  1. Well, this is quite easy to handle with a bit of modding IMO: Give yourself the claymore in the first zone of GF1 and play in a harder mode, veteran or torment.
  2. While I honestly like your post, I disagree on it on a few points. For the easy and quick things: I don't see the Awakened as only possible because of "favorable position", as I don't think their area is inherently better. The inutile village that the Awaken protect is the 'privileged' area that is shielded from enemies. All three settlements are South of the deserts and badlands of the North and the rogues. Now, on your thesis above, I find one ... I wouldn't say 'flaw', I would say 'omission'. The Creator in most prevalent religions, may not be perfect like Abrahamic religions' God, but the Creator is inherently much much better than the creation, and different class of being. Spirit, intangible entity etc. The Shapers are not. Both Creator and Creation are flawed and they run with more or less the same flaws. They are mortals and they have mortal needs. The worldview of the individual shaper is limited by his or her experiences. The worldview of the collective Shaper Empire is also limited. The Shapers are not perfect, they are just more magically powerful than their Creations. Part of what you say, could apply to the Drakons when they Shape things, but Drakons, while genetically better than most creations are still... biological creatures that happen to be more powerful than their peers. Peers that they may have created themselves, but still peers. Even the Drakons realize that. Their approach on the issue of who commands and the "lesser species" is not the Shaper approach of "I created you, you owe me everything." It is an approach of "I am more powerful and (I believe I am) wiser so follow what I say." The human side of the Rebellion sees the Drakons as new reptilian Shapers but that goes because humans are not creations nor they were treated as creations by the Shapers. The Creations know the Drakons are different. Buttholes, but not Shapers - and as you said it's a whole different huge discussion of whether one should follow someone that is a butthole because it is convenient or 'the lesser evil'. To return to the Shapers, I think an example of what I am trying to say would be a tree that it has been modified to create a different type of plant with its seed. Would the different-trees be inherently lower than the original? No, I don't think so. Same with the Serviles. They are not as smart as Shapers and they are not magically gifted - because the Shapers forcefully cut out of them the ability to yield magic, until Tuldaric gave it back to them. Sure, Tuldaric was a Shaper, but that's not my point here. What I mean is that "More powerful" or "Smarter" or "with the magic abilities to make things" does not equate to "I deserve to be obeyed" neither means that such a better creature deserves worship. The Drakons which are objectively very powerful creations, genetically better than humans (including the Shapers) and serviles, don't require the w+orship of anyone, creation or human. Shapers don't require the Worship of creations either, they want their service, not their faith. A creation that doesn't idolize a Shaper but follows orders is not considered a rogue. For me, Pentil was emotionally heavy too. I agree it had the feeling of 'coming home' that was very well built. I crawled into Pentil half dead from the $%#$ Vlish outside. Those very Vlish is part of the reason that I hover between Awakened and Takers instead of joining the Takers. It was described as "that's the serviles you're used to". It was nice and safe. But then, I saw Serviles spending considerable resources in maintaining old records that their main value was just the value assigned to them by the Serviles and their real value was just as curiosities and historical texts of "oh, so that's how much flour the locals needed through that hard winter 132 years ago..." I felt sorry for them. But they don't see it that way. They are reminding me of kids that were abandoned by their father, had to live a harsh life being raised by their single mother and that ... they practically worship their father. And there are such cases of people that even into adulthood, refuse to accept their father was a butthole. To end and gather the whole thing together: I don't see the Shapers as the equivalent, or even close to a Creator deity. They are biological, imperfect creatures with more or less the same needs and flaws of their creations. They are much more like parents of pre-industrial, agrarian societies that had kids in large part because they needed a cheap workforce. Being more powerful because you yield magic (or because you were Shaped as bigger, stronger, smarter, with fiery breath etc) doesn't mean you are not equal to those that are not as gifted. Having fathered/created a living thing under these conditions does not give you the rights to abuse it or demand obedience after 5 generations after leaving the ancestors of the creatures you made to die. Last quick note: I agree with the Awakened in morality, but knowing the Shapers ... I believe the Takers are the way to go. I don't ally with sects because I don't want to kill anyone and I don't have the persuasion required to make them see it (i.e. I don't have leadership 10+ mechanically)
  3. Oh, the absolutism of choices... I think you finally nailed what was kinda bugging me with GF3. EDIT: Nah, I still think it was the way the Rebels were presented. It is no secret that I have no love for the Shapers and I prefer the anti-Shaper factions from all geneforge games... except GF3.
