Chabon quest bug? (Minor early game spoiler)

What a game. Having so much fun, but ran into a bit of a problem.

 

I'm at the Avadon dungeon, and encountered Chabon trying to escape. I killed him. The description dialogue said something like 'Chabon simply disappeared without any trace. Weird'

Now, Chabon is gone, I talk to Eye Mamora and he keeps telling me to go and see what the disturbance is about. I think this quest is effectively shut out for me.

 

Perhaps it has something to do with slaying Chabon, when he is not supposed to die?

 

I'm hoping this quest is not too significant.

Yeah, the game doesn't really expect you to kill him at this point. Can you go any further into the dungeon yet? Maybe he'll show up again. If not, try again a bit later in the game.

It's a scripted quest so Chabon should show up later in the game.

Yeah... I kinda figured he wasn't supposed to be killed, but I just couldn't resist the temptation to unhinge the game's design and its expectations... I have to break it!!!

Usually when I do that, I just reload the segment and proceed as it was supposed to be, but this time I forgot to save the game. Oh well.

 

And yes I can go down into the dungeon, but the gate is barred. I'll try to come back later, and hopefully, he'll show up like Randomizer said.
