Don't know how I missed that but thank you

So I am attempting to complete Dionicio's quest to find out what is in the east tower. Only problem is I have found the hidden switches, gone up the stair's, looked about in the tower, attempted to read the spell book (without sufficient lore) and drunk the odd stagnant water yet Dionicio continues to ask me to complete the quest. What am I missing?
