The remakes have additional material, a few more zones to visit. Story wise, you don't miss anything.

Ah yes I had figured so that they would just be little tweaks here and there with them. To be fair I feel the best way to enjoy the story of Exile would be with the 6 characters and the vastly more complex inner-makings such as the valuable books of dozens of spells and so forth would honestly make the enjoyment of the story much better than the simplicity of Avernum

  2. I bought this one ages ago on steam and never played it. I started a quest recently since I am currently unable to properly complete my Exile 3 quest because of my lack of old enough hardware to properly play and enjoy the game how it was meant to be.

I gotta though say, Avernum is very clean and I love the Immersion. I am saddened however by the lack of 2 extra party members but I'll live. I haven't delved into a good battle yet though as I just got to the castle and looking around for now. Following meryhews orders and such. I just spoke with one of the Vahnatai at the castle however and he mentions the "end" this caused me to chuckle. Like who does he think he is? Avernum Ending? What is this alien on. There is never an end when it comes to such resourceful warriors and adventurers of Avernum.

    One side note though.

Does it matter if I started on Avernum 6 instead of 1? I don't really wish to bother with the original 3 Avernums seeing as they are remakes of the original Exile trilogy so would starting on Avernum 4 suffice?

  3. I would opt to just run this game on a cheap old ThinkPad that runs windows xp or windows 95 also is a great choice to run this game on as well if you don't want to hassle around with Emulators that typically cannot properly render the graphical transitions anyways (such as spell orbs not rendering or being instant traveled to the target which takes away from the experience in my opinion)

It's a message from Berra in Fort Emergence from near the middle of the game.

You give Berra the crystal shards from the caves below the giant fortress. He moves off to test them, then returns. "Well, it's not conclusive, but the Vahnatai are the true masters of magic using crystals. This may have been made by them."

    Interesting. Thank you

  5. Does anyone else encounter this? When in the spells menu, right clicking on any spell buttons will usually pull up the "spell help" description for that spell but the game will also pull up dialogues when you right click on the "other spells" and "cancel" button, which is just blank, but when right clicking the "Cast" button on the mage spells menu I get this weird dialogue box.

It was discovered, upon examining the code, that Bows skill was completely non-functional in legacy BoE due to a programming error. Thrown Missiles skill worked, I think.

    Does archery function now?

  7. For years ive just been casually playing the Exile Trilogy and never actually tried or even purchased any newer titles from this company to play. The only reason I actually am even here is because I fond Exile 3 Ruined World on a shareware disc when I was 10 years old and played the demo until I had to email spiderweb for the unlock key (which was actually free too) lol. I might look into buying one of the newer games I guess, I just haven't liked that you don't get 6 party members.

  8. What would be better for me to use. Crossbows or Bows. I'd choose crossbows but im wondering if Bolts can be poisoned or not. or is it only arrows that can be poisoned. or is this not even possible because only the item "poison arrows" are poisoned arrows

Still planning to do that? It's been like two days and I haven't seen anything.

I do apologize about this ive been busy with work and having to work alot of hours. If and whenever I am even here I only have a few minutes. I looked and there are no more descriptions for the scenarios on the wayback machine. Most were lost

At the moment the best you can do is download each one individually from the earlier link, sorry.

I'm gonna start a private message with you and paste the descriptions of the scenarios I could find had them on the Truesite Snapshots.

Sure! However, Duck did ask for a copy of all the scenarios a little earlier in the thread. While he posted a workaround involving bash, I thought that I would put up a more conventional download link; it might help anyone in future that stumbles across this thread looking for something similar, but is not confident in using bash commands.

    Sorry for the confusion!

Too late I already clicked 343 times and downloaded everything individually lol

If you could give me a list of all the descriptions and the corresponding downloadable filename, that should be helpful. I could probably use regexes or something to transform it to the required format. (EDIT: Also it doesn't need to be in any particular order, if that helps.)

ADoS: Any objections to using the formatting on my website's download list for the scenario list on openboe.com? It means copying a couple of files from my website to openboe.com.

Why yes i can certainly do that. I'll get right to it after tonight

ADoS: Is this where you're putting them now or was that already there?

Could we get a brief (one or two sentence) description of each scenario in that list (including the scenario's actual title)? I'd like to insert said description into the "Description" column on that page. (It'd probably be better to have a proper index.html, but adding a description would be better than doing nothing.)

Would you like any help with that Celtic? Would just be copy paste over and over from the snapshots

I guess both CalRef and TrueSite are down unfortunately... and I'm not sure if there's another place that hosts all the scenarios. The download links on my site still work, but I don't have any stable builds up there.

Let me try Wayback Machining Truesite I'll see what i can find

Huh? The version from Spiderweb's site should be able to run all existing scenarios with the exception of Sylae's more recent one (I forget what it was called though). It's true that it can't show more than a certain number of scenarios in the scenario selection dialog, but you can get around that by manually moving around the scenario files. I guess it's a bit tedious but it should work.

What happen to the version you gave me that was in a zip archive?

  16. Nevermind I found the Links through the chat.

Anyways, So any new scenarios anyones found really interesting? and exciting?  Came back from being around 2 years ago and sadly came to find out www.truesite4blades.com no longer functions to connect at all. Any Ideas where to be able to find the entire scenario archive?

And I can't find a version that works for Vista. text fails to load in etc. I need the 2013 build but its link no longer functions?

Thanks for shedding some light onto this. E-mailing every artist will not be a realistic job but I've looked up on that GPU GPL license, and it seems I'm indeed free to use and distribute OBOE. I've also gotten better at pixel-art and could soon be able to make my own graphics.

Hey, Could your "engine" be of any interest of a game? Like to test out?
