  1. Ah that all makes sense. I learned a few things about party builds, which doesn't do much for me now though. This Avernum trip has been an interesting journey.
  2. I'm nearing the end of my torment playthrough and have a big wonder. To save skill points, I mostly relied on the Sage Lore trait for Arcane Lore kind of things. I found it weird when I first came across a book I didn't have enough arcane lore for. Using the editor, I had to increase my arcane lore quite a bit. That's how I found out that sage/Vahnatai lore doesn't apply to everything. I didn't mind it so much until I realized there's a crystal that teaches Resistance that doesn't check Sage Lore. I kind of really want that one point of resistance for some reason. With the way my skill points, I can't temporarily increase arcane lore and restore it back to what it was before. Just feels a bit weird. Maybe I should have put a question in here, or something.
  3. Mercuric chain is a reward for returning the Vyvnas crystal soul. Mercuric plate **might** be from a crafter that is in a small place South-East of Erika's tower. Quicksilver Sandals. Drop from an Infernal Commander in Angierach. I just grabbed this info from the big item list. Here
  4. The brilliant part is: If you are into the general Spiderweb Software formula, there are oh so many games to lose yourself into. Oh, every time I hear the word "neat", my mind instantly goes to the GIFTS.
  5. Yep. I did load a save and set the difficulty to casual so I could see what I missed. I didn't find anything super important, so it was all good.
  6. It was the cold/fire of the golems that was getting me. I realized hardiness helps with that, so in a new build I'd try to give hardiness to everyone. I also want to try getting adrenaline rush for my spell casters. For now though, I'm giving Avernum 2 a try on Torment. The river run was tough at times and I had to leave some things behind, but I made it.
  7. In Avernum 4 - 6, you could right click to see someone/something's HP. I found it weird that it was taken out for the remakes. You get used to it though. If you want more of a UI/QoL shock, go back and play the original Avernum, or even Exile.
  8. I've been trudging along on torment. That start of the game was really rough. Things got easier as I progressed. The giant/Troglodyte plague was actually quite easy. I kept checking options to make sure the difficulty was still set to torment. I kind of hit a wall though. A golem shaped wall. The elemental golems can take out most of my party in two or three cone attacks. Should I have invested in hardiness for everyone? I'd find it hard to decide on what to not put points into so I could have gone into hardiness. My spell casters have maxed resistance. Ward of elements doesn't help too much.
  9. Has anything else on your system changed in that week between playing? I'm not a smart person, but it sounds either like file corruption, or something with the write/read permissions on the files/folders.
  10. I would feel weird changing the difficulty in the middle of the game. It just doesn't sit right with me. I started over on Torment and it is quite the challenge, but doable so far. I have thoughts, or aspirations to have finished all the Avernum games on Torment or the equivalent. For a reference, or something. The first time I played EFTP, it was on normal. In my recent replaying, I went with hard. It was more difficult than I expected. I made it work in the end, but I had to fight for progress. The first time with CS, I restarted partway to start over on hard and finished it. In my replay, hard was fairly easy except for some spots.
  11. Being somewhat new feels weird. It's like I'm looking into a building that has had many awesome parties over the decades, but the building is now mostly quiet. Or something like that. I mostly wanted to make my 100th post here.
  12. I'm replaying this game and I'm at a point where it feels too easy. I'm only playing on hard. I am almost at the filth factory and there isn't much challenge to the fights anymore. I forget if the difficulty ramps up again or just stays steady easyish. I suppose i could just start over on torment, just to see how that goes. I have a mental image in my head of torment being too hard though.
  13. It does make sense that it would happen, but still feels weird. I think it's weirder that I was able to get to the alien slime without killing all 5 slime spawner things. Every other time I played Avernum 3, I remember having to kill all 5 before being allowed into the alien slime's room.
  14. As the title says. I killed the alien slime and it seems that all enemies have despawned. I am just wondering if this is working as intended, or if I ran into some kind of bug here.
  15. No, it is completely doable without blink. It's just that you can skip a bit with blink. It is so weird. I just did this place again yesterday. I looked up this thread today and it just happened to have someone do a 6 year bump.
  16. It works for me, using Chrome. Can you right click the link and 'save as'?
  17. Ah, I see. Thanks. I was half wondering if there was some non-visible bonus going on.
  18. Usually, when an item is worth more than another similar item, it is better in some way. An instance where this doesn't seem to be the case is with the bows in the topic title. Lemonwood (mmm lemon) Bow is worth 4 times more than the Crude Longbow. The Crude Longbow seems to be much better, it even has a +10% to crit chance. Is this just an example of more expensive not being better? Or am I missing something about Lemonwood Bows.
  19. Your essence capacity goes up with levels and points put into "essence mastery" (that's the skill's name, right?).
  20. You'll probably get a bunch of different answers from different people on this. I don't feel I can properly answer this, but I can share how I got into the games. I started with the original Avernum, when I bought the bundle on GoG. If you can deal with the UI it is a great game. The Avernum 1 remake could also be a good starting spot. Or Avadon, or even the recent Geneforge: Mutagen. Again, a hard question for me to answer.
  21. Back in my day, the inventory only had 16 slots. The amount of weight you could carry included everything in the inventory, not just what you were wearing. Playing as a low strength character was... don't want to say annoying, but did have to be dealt with. Living tools themselves weighed 1lb each.
  22. That bundle doesn't include the Avernum 1 - 3 remakes. I assume buying the games straight from this site is the best way if you want Jeff to get most of the money. I don't know much about any cuts that other stores like Steam take. Thanks. It's weird to be so new here.
  23. Hello old person. I mean, long time resident of these boards. I'm not assuming your age. Avernum 4 - 6 are great and well worth a purchase/playthrough. If money is tight, they come in the Avernum 1 - 6 bundles on those fancy game sites. I feel like I robbed Jeff because I got 6 amazing games for less than $20. Geneforge Remake is a grand old time.
  24. I recently finished replaying the Avernum series. I have to say, I felt sad at the end of 6, knowing the adventures are now over (not counting BoA). I feel at this point, there isn't much that can be done with the series that hasn't been done before. Still, another entry in the series would be welcome.
