You can get through the final area on even torment difficulty with the maximum penalty.

Thanks good to know. I think I'll change some runes back to +hit. I hadn't needed them for a while.

Pff I put difficulty on casual. Lower hit rate and lower damage numbers were turning the endgame into a grind. I don't like grinding.

It's a good game but I was caught off guard by this. That's on me.

  2. I'm currently in the endgame for QW2, trying to move into the final area but I misunderstood how upkeep works and I'm about 10 stone down. This is also in part due to keeping the governor in Low Dhaga leading to massive amounts of theft.

I used the anvil to get theft down as much as possible but I'm still down 10 stone leading to 20% less accuracy and damage making combat and absolute drudge :/ is there any fix for this that doesn't involve replaying the entire game? I can't seem to destroy buildings.

  3. I'm still playing but I'm trying to play into the Ro's hand because if I ever challenge Sutter to be king, it helps to have 2 strong vassals on my side. Because that's how it's always been in history, you can't depose a king without support of a strong military faction. This is also why I need the governors to be indebted to me, to support my inevitable rebellion. That shouldn't make me a clown, it should make me a real threat.

It's probably going to ruin the ending for me, but I'm roleplaying this the way it makes sense to me.

  4. I finished both legs of the story and hot damn if this isn't one of the best RPGs ever. Throughout my journey it was a sad realization that so many people aren't ever going to play this, not since it's this old.

It took me a long time to learn the interface and how the oldskool controls work, and it never became smooth for me. But I'm so happy I powered through that because the story was beyond my expectations (which are high by default for spiderweb).

For other new people, the game itself is less than 2 euros on most stores, so I also bought the hintbook which was a tremendously useful resource at several times. Between that and piercing sight, the best spell in the game, the game became a beautiful adventure. As for basilisks ... if you play the story, you're automatically going to receive an item that helps you with that so note down where they are and forget about them for a bit.

I want to back but don't like being forced into opening an account with another privacy black hole to learn about.....

I know this is old but for geneforge mutagen, I missed it until the kickstarter was aleeady over. I tossed him an email and did it over paypal. You can find my name in the credits ;)

    i joined kickstarter for qw2

  6. So I've been struggling my way lately through N:R and I think my thoughts mimic that of most people who've played it.

I absolutely love the setting. I'm a big classic era geek. Being able to play both Romans and the peoples they conquered (with a bit of imagination this could all take place in Belgium under Ambiorix' uprising) is one of the most unique things in RPG. It takes effort to work my way through it but it's so worth it.

I'm just struggling against an outdated UI. In the beginning, the FOV thing is so jarring, even after many hours. I'm so happy that the skill system is kinda similar to Avernum and Geneforge, because I'd be combatting that too.

This game deserves to be remade. If not, one can dream that these games go open source when Jeff Vogel retires. Geneforge and Avernum aren't going to disappear any time soon, they will remain playable and comfortable, but Nethergate .... there's a day in the not-so-far future when nobody will play this gem anymore and that's a shame.

Dem Runner up -- Guy with limited grasp on reality who still would have had an embarrassing loss against an opponent who was helping drive high democrat participation

Which part of knowing that medicare for all, in the middle of a pandemic, has an almost 80% approval rate amongst americans is "limited grasp on reality"? And how on earth could running on such a popular policy lead to anything other than a 45 state landlide? And in reality, government run healthcare is trillions of dollars cheaper than a private run system.

What you're describing is wishful thinking by republican establishment but, again from a european perspective, it's not Bernie Sanders who has a limited grasp on reality. His ideas are extremely popular and cheaper than the status quo.

American politics are weird, almost unrelated to perceptible reality.

