Geneforge 2 Trainer

Recommended Posts

I've been playing around with the hex values the game stores in memory, and created a nice little trainer for Geneforge 2.

It runs in the background, and creates a nifty little system tray icon of a Geneforge canister exploding wink

Simply load the trainer, then load your game. At any time during the game, press alt + tab to to switch to the trainer. Choose the hacks you wish to use, then return to the game.

Hope you enjoy my little creation cool

Yes, it's tested. I was manually modifying the hex values during the evaluation period on the game, loading/saving multiple games to make sure I wasn't corrupting anything. The game saves actually revert to their correct values when you load from a previous savepoint, if you don't activate the trainer. The upgrades you make and the items you buy stay with you, though.

After registering the software, I carried the values into a less complex trainer that I have been using for about a week without problems. This one has been in testing now for 3 days, and no problems have arisen yet. It may not sound like a lot, but I spend many hours on it everyday. This will not harm your saves in any way.

I'm working on adding an experience hack, along with hacks for your creations. I have found the addresses that control your Shaper's experience (I advanced 26 levels in about 20 minutes), and I'm testing the trainer to see if it's able to handle it. I'll post here any updates I create.

Have fun, and let me know what you think smile

:EDIT: By the way... if you're worried about your saves, you can make backups of the 'Data' folder to restore at a later point. It won't be necessary to do so, but it should provide a little assurance.

Also, since I know how hard it is to trust someone with only 3 posts, I'm leaving a picture of my in-game stats to show that they actually work. I don't want anyone thinking I'm posting harmful applications. I hate noobs who do that, and I certainly don't want to be under suspicion, so here ya go...

Very nice. Different approach. The only problem is, there are soooooooo many screens to go through to max your character out. With mine, once I add the experience modifier, you will be able to go into the stats screen, and click the 'plus' signs next to each level, and max them all out at one time. I'll browse through this and see if I can incorporate the spell/creation hacks into my trainer. I just find mine MUCH easier and faster to use. Thanks for submitting that though! wink

.::UPDATE::.

I have now discovered the values for Experience levels for both the Shaper and all 7 Creations. Unfortunately, the game freaks out if I use any value higher than 65,500 so beyond that will have to be earned. To compensate, I have forced maximum creation skill points to allow you to build your creations up to their full potential. It should make things much easier, though. I'm currently testing it out. I have 7 Ur-Drakons in my party (yes, my trainer makes that possible wink ) and they all are lvl 66 as soon as they are created.

I'm now working on ways to freeze health levels (basically giving a God-mode), unlock spells and creations, and complete quests/clear levels. I will do some further testing on this before I update the release.

The process for the old one was rather tedious though it could also modify the stuff done-like canisters and quests.

This sounds much better even w/o all that. However for GF1 there also is an item editor, would you be interested in iincluding somthing like that with this trainer? Since you don't have to worry about the nodes limitations it would be much more convenient. I believe that the items in your inventory are also set in the same place as the exp and such.

Sorry about that, Slasher. When I uploaded the update, I neglected to rename the file to match the previous version. The link should work now.

As for the item modifier, etc, I'm looking into that and other possibilities. There's a lot of hex to sort through, and a lot of experimenting to find what values control what. I'll continue to work on it, and post the updates here. I have a feeling that your inventory is somehow stored in memory using the same method as your character stats. If that's the case, I'll include a sub-module that will allow you to add any item to your "backpack" with just a click of a button. How nice would it be to start the game with the best gear? wink

Please let me know what you think of the trainer once you have tried it out. Any feedback is appreciated smile

First impression. Buggy- not as in it deleted my save files but as in the trainer allowed me one or more less skill points for each skill. For strength it gave me 33 Dexterity 32 Intelligence 30- By the time I got to luck I only got 9 points in it. Kinda silly and I don't see why this would happen but just the impression. This only made me close the improve stats window and open it again where I could improve luck to 18 (ie +9 once more) but still it was funny and I just wanted to point it out. The way for the other one was that you just typed in # sequences which can done rather fast. Once more though this far outstrips the mod of Croikles editor.

Does anyone here know who Croikle was? Was/is he a part of this community?

Ya, I know what you're talking about. Strangely enough, though, I earned those skill levels without the help of any trainer or hack, and it still behaved the same way. It's something in the game itself. Please let me know if you experience any other problems though.

Thanks,

:EDIT: I've looked further into it, and found a way around the problem. It appears it's an error in the game itself, almost as if you're not expected to reach the max in all stats. When I run the fixed mod, however, the game tends to freak out and the stats bounce from max to zero and back again. It's strange. Also, if you exceed the max by manually adding points to it, when you leave the screen and return to it, the points revert back to their max value. This is certainly a strange problem to have.

Yea, the game is designed to disallow adjustments once you hit "x" number of stat increases. My trainer fools the game by resetting those counters when you re-enter the stat screen.

