARDIS and couldn't save Kathy or Billy since their messages were what brought it back to him. In the Byzantium story, they replaced it with more mundane neck-snapping powers. In the latest episode, the past-sending is back and the only thing stopping the Doctor from fixing it is that "New York is too unstable". Amy could have simply written "Pick us up at X on the date Y." on that last page and then waited there. No paradox as long as they're picked up after she wrote the message. [/rant].
  21. Used to be a straight drop-down. Also, Windows 8 marks the third consecutive Windows version I have never had the misfortune to have to install or use. Very liberating.
  22. In theory, almost everything about the forum output can be skinned. That includes making an optional skin that shows login names instead of PDNs. In practice, login names are private information. They've never been visible to non-moderators, and probably shouldn't be. And choosing a particular PDN from the history and showing that goes way beyond skinning. On the other hand, a greasemonkey script that recognizes members by UID and replaces their PDN with a fixed string is probably doable. It would also allow renaming people you don't like with various unflattering titles only you can see, for much hilarity. I don't really have time or much interest in the idea though, so this would be for someone else to do.
  23. +1. Question presumes a dichotomy that does not exist, because "being" good or evil misleadingly implies doing good precludes doing evil & vice versa. Also an inherent system of morals may simply belong to the same class of fictional concepts as an inherent language. Without even an inherent definition of good and evil, an inherent tendency towards either couldn't exist as a meaningful concept.
  24. My successor has shown to be a worthy pony indeed. Might be interesting to see the stats split by General / Game fora, to identify the impact of game releases more clearly. Side note: I'm unable to back up the post table due to memory issues. I really hope that doesn't mean I'll have to rewrite piperbot again...