Some of the cultural differences are the value that American culture has traditionally placed on economic freedom.  While it is not explicitly called out the way freedom of speech, press, etc are, economic freedom (self made person, etc) is a strong cultural value.  It was in fact one of the reasons why people left Europe to come to America and has continued to be important to many immigrants to the US.  Economic freedom is valued by many as greater than economic security.  If the Republican Party had a logical immigration policy, they would increase the quotas for immigrants coming in for economic freedom.  I have know a lot of people who came (or their parents came) to this country to escape socialist paradises.  Prettying the wording up by calling it democratic socialism does not give them a warm fuzzy since most of the places that they choose to leave, usually with great discomfort and sometimes with great risk, called themselves socialist democracies or socialist republics.

Thats a heap of bs. Americans might want to believe they like freedom more than other countries, but I dont see a nazi becoming president in Germany ever again. Chances of VB becoming a majority party in Belgium is close to zero. We learned our lesson after you liberated us. We actually vote for freedom, economic or otherwise.

Im sorry but that kind of american exceptionalism doesnt work on me (or most other non-americans). From where Im sitting, freedom is the one thing americans fear more than anything.

  9. Biden is to the right of our right wing party and barely to the left of our fascists here in Belgium. I just don’t understand how the right wing minority in the usa cant be happy with Biden or how the left wing supermajority gets duped into not voting or voting for biden/obama/clinton.

like, the polls indicate a 60+% approval for someone like Bernie Sanders, a centrist in every other democracy in the world.

tldr USA politics makes no sense from a european perspective

  10. I can’t remember this back-and-forth item hauling to have been necessary in Geneforge 1. I just experienced that game without too much metagaming and that was fine

In G3 i changed the weight of all items to 1, effectively creating a junk bag. Life’s too short for grinding

  11. In preparation for Mutagen I decided it was finally time to tackle Geneforge 5. After a typical early game struggle, I started loving this game. The endgame dungeons were great and the final assault ... awesome. I shouldn't have wasted so many living tools though :p If I replay (or in the remake of 5) I will remember to hoard more tools for the endgame.

I played for peace (Astoria route). Boring I know. The conclusion was great, and I even shed a tear when the Rebel lands got their name. That's how you properly bookend such a journey.

If Mutagen wasn't on the horizon, I'd be reinstalling Geneforge 1 right now.

Gender doesn't seem to play any role in the rank of someone in Shaper society. Astoria is a female Shaper boss, Greta is the rebel leader of humans, Litalia was before her.
The ultra-conservative Shapers were not shown to be male-dominance. They were conservative on their own thing.

I didnt say male dominance. I said rigid gender roles, like how only women can be agents.

  13. Am I the only one who'd also like to make a left-handed character? Seeing my avatar swing their baton with their right hand feels very weird and janky.

Of course choosing gender for would be logical, especially for the rebels. Ultra-conservative sects like the shapers having rigid gender roles could be explained away but historically, almost all rebel movements had female combatants. It's the only way to win against a stronger enemy.

  14. It sure seemed like you were complaining about people who have no free time and also don't read books.

Capitalism or not (I prefer not) , I really don't understand why people complain about games being less terrible, with fewer dull mechanics. That's a good development.

Maybe next time try to be more clear. It didn't come across nice what you were writing. I like games that respect my time, for whatever reason (although I prefer reasons other than my income). I don't know how old you are but posts like yours, I couldn't write today, but I could when I had zero cares in the world. Unfortunately, I had to grow up but trust me, I wish I didn't have to. Between time or responsibilities+income, I'd choose time.

Sign of the times; let's make games for people who pretend that they have limited time and have "a lot of other games to play".

Yeah, I was answered that once. The worst is that this kind of behaviour from players is going to be that default mode. How many people are willing to read a book nowadays?

That'd be me. Between work, kids, wife, sports and books... I barely know how to finish a comfortable game, let alone one with unnecessary drudgery

Since people like me make signicantly more than when I actually had time, I find it logical that games cater to people with disposable income.

I think it's great that games have become respectful of their fans' time.

As for books. I recently read Ulysses. It was okay, but not nearly as good as The Familiar series which has similar postmodern trappings. What did you read?

  16. is there a demo for the iOS version I missed? I just recently got a company iPhone and this would be one great game to play in the hotel on a work trip.

just want to see how the controls work out on this small screen