Well, I think I'll let everyone play around with this for a while, and I'll go to work on the Avernum series. I'm sure they're all alike, so you should see similar trainers popping up soon for those games smile

Basically, yes, it could be considered a character editor. It gives you unlimited Skill Points to max out your stats, unlimited gold, unlimited Essence to build a massive Creation army, unlimited health, and insane amounts of experience. You have full control over what modifications are made. More features are in the works, including Skill Level modifiers, and item modifiers. Once the bugs are worked out, I'll release a new update.

Enjoy wink

Another thing you can do with this kind of editor (since you still seem interested) is the quest change thing. I know I enjoyed being able to select any ending w/o doing all the playing was enjoyable. Also one status thing that would be nice to have would be the canister use one. It changes a lot of the game. Also a word of caution. I don't know what kind of rxn you would get to editors for the Exile or Avernum series. If it was able to give say the Orb of Thralni in E1 or 2 (how I know is I transfered a save file from my register version to an unregistered version and could fly to and fro across the Shareware Chasm) then it would not be nessacary to register the game to play. I don't think that this is somthing to promote on this site. But other than that it sounds great

While I'm sure that such a mod would be helpful to others, it is one I'm not willing to do. As a game designer myself, I know how much work is involved in producing a game, and I wouldn't want to rob Spiderweb of their chance to make a sale. If everyone could download the demo but play like a registered copy, the designers wouldn't make a profit for their hard work.

In any case, I'm working on new trainers in the following order:

- Blades of Avernum

- Avernum 3

- Avernum 2

- Avernum

It seems a little odd to work backwards like that, but I'm sure the latest games are the ones people are most interested in, so they will be my focus. I'll post the trainers in their proper location in the forums, but I'll provide links here. Keep watching smile

The Mac version and Windows version of the game are two different programs, and the way they operate is not the same. This trainer modifies certain values stored in memory, and is exclusive to Windows 95 and above. Unfortunately, there is no way for me to construct a Mac version for you, as I operate only on Windows. Maybe this will inspire someone to make this a project of theirs? Either way, good luck. I hope you find one that works for you.

Sneak preview of Blades of Avernum Trainer

prev1.jpg

Here's a sneak peek of the newest trainer I've been working on. It's still unfinished, as you can tell from the preview, but it is working. There are a few bugs that I may not be able to do anything about, though. The game's intelligence seems to have evolved, and it recognizes that my trainer modified it. It resets all stats once it realizes something has changed, but I have modified the trainer to battle against it and lock the stats in place.

I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.

I do. laugh I was just passing through and happened to see this, with a stroke of luck. I was active earlier, when I had lots of free time to play RPGs, but unfortunately academics has gotten in the way. It's nice to see that people still remember me from however many years ago as the one who started all this. If I had gotten into GF2 more I might have made an editor (after all, most of the work was already done), but making the first editor kind of spoiled the fun of the story, since I had to look at a lot of the scripts to learn all of the information. Still, it was fun to make, since I had to discover the format of the scripts just from looking at examples and seeing how they worked in the game.

This looks like an interesting idea for an editor, though it has the possibility to really screw up your game (and it's only for Windows). There's a lot more you can do when you're editing the memory than when you're just doing what the scenario can do. Neat project!

Ya, memory editors such as mine can be very powerful and virtually limitless in their modification capabilities. Rest assured, I was very specific concerning which values were edited, which were frozen, and which were left alone. I wouldn't release an unsafe product. I'll get a little more advanced with the next wave of trainers, once I learn what data the games pump into memory.

A little off-topic: If anyone out there plays Gunbound, I created a neat little trainer for the Indo version. I'd be happy to post a copy if anyone is interested.

Umm. Maybe I'm missing something, but beyond the entire "god mode" part, why? BOA comes with a editor when you register it. If you are going to reply because unregistered people can use it, well unregistered people cannot use any scenario beyond VODT. So, why???

May I take this moment to ask, yet again, WHY THE BLOODY HELL IS VAHNATAI HARD FOR YOU TO SPELL? VAH-NA-TAI. IT'S VERY SIMPLE, YET SOMEHOW IT GOES OVER YOUR HEAD. VAHNATAI. VAHNATAI. V-A-H-N-A-T-A-I. NOT VAHANTI, NOT VAHANATAI, NOT VANHANTI, BUT VAHNATAI.

Sorry. It just pains my eyes greatly to see this.

WOW!

woah!

Well it is a little bit long and it's not a word that I use very much. But I was very aware that I was mispelling at the time as well. And if you can't remember how to pronounce it even the chances of figuring out how to spell it are almost nil. Hrmph maybe I won't be so lazy next time about it but isn't that a little bit of an overreaction? :p

Have you never mispelled it?

Edit: In further explanation I always remember it as more complicated than that but..., hmm vahnatai, vahnatai, now I want to sing a triumphant song about being able to spell it.
