Mica:
I guess if you don't know how to play the game efficiently, you'd probably use Fireblast over Bolt of Fire against a single fire vulnerable opponent.Quote:The spellbook isn't precious, it's rubbish (who ever uses bolt of fire?).
Of course the spellbook is precious, Lvl 3 spells are rare. What mage would turn up the opportunity for more power? And even if they didn't want to learn the spell, why not sell it?
-
A good party is 2 mages, and 2 priest/mages. Although you spend a LOT of cash on magery.
-
Mica:
Then why not take the spellbook? Only the Anama would leave a precious magical relic behind in the sewers...Quote:- it is far more likely to have been a rival mage.
-
Does anyone here actually use potions? Strength potions have a nifty regenerative effect, and heroic brew gives you what Divine Warrior used to, but everything else isn't that flash. Spells can substitute potions.
Hence, is investing Alchemy worthwhile?
-
Yes. You don't lose out of much EXP, though. Then gain, I'd rather have my own creation than Greta or Alwan.Quote:
1. Does taking Alwan and Greta with you cause you to share exp. between them and your creations? You can get all of Tier 3 (except Create Drayk) at Dhonal's Keep from Lady Anjah (sp?)Quote:
2. Where can you get tier 3 & 4 Shaping training for the loyalists?
You can get Create Rotgroth from Khyrk (sp?) on Gull Island. All the other Tier 4 creations much be learned by being shaped/canisters.There is a Create Drayk canister in Dhonal's Keep...Quote:
3. Where can you find good canisters for shaping creations? No, although save up on living tools so you can obtain his canisters.Quote:
4. Is killing Lankan a bad choice for a pro-shaper?Guardian Claymore, Dhonal's Keep. You'll need to do some hiding from the guards, but the claymore gives a strength bonus to you and your creations.Quote:
5. What items increase strength and where can I find them? -
I never used pick-up creations in GF 2. My own creations were far more efficient.Quote:
um, because of the same reason as why every person that joins you count as your creation??? -
LOL. Well, it doesn't make sense. You didn't create Alwan, so why should be considered as your creation?Quote:
I don't want to sound arrogant or mean but you call yourself a Geneforge veteran, yet you recently found out that Alwan counts as a creation??? -
Once you take off your creation stat boosting equipment, your creation looses those stats!
BTW, I noticed that Alwan counts as a Creation! HMMM...
And does anyone here know how much damage reduction a piece of armour with 12% armour has?
-
To be honest, and rather arrogant, I consider myself a Geneforge veteran. I've played through all 3 Geneforge's about a thousand time. During this time, I have found the Shaper to be the best character.
Especially the 'sacrificial' Shaper, who does everything for his creations. Invest in intelligence, shaping, blessing and healing, NOTHING else. This includes battle/blessing magick.
My 'sacrificial' Shaper model often involves wearing items such as the 'Sharing belt' (-2 DEX, +2 DEX and STR), and 'the Transference Robe') (-2 DEX/-2 STR/-2 END, +2 STR/DEX/END to creations)
I never travel heavy (I can't, otherwise I am encumbered and can't heal/bless creations). I sacrifice heavy armour so that I can stay in the action by healing/blessing.
Does anyone else here use items which are detrimental to their Shaper, but give their creations an appreciable boost? Just curious...
-
Meh. There is an EXP bug on the 4th island as well. Just keep asking that human guard (Corrie) if she's the daughter of Phasia.
-
I played an all-mage party, and I found summons ESSENTIAL. I must have summoned 50+ monsters, and they wiped out all the demons which were summoned when you destroyed the trogo altar. Fun!
-
Well, at least Itsuart doesn't call a 'Drakon' a 'Dragon'.
-
As someone who used an all-mage party, I found the Anama's preachings insulting and arrogant. I decimated them, and stole their treasure.

-
That's not true. If you play as a canister-mad loyalist, you still fight loyally for the Shaper Council in the end. In fact, I am willing to bet that being buffed on canisters makes you more effective at killing rogues.Quote:
Yes, in theory. But in practice the arrogance would mean that as soon they asked you to do something, you'd say that you were above the task and not listen. You haven't finished the game, have you?Quote:
Plus, YOU would be an illegal creature. They'd kill you.
If you finish the game as a loyalist who has used many canisters, they are suspicious, but admit that they need your power. They give you an army, and you take the fight to the rogues. -
A lot of Geneforge veterans here continually whine about how they would like to see more Creations in Geneforge. My simple question is this. People have already made character editors, and scripts to make your Shaper glow. Why can't they make a script/mod to allow for the Shaping of a War-Bred Servile, or something along those lines?
-
Not necessarily... You need all the power you can get to fight the rogues in this time of crisis.Quote:
but that that noes change the fact that Shaping yourself is obviously a poor idea.
They strip away your humanity, but a canister-mad loyalist is still as loyal to the Shapers as a purist Shaper.
mok:Yes! The Waylander trilogy is one of my fav's by David Gemmel.Quote:
EDIT: btw, Waylander -- you get that name from David Gemmel's book(s)? -
I finally finished role-playing as a very loyal loyalist shaper in Torment. I did whatever necessary to help the Shaper cause.
Surprisingly, it wasn't to difficult, once again confirming my long held belief that the Shaper is the best PC (why do you think the Guardian and Agent are submissive to them, eh?). I didn't use canisters or allow myself to be shaped. The Battle Alpha + Cryoa was quite a pleasing combination throughout the game, but I replaced the Battle Alpha with a Rotgroth at the end. Roamers are pretty good creations as well.
I didn't steal Lord Rahul's goods. I crushed every rogue and traitorous servile in existence. In every battle where I had loyal soldiers as allies, I ensured that they survived the battle so that they could continue the battle against the rogues.
However, while role-playing as a very loyal shaper, I ran into a moral dilemma. Should I use the canisters? Although against Shaper Laws, using the canisters greatly increases my abilities to fight the rogues. It seems... wasteful... to allow any rogue/rebel shaper to use those canisters.
IMHO, as a loyal shaper, it is your duty to use those canisters. As a loyal shaper, you are meant to be willing to sacrifice yourself for the Shaper cause. Why not your sanity?
Anyone else here played as a loyalist Shaper without canisters? Have fun? What creations did you use?

