Avernum EftP Very Unhappy (spoilers)

Recommended Posts

Endgame spoiler so leave now if you haven’t played it!   I went into the Spire with 4 brooches not realizing I was on a suicide mission.  My “reserve save” back in the caves got taken out by a damn auto save so I have no way of restoring a pre-spire save to get the 5th brooch.  I’m on an iPad.  So the game is over for me.  I don’t suppose there is an inventory hack option???  I’m very unhappy.  I have 4 characters and figured I wouldn’t need the damn 5th brooch!  Ugh.

So cheating to go back for brooch #5 doesn’t work.  There is no way to get back to Spire.  This really sucks.  Any ideas?

It has been a while since I played, but you can do the back to start and reset boats cheats and then get where you need to go?  On the Mac version of the game, the autosave file is in a separate slot from the rest of the saves.

It's been a while for me too but autosave should be in a different slot than the saves that you do yourself (Windows version).  You should still be able to use your pre-Spire save.

That gets me back but it doesn’t satisfy the quest or give me the 1 of 3 credit.  I can’t get back to Spire to pass through the portal and get credit for the kill.  I don’t criticize Jeff often but that was BS.  80+ hours to have it end that way?  Come on...

I mean, you were given a warning in advance that using only 4 brooches might be a problem. What exactly is the obstacle to you getting back to Spire, though?

The right sdf codes could fix that.  No, I don't know what they are.

I guess this is a lesson that when the most powerful wizard in Avernum gives you a warning, you take her seriously.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I was fortunate that I had a save from prior to going into Spire, though I actually just restarted the game entirely after 2-3 years of letting it sit (and beating Crystal Souls). I'd suggest doing the same if you don't have a saved game from before going through the portal.