  4. Litalia in GF3 is like the Yandere that comes for you after killing everyone you ever knew.
  5. I have to say two things: - I agree with the above quote - Yes, you are the only one that doesn't dislike the boats.
  6. Completely opposite of the above: I found the Ghaldring ending the best as you crush the tyrannical Shaper Empire - I only felt sorry for Astoria - and you get your boot warm by sticking up Rawal's rear end as a bonus. In the end, after crushing the Shapers you break the chains of the Drakons before they become new Shapers bringing an utopia where the people that Shape are not trampling on the corpses of the creatures they shape and the monsters needed for the Rebellion to win the world disappear. Astoria's end, with an uneasy truce is the 2nd best. The butthole councilors survive but half the world is liberated. It will probably lead to another ideological war down the line but perhaps not and perhaps that war will not be a war of complete subjugation of the serviles and complete genocide of the thinking creations like the Drayks and the Gazers. The Rebel ending in GF4 left me ... ambivalent which is a good thing. After so many hours, I wanted the Rebels to win, even if it meant unleashing the horror of the Unbound. It made me question things and think and generally it was moving. Of course it was a "WHAT HAVE I DONE?" but it led to a question "Would I do it again?" and the answer came up as "... probably?" The Unbound were unleased on an unsuspecting population, traumatizing and victimizing simple people. But it was between horrendous civilian casualties on one side or complete obliteration for the other side. In the end, I would choose to sacrifice the lives of 10% of the innocents of the other side in order to avoid the loss of 100% of the lives of our side. Now, the "What Have I Done?" is at its worse through Litalia's path in GF5. No, not in the end. By the end you have already done countless terrorist acts. Breaking the Line. Unleashing the shredbugs to lead the population to a slow, undignified death from starvation. Unleashing a plague. By the end, I was numb.
  7. Ιt could fire backwards perhaps. Ejecting the thorn from the side facing the shaper instead the usual business end.
  8. That is the extend of the rogue-ness of living tools? Trying to crawl away and express annoyance? 😁 Well, maybe I will ask for a rogue baton then. One that shoots you when you try to pick it up.
  9. I was not planning on it being "hilarious" as much as eyebrow raising and being a side-effect of a rogue Rot. But as I said, we're a loooong way from that date, I don't know what my financial situation would be like at the time (i.e. if I could reach the tier to insert minor things) and I would probably have changed my mind.
  10. I am thinking of throwing in a dancing Rotdhizon but I change what I think on this matter like every week.
  11. On that though... each level increases control by one while it increases creation's level = need for control by two. Which means unless you raise Shaping slowly to keep in pace with your character level, you will sooner or later have issues with control. And THEN you will need to throw in a point in a different Shaping skill.
  12. Keep in mind that if your creations are much stronger than you, they may go rogue at the worse possible moment and kill you. Also, I keep a Cryora and a Fyora. My suggestion also is: Do not diversify your shaping tree too early! It is better to have Fire Shaping at 5 than to have Fire Shaping at 3 and battle shaping at 3. Only later, when you have Fire Shaping like 8 and it costs a lot to raise it while the control gets tougher, get a point in magic shaping or battle shaping because each point in any shaping skill increases your overall control
  13. Creations turning on their masters is a constant fear of the Shapers as you have found out in practice and soon you will also find out in lore that the Shaper - Creation bond is not always peachy. I can't say more since it would be spoilers but remain assured that creations attacking you is very much NOT a bug and it is an important aspect of the world and the power of the Shapers. Now, about why the creation appears charmed when it is rogue, I have no explanation aside of what @googoogjoob said.
  14. Welcome to some awesome game series. NOTE: If you want to avoid spoilers, be very careful what threads you read. There are many awesome twists and surprises in the games and also some not-clear moral questions that you would probably want to deal with without being influenced by our views.
  15. I have found out that the command to add NPCs to the party (the one used in GF3-5) doesn't work. I haven't found a way to add serviles etc in my party. EDIT: I am talking about modding the game. And so far, I can't find a script command that adds NPCs to the party although I can't say I have done any exhaustive search.
  16. This editor doesn't allow you to do that. There are ways to give yourself items through the script of course, but it has to be modded in.
  17. I would be more interested in greater variance between the existing tiers. I.e. to have more tier 1/2/3/4 options.
  18. BUY training for leadership? I didn't know it was possible in GF1. Thank you. I will hold off choosing a faction till I get the Girdle. Or, if I go for too long, I will simply buy leadership 10. I am at leadership 8 right now and have 5 skill points left-over.
  19. When you say "very high leadership"... what are we talking about? Also, is there any leadership boosting item?
  20. I have loaded after killing the Sholai and I was very pro-Awakened till I found Kazg. Now I am ... ambivalent. Both factions appeal to me. I am not going to whack anyone for the other's side mob boss. I honestly wish there was an option to make them stop fighting. I planned to wipe out the Sholai or hit them hard once I was able to, but now I see they are needed if the Serviles are to be free (in the GF1 narrative). Knowing what comes next I am less inclined to hop in with them and I have not talked to any Sholai yet (I don't know the language) to see what they think of the Serviles. But, my main goal in this game is to make the serviles at least lessen their infighting. Which, I admit means beating back the Takers as they have gone powermad and dropped in bed with the Sholai and throw monsters at all the others. The Sholai started the whole whooha but the Takers continue it. And yet, the Takers are what the Serviles need. I agree more, much more, with the Awakened but the Shapers would never listen to them. The Geneforge, an army of Shaped and Shaping invaders and cannisters are needed for the Serviles to break free and perhaps, one day, be able to discuss with Shapers.
  21. They have small and under-developed organs according to the lore I've read. And presumably, short lifespans.
  22. I think the Rotdhizon in GF2 was able to speak in a primitive way, but I may be wrong. Also, it may have been retro-ed in later games even if that was the case since GF2 was the first game that introduced Rotdhizons. As for Rotgroth's rotting... aside of the name, I don't recall them rotting. The smell of rot-and-vinegar is what Essence smells like I think.
  23. I would love to continue this discussion, but I would do so in the other forum, for the not-remade Geneforge games.