It looks OK to me. In fact, it reminds me of the old DOS programs...Quote:
As you can see it's not very nice to look at(i'll work on this in the next releases)

To be honest, I didn't enjoy Geneforge 3 at all. Geneforge 1 and 2 are wonderful, but Geneforge 3 is just a bore.Quote:
What I can see though, is that it just doesn't atract me as Avernum atracts me.
I can understand the comment about Avernum. After playing Exile and Avernum, Geneforge was completely alien. It took me a while to get into it, and once I did, I was hooked. Geneforge 1 is the best, and Geneforge 2 is slightly less compelling (although still great). GF 3 was a letdown.
If you want to get the best of Geneforge, try Geneforge 1. -
Oh, you're right. I had 7 drayks by Gull Island (I never bothered to count, I always assumed 8 due to eight portraits).Quote:You were lying, you cant have eight drayks.
-
Oh yeah. I was playing on Torment.Quote:Folks, you've got to specify the difficulty level when discussing this kind of thing.
-
There is a lot of talk about how the Guardian has been 'nerfed'. I finally decided to give him a go, after becoming bored with the Shaper and Agent. In my opinion, the difficulty of the game is the same for both Shaper and Agent (aka. piece of cake. I had eight Drayks by the time I reached Gull Island. YAAWWWWNNNNN).
I first tried a missile Guardian (since everyone was ranting about the 'effectiveness' of missiles), which was a dismal failure. I sank points into dexterity and luck (so I could dodge and avoid damage). As a result, I could dodge the worms, but not a battle alpha. Don't bother trying to invest in luck or dexterity, it comes back to bite you on the backside... HARD.
I had to sink points into missile weapons. Also melee weapons, because you can't always shoot from a distance. Strength so that I could wear heavy armour, carry all of the javelins, and do some damage via melee in an emergency.
No points in intelligence or blessing magick.
The problem with this assignment of points was the lack of specialization. I was getting my butt handed to me by the second isle. Discipline wands don't make up for it. Terror wands are good, but they are far too few, and don't do enough damage.
I tried a second character. Many points went into endurance, melee, and strength. The most went into quick action. Later on, 3 points went into blessing magick, and then I bumped intelligence up.
At first, this character was rather weak, but then he really started to shine. He was not nearly as capable as an agent or Shaper, but could hold his own.
The most vital skill for a Guardian is Quick Action. Since the melee damage has been nerfed, and Parry is almost worthless, Quick Action is essential if you are to get the drop on your enemies. Quick Action gives you the initiative (you can decide whether to run, fight, or cast a spell). If not for my heavy investment in Quick Action, I would have had my clock cleaned in the Vlish Woods. Playing the Guardian in GF3 is like playing the Agent in GF1.
I purchased Battle Blessing on the first island, and it really gave me the edge. Augmentation gave me my second edge, and on Dhonal's I purchased Essence Shield. This allowed me to go toe to toe with Battle Alpha's and glaahks. My high strength gave me 100% resistance to stun. Another advantage is the AP system, which is made for Guardian. When fighting a battle alpha, you can chug a healing potion and take a swipe in the same round.
However, by this time, I was REALLY taking a hammering. Without war blessing, the high quick action, speed pods, augmentation and essence shield, I would not have been able to reach the Creator's Hall.
Finally, I reached Gull Island with 100+ spell points. At last I could cast Speed. Then things started to turn in my favour.
Slaughtered serviles, cyroas and vlish which would fall beneath my blade without doing a shred of damage. Battle betas whose fists needed to strike me at least 7 times before felling me. It was still difficult, but manageable. Speed is a lifesaver. I no longer had to rely on the speed pods and spores scattered throughout the game.
Once I reached Icy End, I was torn between sinking more points into blessing magick so that I could cast Essence Armour, or invest them in endurance and melee. I chose the latter.
It was a difficult end game, and it took me quite a bit of hopping back and forth to complete, but finally my Guardian stood victorious.
To be honest, it was far more enjoyable then the missile Guardian. There is something noble about wading into the thick of it with the other soldiers in the infested valley. There is nothing more satisfying than crossing blades and crushing your enemy with quick action.
Some quick points
- Quick Action is essential.
- There are several instances where Discipline Wands are ESSENTIAL.
- Vlish who use poison bolts do a lot of damage, despite my Guardian having high poison resistance.
- The Guardian Claymore is the best weapon. The Stunning Blade is worthless.
- Speed saves the day.
Anyone else have info on how to survive as a Guardian?

I notice that you're not a moderator here, so it might be a good idea if you quit your whining.Quote:Topics should not be revived unless you have something important to add.
Notice that the title of this thread is "What's your favourite creation?" I answered that question. I don't see the problem here... I think you're just jumping at a chance to exert your non-existent authority. -
Well, you can't really 'finish' Exile, but there are three major missions you must complete.
1. Slay Grah-Hoth (begins by slaying the Slith King).
2. Assassinate Emperor Hawthorne.
3. Find an exit to the surface.
Of course, it's a little more complex than that. For instance, to begin your little assassination quest, you'll need to visit Erika, and then collect brooches to use the teleporter.
