OK, don't mind when or where I kill him, it's just that I can't get through to that area at all, although I used to be able to get there. So I can't reduce him to half-health or whatever. Do I have to leave the ziggurat by the front door instead and search elsewhere for Garzahd? Or am I missing some hidden switch in the upper tower?

Well, I grabbed the Crystal Soul in the Ziggurat and ran. I had already retrieved the other two souls.

Now I'm back in the Ziggurat to finish off Garzahd, but I can't find him. There seems to be no switch or weak wall that will give entry to the open area where he and his gang chased me previously.

Have I lost him and that fight forever? Or am I just missing something as usual?

Oh yes. I got spoiled by the fact that the library in Patrick's Tower is actually labelled. Should have known better than to expect that everywhere.

Now that I've destroyed the Empire portal, Mahdavi tells me that my reward is 2 green books in the library that will be very good for me. The only library I can find in the game is in Patrick's Tower and there's nothing there that I can discover. Is there another library somewhere? Or have I missed something in Patrick's Tower? Help, pls.

I'm through the Third Barrier and can't figure out what to do when I come to the water. No boat there. Looks like a dead end. Have looked all over for buttons or loose bricks or alternate entrances but don't find anything.

Any clues would be welcome.

OK, where can I find out how to use the character editor? At this stage in the game, I'm coming up against the really hard fights and I just know they're not going to turn out well without the high end spells. And I really don't want to start all over. I don't even have a really old save file.

I've had a few opportunities to learn more mage spells (fireblast and up) but whenever I try to buy them, I get a message that says something like "You don't have high enough mage skills to learn these spells". My Mage is at Level 32 and her Mage level is 11. Can't get any of my party higher than Level 32. Have I somehow lost the opportunity to get the higher spells, including the valuable looking Arcane trio? Any suggestion on what I can do to fix this?

My Priest is doing fine.

Thanks, Randomizer. Today is obviously not a high-patience day for me. Much appreciated.

So I am stuck in Athron's Lair and can't get past that little section where there are 4 control panels and 4 gates. So of course, Athron won't talk to me even though I told him that Erika sent me. Seems like I've tried every sequence of control panels that I can think of. This has gone on for a long time. I'm willing to use any spoiler anyone can suggest.

And, how many more of these before Athron will speak to me? I managed to prove myself to Erika, but Athron is just another problem altogether.

1. Playing Avernum-Crystal Souls. Have finished everything in the Coffin Cave along the Vahnatai river, but don't have piercing crystals or Dispel spell. Need to get into the last room in the NE of the cave to pick up the half-scroll and whatever other goodies are in there. Can't go back up the river to Formello to pick up a piercing crystal. How can I get through that barrier?

2. Once the coffin cave is finished, it looks like a dead end. How do I carry on to the Vahnatai from here?
