Scenarios currently being worked on

Recommended Posts

Hey

How many people are making scenarios at the moment. If you are, could you maybe write little info about it and what we can expect in it. Maybe even the rough date of when it might come out.

I'm working on one myself. It will be called "Deception"

You are a thief. You have to venture in the scenario trying to find quests to complete and "Jobs" to do.

It's not a Linear Game and it doesn't really have a Linear Story Line.

At the moment I'm working on the first dungeon of the game and touching up the scripts.

Hopefully it will be out by the end of this year but I'm not to certain.

Well if anyone else would like to talk about their scenario please go ahead. :-)

I'm working on one. It will be called 'Undead valley', and your main aim is to travel through a valley full of undead, fight in two towers, and several other towns, and reach the end so that you can warn the Empire, Or Avernum, for help. I should have it out within the month. I've been working on it nearly non-stop since I got the editor a week ago, and the game just before. You will need a high level party with at least one priest in it -> or you won't live...

Well, I'm struggling with one I like to call "Troubled Transit", at least for the moment. It's based on the peace between Avernum and the Empire post-A3, and the people of Avernum's return to the surface.

Nothing fancy, you won't be saving the world or anything. Some traditional "kill the baddies" and "find the whatsit" quests as well as some prejudiced avernite-hating empire npcs and a weirdo religion for the temples.

Working on a scenario about a volcano that the empire has tamed using magic and engineering so they can mine it for iron and gems and stuff. Then a nasty demon decides to live their and starts messing around with the the empires carefully balanced spells/construction for his own purposes. I dont really like just linear quests so I have added alot of extra "fluff" I have all the "friendly" towns done and am working on completing the last 9 quests/dungeons or so. Hopefully I will have a beta of some type out by mid july.

I'm working on one called "The Cat Burglar" (unless I come up with a neat idea for a title before I finish it). A highly powerful and illegal magic item has been stolen and it's your job to hunt down the nephil bandit who stole it before he wreaks havoc on the surrounding towns.

It'll be a while coming, though. I'm nearing completion of the first town and just starting to get comfortable with scripts and special encounters.

I made a similar enquiry a couple of weeks ago (see the thread "A Modest Proposal" on this board) and met with a lot of resistance to the idea of teaming up. There are a lot of reasons why collaborations usually won't work for this sort of project.

But having said that, Prophet_of_Doom and I are getting one off the ground as we speak. Er, type. You know.

As-yet unnamed, a murder mystery ... with a twist. But it'll be a while yet.

I have had plenty of ideas like one about a minoitur and its maze, but that's way to much of a rip off, then i had a great idea for one that was going to be a avernum plague out break from a tunnel they mined into but i just lost interest and messed up the outside map frown . Now im thinking about a simple beat your way through a dessert before i move on to my master plane....no i can not talk about it, its for the contest and its a secret (ok i really have no idea what im doing with scripting, im a new at it, and i may not have it done in time...........

My first project for BoA will be a huge, massive, epic-sized, grandiose, umm, thingy, that will be at least five times the size of AC3 and will feature a world filled with thousands of npc's, each so detailed and fleshed out that you can spend hours just speaking to each one.

The capital city alone will take up about 20 64x64 towns and make Zenith look like a small rural village.

I have discovered a way to beat the 200 town limit, so I can have close to 500 towns and dungeons and I have already begun to redesign ALL the graphics for the game.

The main goal will be to search the world, looking for a main quest. You will have to be extremely thorough and explore every nook and cranny in order to find it. But once you do, things will REALLY get good.

I expect to have it finished, sometime in September of 2008. Anyone interested in beta testing, let me know.

I'm planning a quite strange scenario called "Dread Diseased". The name comes from the Article "10 Dread Diseases" by The Creator and the scenario is simply a example of everything a scerario shouldn't be. In other words, I'm trying to make the very worst scenario ever - based upon this list of diseases (which will all be in the scenario) and doing the complete opposite to all advices I've ever read. So my ambition is to create something that people can look at and say: "Learn from this, my friend, this is terribly bad."

I truly am pathetic, am I not?

I will try to create it with the unregistred version, since disease 6: Delusions of Grandeur requires that. The question is if it will be playable (as I can never test it with the unregistred version). Maybe I'll have to register after all...

You'll have a hard time making one that's better than Kelandon's, but I suppose people can't be dissuaded from these things and it's good scripting experience anyway.

