Ack, I agree with you both already, and I'm only a couple hours into A6. Bummer!
I'm not finding myself drawn into the world like I was with A:EftP. That world lived and breathed and was so detailed with, as you both say, a gorgeously detailed map. A6... not so much. I don't mind so much the older engine style, it's just the story isn't drawing me in. I think I'll very much want to see the war with the Empire play out in A2 after completing A:EftP, so I think I'll give Avernum a break and wait.
Hey, it was only $5 on steam and if it helps Jeff complete A2 with the new engine (and maybe some Geneforges...
) then I'm ok with it.Might go start on Avadon 2 instead, I've still got a week and half of holiday to go!

Well it's a good thing I get lengthy holidays over christmas because WOW, this game just sucked up 60 odd hours worth of my life.
I've always loved Spiderweb games, my favourite was always Geneforge 5 UNTIL today. Thanks Jeff for making a phenomenal story.
I was ever so tempted to start again with a duo or solo, but I think I'd better have a break.
After completing all 3 main quests and basically every other quest execpt the ale/wine/fang ones plus going back for every level 3 barrier I feel like I know Avernum a little too well. I can only wonder how Jeff's dreams aren't filled with Avernum tilesets every single bloody night

Next to play is Avadon 2 and Avernum 6... any suggestions on which first?
I never completed Avadon, I got tired trying to kill Redbeard. 30-40 minutes in and I'd had enough, still have the save from before the fight but I honestly just don't want to do that fight again so I'll just have to imagine I won

I loved the way Jeff wrote the story for Avadon though, you honestly felt like an above the law bad arse - even if you were always working for good.
On the other hand... I'm well and truly addicted to the Avernum story line now. I've only ever played A:EftP in this set and while I don't think I'll play the first 5, but I want to see how he's ended the whole series. Bugger, well I think I sold myself, off to go buy A6.
<Pointless delerious ramble after mammoth gaming session over>
Hmm, I hope he remakes some of the older Geneforge games with this new engine so I can give them a shot (only played Geneforge 5 so far).

Wow, where did those 60 hours go?!
in Avernum Trilogy (2011-2018 remake versions)

Yeah, the character creation/leveling up process is certainly different. It's sort of ironic, being an older gamer (I guess if you count 34 old) who started back with the XT and 386, I always thought of myself as a more hardcore type gamer in that I don't mind complexity.
I think what's actually happened is that, my nostalgic brain desires complexity and spreadsheets and hand drawn maps and all that jazz. But my, somewhere-along-the-line developed lazy brain says; "bugger that". *shrug*
