Tenderfoot Thahd (2/17)

  1. Hello folks. As I was genuinely bored yesterday, and after discovering that Steam apparently lets you write guides nowadays, I kinda started an Avadon 2 achievement/whatever guide. I did it mostly because I wanted to see how it works, but I found it weirdly fun and easy. Nothing extraordinary so far, but heh, if it can help a few people. Since I can appoint contributors (though I have no idea how it works as of now), I was thinking that perhaps, some people here would like to contribute, or upload the guides they wrote here onto Steam. If that's the case, send me a PM here or hit me up on Steam (account's name is meneldhil). Boss fights, achievements, whatever you feel up to. I'm obviously not trying to belittle, or even to replace, the work done here. I just find that Steam allows for easy formating and uploading, as well as being just a few buttons away for anyone who bought the game there. The actual guide is here.
  2. What do you gain by clearing the tower? A token of honor? I'm almost done with the game (I'm looking for Miranda in the core), but I didn't get any of those.
  3. To be honest, I bought Avadon: TBF for 2€ or so, during a sale on Steam. I've always been curious about the game, but would probably not have picked it up without the sale (especially since I have Arcanum on GoG and Eschalon books 1&2 on Steam). Since I liked it, I bought Avadon: TC for 8€ on Steam. And since I like this one too, I'll buy A: EftP at full price on Spiderweb's website. Hopefully, it will be "registrable" on Steam. I probably won't buy all future Spiderweb games at that price, but I consider it a "reward" for keeping me entertained for 80 hours or so, so far, for a mere 10€.
  4. No, just no. No more trash mobs. Remember when I said Well, I was wrong. The amount of trash mobs was bearable. For a while. When they were easy to dispose of. That was until early level 10s. No, I'm at level 25 or so. Every goddam pack of something-bats is such a pain. Any single trash takes me 3 rounds to kill. Named monsters? More like 10 or 15. And I don't know what's worse: the fact that some monsters are so freaking lame that I spam left-click for 5 minutes, or the fact that some monsters are so powerful that I have to use potions to make my way through a bunch of rats, or am forced to take the shaman dude so I can survive more than 5 rounds. I'm at the point where I'm considering skipping some optional quests altogether, just because I can't be arsed to spend litteraly one hour fighting trash and more trash. Mind you, I'm playing on normal. And I think my team is pretty well optimized, and as high level as it could get given that I've explored everything and completed every quest so far. Still, in a couple hours, my average damage output has been halved, while it feels like the mobs' hitpoints have gotten a 200% boost. I'm all for tactical fights, and have to admit that (most) boss battles are pretty interesting. But the rest? Meh, I could do without. The sad part is, I actually think all of those fights were added to artificially increase the game's lenght. Well, that wasn't needed. I'd rather read more stuff about Lynaeus than get bored by fighting wave after wave of trash. I'd even rather play a significantly shorter game. I couldn't care less if Avadon II lasted 25 hours instead of 40.
  5. So, I've just started Avadon II (just got the first clues medal), and honestly, I think it's a step up from Avadon I (which I already liked quite a lot). Good point #1: trash mobs. They are not as many as there used to be. Still slightly too much for my tast, but at least this time it's bearable. I can explore a map without stopping every five seconds. Good point #2: the progression seems less "gamey". I really wasn't fond of the "Go to Wyrdlrym, unlock a new zone, do quests, go back to Avadon, go to the Kva, unlock a new zone do quest, go back to Avadon, rinse and repeat". I'm still in the contested lands, and I feel the history is not nearly as artificial as it was in Avadon I. Good (and slightly less good) point #3: the new class is fun, albeit quite overpowered if you ask me. Turrets that can hit for 80 at level 10 means I've pretty much facerolled my way to victory in mob/boss fight I've encountered so far. I'm sure an optimized group with two tinker mages is the be way to finish the game in Torment.
  6. Am I like, supposed to kill his puppets? Cause, on hard, with a level 20 party, that's just effing impossible. He heals them too quickly for my guys to kill them, and I'm not even talking about the 5000 heals but about the 300 ones. Nathalie keeps dying (obviously, there's no way I can prevent the zombies + the puppets from hitting her every once in a while), you get bogged down surrounded by three dudes when the pylons start glowing, meaning you can't escape anyway, even if you keep fighting in the middle of the room and move as soon as they glow. When I run out of resurrection scrolls for Nathalie, the ninja dude dies after a while, slowly followed by my blademaster, after like ten minutes of dodging 5 dudes. Each time I keep fighting, thinking "well, maybe after a couple more turns he'll give up". But now, he doesn't. 15 minutes for each try, and I don't see any improvement. Playing on hard for my first playthrough, I never had a problem before. I got killed by the Blue dragon cause I didn't know I wasn't supposed to attack her, and died like twice in regular battles. But here, after 45 minutes, I feel like there's no way to win this. Other than going back and taking the bladmaster character to have three melees, dodging and self-healing dudes. The fight feels completely out of place, given the average difficulty of the game. And I really don't have fun when my tanking blademaster is the only one alive, and can't act for 35 seconds because of hasted enemy team + confusion pylons. If they weren't endless waves of living bones or whatever, or a fourth playable character, at least the fight could be manageable. Here, it just feels like a huge mess.
  7. Hello, first timer here. I've just registered to ask: how did you come to know that? I'm currently playing Avadon I, and I mostly skiped onto agility (except for the Shadowstalker dude), until I read it was pretty OP, making you dodge all the time and what not. Except... it's not written anywhere in the tolltip. Nor is it written that this spell is modified by intelligence and this one by dexterity, or that endurance helps against this or that, while dexterity helps against this or that. Had I known that, I'd have min maxed a whole lot better.
