That's not what I am doing. I've never needed excuses to feel that hierarchy between people is wrong. Especially if it's not based on true respect.

  2. I'm currently reading Monster, Naoki Urasawa's manga, in Japanese. I read slowly because I have to learn the vocabulary at the same time but I enjoy it a lot! 🤗

I'm also reading Tommy & Tuppence Mysteries #1 - The Secret Adversary, by Agatha Christie and The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring, Book Two. I noticed lots of differences between the book and the film, especially in the way the film depicts the characters. On the other hand, I find myself disturbed when I find passages in the book that remind me too much of the film... I also find disturbing the master/servant relationship Frodo and Sam are having, which is present in both the book and the film. 🤔

  3. I've started learning Japanese; learning lists of words is so boring to me that I decided to read "real" books in Japanese. I read slowly, learn the vocabulary and the grammar on the way and it feels really better. 😀

The book I chose is マインドクロン (Mindclone) by David T. Wolf.

  4. Hi,

I just bought the whole Geneforge Saga on GoG. I had already bought them on Steam but Steam doesn't provide offline installers for their games, so...

I had started playing Geneforge 1 but I gave up fast because I didn't understand the game and how to play it. I'll go back to it in the future. :)

I also bought Nethergate. I notice that this game doesn't get much attention, why is that? 🤨

Queen's Wish 1 and 2 are not on my GoG list because I bought them directly from the site, which redirects to Humble Bundle.

  5. I am at a loss. I think my party has taken care of the Nephilim fort to the North for Captain Johnson in Fort Duvno but I don't seem to be able to find the proper dialogue to tell him and get a reward of some kind. I couldn't find a way to tell the last prisoner that he could go either.

Anybody knows about that? Thanks! :)

Edit: now that I think of it, I couldn't find a way to actually get the mission to kill the Nephilim boss either...

You can create a brand new one, I'm pretty sure.  Use that "X" button in the upper right to delete a party member, and then... there should be a menu item somewhere that reads something like "Create New PC..."  -- I don't remember if it had location requirements.

I did this: no "Create new PC" option anywhere. Must be in Avernum. :)

  7. Thanks for your help! :)

I ended up creating a new party... My choices were about the same, except that I gave levels in Item Lore to everyone except the mage (not enough points, he'll get some later).

    1. Ian is best at poles,
    2. Arielle is an archer,
    3. Nathan is specialised in trap disarming, locks picking and using poisoned weapons and throwing weapons,
    4. Catherine uses bashing weapons and is knowledgeable in Mage lore, Item lore and Alchemy,
    5. Edwin is the wizard of the group, and is good at Mage lore,
    6. Rayna is the shaman and is also good at Mage lore.

I also changed the graphics; I was using the old ones only, now I'm using the old terrains and Monsters1 sprites alongside all the other new ones. I had to edit Monsters1 because the "living" statues do not use the "not living" statues sprites.

Here is my new party, from the left to the right, Catherine, Edwin, Rayna, Arielle, Nathan and Ian.

  8. Not long after I started playing and it happens that a member of my party is already dead. Generally, I don't allow that to happen in any of my games but, this time, I decided to give it a go.

The character who died is the wizard; I remember that in Avernum we can revive any dead party member in Silvar or we can create a brand new one but I suspect that we cannot do that in Exile. So, does anybody know where I can hire a mage/wizard?

    Thanks! :)

  9. So...

After Ivan [Redacted] created a thread about playing old software on 64bits machines (thank you for that!), I installed Exile. I'm curious about these older games and if there are many differences, apart from the obvious, with the Avernum series, since the Exile games are the first versions of the Avernum series.

... and Avernum are definitely my favourite of Jeff's games. @Spidweb  👋

I created a thread two years ago but I don't want to "necro" it so I asked for it to be locked.

This thread will not be a play through, I intend to post here observations, maybe some questions? In the meantime, if you play Exile too, please feel free to participate and post your experience(s) here! Images are welcome but I'll hardly post some myself.

My first party is composed of six characters: three men and three women:

    • two fighters, one male specialised in pole weapons, one female archer talented at using poisons; both having limited skill at edged weapons,
    • one "roguish" male character, specialised in lock picking, trap disarming, assassination and the like; this one has good skill at using edged weapons,
    • one female "scholar" who can decipher runes, knowledgeable at items and so on; doesn't cast spells, good at bashing weapons,
    • one male mage,
    • one female shaman.

Here, they are, from the bottom and then left to right: Ian, Ariel the archer, Nathan the assassin,  Catherine the scholar, Edwin the mage and Rayna the shaman:

I look forward to hearing from you! :D

... I assume when Jeff finally does remaster these three ..., he'll bring them back in line with his otherwise standard open world ...

If he does that, I'll buy the remastered 4 to 6 then. :)

Avernum is a favorite of mine.

Avernum are the very first video games I ever player. I bought them multiple times, for Mac first, then for Windows. I won't play the remastered ones though; I prefer the originals. I don't think games 4 to 6 are corrupted on my pc, but I'll have to try. Anyway, these three are not my favourite because the open world is missing from them, so, if they don't work, oh well, I won't cry. :)

I also own Geneforge, on Steam, but I have trouble taking to them...

  12. Hi,

Great many thanks to Jeff Vogel for these marvelous games he made for us!

I just bought Queen's Wish 2 - The Tormentor. I was about to play QW 1 again because I don't remember my choices but, after reflection, I decided to wait until the third game has been released... At least I'll be able to play the three games one after another comfortably. :)

In the meantime, I'll play Avernum, the first trilogy, Avadon, the series and I'll restart Exile. :)

    What do you think? ;)

  13. I've began reading Agatha Christie's novels, beginning with the first one The Mysterious Affair at Styles, that I found slightly ... messy. :)

Now reading The Secret Adversary, her second book. It's light and funny, I like it. ;)

My goal is to read all her books in publication order; I just need time...