I'm currently working on something. It uses only custom graphics... nothing that came with the game. Needless to say, making those graphics is taking the longest time (tho that will probably change when I get further into the story and such).

I was going to suggest getting used to my "style", but I have no idea where any of my BOE scenarios ended up. Or what name they might be under...

Please don't. I'm quite sure one thing we won't need is more bad scenarios. :p

I'd like to throw my balls in to point out that *trying to make the worst scenario* will fail, miseraly.
*sigh* Guess you're right. Nothing beats the naturally bad scenarios (I still wonder what that lost_king trilogy is... ) . And who would play it anyway? I still think it can be done though, as some kind of parody maybe, so you won't get rid of it that easily :p .

It is rather astonishing how scenarios manage to survive. If people remember NK0P, they'll remember anything.

After seeing more of Max Power's posts, I have to think that if anyone can make a collaboration work, MP can. However, that's still an if.

As for the initial topic of this thread, I (obviously) have a scenario that I'm working on under the name The Slith Homeland (although that is subject to change). The premise is, well, the sliths are trying to get to their homeland through Lost Bahssikava. I have about nine towns almost done right now, and I'm not sure how much more there will be -- this scenario could go on for another twenty towns or just another one or two, depending on how I sketch out the rest of the plot.

Having sort of lost Internet access temporarily (I'm stealing a friend's dial-up connection to post this) has allowed me to concentrate more on designing, so hopefully this scenario will be done before the month is over, but who knows.

And I'm intending to do a slight revision of the HLPM to include some trial combats, to make the shops more obvious about what they're selling, and to incorporate users' feedback. That is, once I get some users' feedback. :p I'm looking to find out how well it serves its main purpose right now, which is to make parties for ZKR and DWtD.

EDIT: And if you wonder about the lost_king trilogy, check out the Lyceum's CSR. Look at the lowest rated scenarios. The lost_king trilogy is in there.

Which scenarios would these be?
That's the problem. I, personally, no longer hold copies. And I think they were deleted from the internet years ago. I wasn't a member of the forums back then (I just spied), so I can't tell you what monikers they might be under. Probably for the better, seeing as how bad they most likely were. I was proud of 2/6. They usually dealt with a satanic cult called the "People of Set", who tried various schemes to bring their god, Set, back to the world and kill all the infidels. So the names of the scenarios had tendencies to be along those lines. I can't quite recall some examples... I'll try to find some records of them somewhere.

Anyway, I suggest trying my style as it seemed a bit different than most, with the way I developed characters. It would seem that most people (no one) has played them, so perhaps someone would like to try them out to tell me if I should even bother or not. I recall a moniker, "Izod". So try looking for that.

If Jeff really isn't joking about that scenario then I'm gonna...be very...surprised. And I will definately not check the spelling mistakes in it :p

I am currently working on a scenario that's pretty short, hoping to release it somewhat soon, depending on how long it takes me to figure out how to get the dialog working.

No one in their right mind would plan to design such a scenario!

Rest assured, AC3 is the biggest game I will ever make. And it has close to 140 towns and dungeons!

Although...

My initial post isn't that far from the truth. I'll just say that my next project will be something very close to what I described. It just won't be contained in one game.

Hey! I'm thinking about doing one. First time, though. . . But I already have a title (yippey!) "A Dance in Chaos: Livestock Insurrection" It's about Livestock lycanthropes, you know, werechickens, werepigs, werecows, etc. If all goes well it's going to be the first part of a series, which will include, beholders (not eye beasts), clones, planes, gods and, of course, necromancers. If all goes well. . .

Hopefully the first one will be ready in a couple of months.

I had a question:

Is it okay if the scenario takes place in a world other than the one of Avernum? Or is there some unwritten rule that scenarios should be part of that world?

I'm glad too see so many people interested in making scenarios fro BoA. It seems I need to download and register a copy of BoE since there are some many over there.

Cheers!

Since many (if not most, even) scenarios in BoE take place outside the Exile world, I think you're pretty safe making a BoA scenario outside the Avernum world. (EDIT: As Thuryl said, posting just before me.)

BoE is a great buy. There are a sizable number of great scenarios. Anything rated 8.0 or better on the Lyceum is pretty darn good, and anything over 9.0 is awesome. And new ones are coming out all the time!

I know that people are making some test scenarios which they do not want to release under their name. However, there are very few scenarios out there. Would there be a way to release some of the initial scenarios anonymously so we can play them without the persons first try being embarrassing. Like the last one. Just a thought.
